*Halo* Posted 6 December, 2012 Share Posted 6 December, 2012 Ok, I don't normally get involved with this type of topic, and this will be my only post in it: Being that I know the young (fluent English speaking) Spanish/Catalan coach who has recently been employed by Saints to help Gaston with learning the language and settling in (he is also helping out with Paulo Gazzaniga in this respect too); I can confirm the following: Gaston Ramirez is "very happy here, and really enjoying being at Saints. He loves our style of play, is really enjoying his football here, and feels really welcomed. He loves the city too, and is looking forward to settling in to his new home and making a nice life here." Source: Gaston Ramirez.
Greenridge Posted 6 December, 2012 Share Posted 6 December, 2012 If he said all that then it doesn't sound like he needs any further help with his English Onwards and upwards for the young man, he has a great future ahead of him and I hope a decent chunk of that is with SFC. Source: Gaston Ramirez. Slight tangential thought.... Maybe this is why Gazza has got the goalkeeping nod ahead of Davis and Boruc, so that Ramirez has someone who can act as a translator on the pitch. Yes, I know that's all a bit far fetched but rather than toss a coin as to who goes in goal the manager might look for small advantages to tip the balance. Or maybe I'm thinking too hard this early on a Friday morning...

You forgot to add that the reason he went back to Uruguay was to collect his birthday cards and have a piece of birthday cake as the southampton bastardos didn't remember his b'day!! Wes Tender Posted 7 December, 2012 Share Posted 7 December, 2012 So now Sky sports are reporting that Fiorentina have expressed no interest in taking Ramirez, at least not at this stage.
DT Posted 7 December, 2012 Share Posted 7 December, 2012 All of which would have been prevented by someone explaining in a slightly larger detail why he was granted compassionate leave. Wouldn't have had to have been much. Just 'illness in family', or whatever. Step forward new communications man. Could have averted all this mongboard speculation/time needed by Adkins to clear things up.

Saint Charlie Posted 7 December, 2012 Share Posted 7 December, 2012 In what context did the story appear? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8315989/ Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has played down reports linking the club with Southampton's Gaston Ramirez, whilst admitting the player he would most like to sign is Gareth Bale. Fiorentina are keen to strengthen their squad in January and have been linked with a number of big names, including Ramirez, Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi and Giampaolo Pazzini of AC Milan. Whilst admitting he is an admirer of all these players, Prade doubts any of them will arrive when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year. "Rossi to Fiorentina? Giuseppe is strong but certain economic parameters are not within our reach," Prade told La Repubblica. "Gaston Ramirez? He's back as a non-EU player (meaning Fiorentina cannot take him this season). Anyway, we don't need a player with his characteristics now. Maybe in the future. "Pazzini? I think he's fine where he is but you never know. Giampaolo is a great player." Questioned on who he would most like to sign, Prade identified Bale but admitted it was an unrealistic ambition. "My biggest dream? Tottenham's Gareth Bale. He has good feet and physical strength. But it's just a dream."

Saint Charlie Posted 7 December, 2012 Share Posted 7 December, 2012 We are a paranoid bunch that's for sure We actually allowed him off on compassionate leave to negiotate a move to Penarol because he hates how Nigel always says "about ourselves" or "about himself" at the end of any sentence decribing something. ie "We have a paranoia about ourselves." Essruu Posted 7 December, 2012 Share Posted 7 December, 2012 It was a death in the family. Not that members of an internet mongboard need to even know that much[\b]. Which is why, on the 'Megastore signing substitution' thread, I just said 'personal reasons' instead of 'bereavement'. I was due to take some players and WAGs to London as a lot of the squad had planned a meal to celebrate Gastón's birthday. This was cancelled 20mins before we were set to leave, once the sad news came through. I was not about to blurt the reasons why, as it was a personal and private matter. I don't feel particularly comfortable even sharing this now and wouldn't had it not been for Nigel's 'compassionate leave' comments and a few people on here already confirming a bereavement. Some people know a lot more information than they are happy to share on here publically and those who have said the full information should've been disclosed so as to avoid speculation are wrong: this is a 22yr old lad, newly living in a foreign country who has lost a close relative - nothing gives you all the right to have to be informed of the full details of such a private matter, but in this age of instant information, too many people think it's their right. Rest assured: Gastón is back, attended training this afternoon, and will hopefully be fit and chosen to play tomorrow - AS NIGEL SAID/PREDICTED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. Can we move on now? Thanks for the information however you need to take forums with a pinch of salt. It is just human nature to want to know more and be nosey. Hardly think Ramirez or any other player for that matter will give a dam what is being speculated on a fans forum. When there is a chance our best player (arguably) will miss a crucial game then it is only natural for fans to get anxious and want to know what is happening. Once he moves out of the hotel and into his house, that'll be the final piece of the jigsaw.
