solentstars Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 I don't see an improvement in that department at all. He's always had a great touch and upper body strength. He's upped his workrate, but for me the main difference is that he now has the confidence to really take his time and when he does he hasn't got fans on his back moaning at him for holding on to the the ball for too long. I agree and he had some good games but unfortunately when you get that lynch mob pick on certain players it don't matter how you play. skintsaint Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Playing out of his skin at the moment, probably no surprise with his contract up this summer...maybe a coincidence, but can seem him going somewhere else for a free . Think he won't be with us next season unfortunately...even though he says he is real happy here on that Sun link.
Chez Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 he is a great player...good skils..great touch and passing and retains the ball very well....works very well with clyne and covers for him... hope we sign him up on another contract...maybe he was challenged to earn it.... to buy him on this form would cost a small fortune....so like a new signing for us no nagging thoughts that it might all go tits up? Greenridge Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Somewhere along the line I think Puncheon has had a moment of realisation that his stop-start career is maybe down to him and for whatever reason he's decided to really knuckle down. Long may it continue, he's certainly gone up in my estimation. Even at the Norwich game where it didn't go as well for him he never stopped trying. I'm a convert. doggface Posted 9 December, 2012 Share Posted 9 December, 2012 Just watched the 2nd half back and he and clyne were pretty much unplayable. Never thought he would turn it round to this extent in a million years. Get him signed up ASAP, fwiw I think we will.

david in sweden Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Good to see a player respond to some " humane handling ". Somewhat reminiscent of Lawrie Mac's manner of dealing with Mark Dennis who no-one would touch with a barge pole. (he was the Joey Barton of his day)..but later developed into a LB worthy of consideration for England squad (of his day) Puncheon seems a totally different individual to the "spoilt brat " we had to loan out for the last year or two.. well done Jason..and well done NC /NA for giving him a second chance. A lot of managers might have shipped him out ASAP.

Bearsy Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 (edited) Obviously wants his new contract, proper licking Cortese's arse in the old current bun this morning! "Listen bruv, Mr. Cortese is the most honourable man in football. His word is his bond, bruv. When Mr. Cortese says you'll be prem in 5 years, you'll be prem in 5 years. In fact, cos Mr. Cortese is so awesome you'll be prem in 3! Also, he's a lot taller than you'd think, bruv. I'd say he's definitely at least average height. Maybe a bit more than average!" So why are you worried? What good will worrying do, when this is something you can do nothing about. What would you do differently? If he is going to do a Saga, then there is no way of knowing until after the event. Control the controllables, quit worrying and have some fun. dubai_phil Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2245580/Jason-Puncheon-favour-Southampton.html Blimey TWO articles in the Snail in one day about Saints. Good one here about the row with NC....
Window Cleaner Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 don't think his agent is Finnigan nowadays so negociations might be a tad less truculent. Perhaps he doesn't have an agent at all, couple of our other players just have a law firm that represents them for virtually everything.
Saint 76er Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 or he might not...?......been excellent and to buy a player with his skill right now would cost £7-10m Yes, but Punch's market value will likely never be higher than right now and it may be that he could be used as part of a deal in January. As an inducement to Fulham for Hangeland for example, or some other club unwilling to part with a top player. Celtic for Hooper could be another example. Rumours seem to be swirling around the possibility of us signing a new winger in January, such us Lens or Phillips or the Korean guy at Bolton. If so, Punch could be available perhaps. Don't know how I would feel about that as Jason is simply outstanding at present and has really lifted the team and Clyne in particular. However, we all know of his previous when he gets to sign a new contract ...
Saint Charlie Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 No chance Puncheon will leave in January - he becomes even more vital now Lallana could be out for a while.
Minty Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 I actually think the contract situation will be fine... he has matured, Saints are in the Premier League, everyone is seemingly happy with how things are progressing, and whilst demands for money can never be discounted, I think Punch will realise now that being at a club where he is now wanted, and where he has developed good understanding with his teammates is worth a lot. I think he'll be offered, and will sign, a new contract without too much fuss
Saint-Armstrong Posted 10 December, 2012 Share Posted 10 December, 2012 Correct. Tony is no longer Jason's agent. In fact, Jason is currently operating without any agent whatsoever. I remember David Connolly mentioning he was just offered a deal one day, Cortese and Connolly and that was it. Paperwork signed and contract sorted.
