Reading attendance

Turkish

Recommended Posts

IN April we sold out for a friday night game that was live on telly. Reading also brought a full allocation of 3,200. THey haven't sold out their smaller allocation and we haven't sold out the home sections for a saturday 3pm kick off in the Premier League. I thought we were GUARENTEED to see bigger crowds in the Premier League? What is happening? Arguably this game is just as big as its a relegation six pointer, apathy seems to rule at the moment amoungst both sets of fans.

Had to get a Block 1 ticket for two together when ordering last week - it must be close to a sell-out surely?

Given what's said about Reading fans (I have no opinion on them) would we be expecting them to sell out with all those big shopping centres that they have nearby to compete at this time of year.?

Back in the old Premier League days we used to sell out all of our games weeks in advance AND get thousands paying on the day. Things just aren't the same any more.

was that in the days of dynamic pricing or didnt we need it back then?

If reading haven't sold how come they have been given extra tickets:

It wasn't needed. We also had thousands nay tens of thousands of fans who knew games had sold out and therefore didn't bother trying for tickets (except the thousands who bought on the day for all those games that were sold out weeks in advance).

The clue is in the article.

The club were given an initial allocation of 1753 tickets - but after high demand have taken on an extra 700 seats, taking the allocation up to 2,453.

So they still have a reduced allocation (they can and previously have had up to 3,200) and it hasn't sold out yet (hence tickets still being on sale).

and correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't this at a time when we had no investment or champions league ambtions?

You two really have a bee in your bonnet about this attendance lark. (Turkish/Kraken - though its pretty obvious who I'm referring to)

Probably, yes. I guess it stems from being told we were wrong so very often about it, when we were nothing of the sort. Tales of previously selling out weeks in advance for all our games (and somehow still selling thousands of tickets on the day) are now being proved as complete fabrication, and there (thankfully) seems to be a bit more reality surrounding our level of fanbase and attendance expectations.

As someone who reads more than posts, it is very tedious fella always having to read the same people recite the same sarcastic point scoring drivel. Sorry if that offends. (yeah yeah, I know, don't read it if you don't like it etc)

Yep, over and over again we were told how wrong we were. that we sold out every game easily and there were thousands of fans being turned away every week and thousands more who didn't bother trying as they knew games would be sold out. We were told endlessly how massive our catchment area was an how there were thousands of people in Cirencester, Truro, Trowbride and Lewes who would come to Southampton to see premier league football. We were told we needed a bigger stadium NOW and that there was going to be a made scramble for tickets week in week out. It doesn't seem to be quite working out how we were told it would.

He was one. Franks Cousin was another and of course Wes Ender, with his "of course we need a 50k stadium now and can easily fill it, didn't they say man would never walk on the moon" logic.

The ranks are swelling - an intimidating total of three (granted the odd straggler here and there).

Your shtick might work if you were actually in the minority on this subject. You're not.

Why didnt you make a thread about the attendances for the past few games?

Or do they not fit with your anti Saints agenda because they were sold out pretty much?

Anti Saints agenda!!!

They weren't sold out though were they. What's your point? I'm simply point out that exactly the same game attracted a bigger attendance when it was on a friday night and live on television and in a lower divison. We were promised attendances would go massively UP this season, it seems in this case they are actually going down.

What; such as the 30,501 against Swansea that didn't sell out? The 31,410 against Newcastle which didn't (quite) sell out? Or the 29,325 against Norwich which didn't sell out? Which one of those games would you have liked a thread about?

Sorry to repeat those figures but my anti-Saints agenda won't feed itself.

To be fair the last game was a championship decider more or less. Huge huge game. The biggest game of the season. The game coming up is not as big.

Shame we aren't selling out, but I'm afraid the bloody tickets are way overpriced for the more casual fan.

Could well have something to do with the insane pricing at prem games (35 quid for ticket for Reading with pretty much no discounts for kids/OAPs) and crap economy with Xmas just round the corner.

By way of comparison, I can go see a very successful MLB side (washington Nationals) with a good seat for as little as $8. And a terrible NBA side for as little as $2 (wizards).

Add to that, most games can now be streamed live and I would imagine paying attendances play only a small part in revenue generation for the club.

So what your saying is if a match is a few hundred under capacity then thats **** attendance and we should be worried?

Not sure if serious or just trolling?

Anyone know the official figure for season ticket sales?

I'm thinking that this might be the main issue. I thought they were a bit overpriced, and that the rise of renewal prices wasn't very fair.

Another thing I was looking at coming back from the Norwich game is the roulette in k.o. times that we have experienced this year, this could possibly put off some ST holders and who knows how many occasional match ticket buyers.

If I'm not mistaken, in 8 (?) home games, we've had the traditional Saturday 15h, Sunday 16h, Sunday lunchtime, Wednesday night, Sunday 15h...and we're yet to have late Saturday, Monday night and Saturday brunch time (a killer for all of us nightowls)!

In the FL, it was fairly standard: Saturday at 15h or Tuesday at 19h45. Yes, two or three times in 23 games you could get a Sunday lunchtime or a late Saturday, maybe a midweek fixture on another day than Tuesday, but it hardly changed that much. The matchday cost has also risen too and our city has not been watching the crisis pass by...

Guess some people can't be fussed to build their free time around SFC's matches. It's not like our attendances have been bad and to be fair the fact that we only broke the attendance record on the promotion game last year says a lot about the size of our regular support.
