Ramirez rumours

Gaston is clearly class, but he was never going to just be able to come here and take the league by storm....not many foreigners are able to do that, especially ones who are 21!

I think we just have to appreciate how good he is. Yes he's going to give the ball away a bit because he tries to play those passes which are likely to get cut out. What would you rather, he passed it backwards and got a 100% completion rate, or an 85% completion rate and actually tries to play cutting through balls. I know what I'd rather.

Pretty much how to see Gaston, would much rather have him going forward and really pressing other teams (scaring them) than someone like Joe Allan with a much higher pass completion rate but doing nothing of note.

Plus £12m for a 21 year old is a lot, but at the same time represents our faith in him/the faith that we can make money on him. Much better buy than say £16m on Joe Allan...

Any truth behind the fiorentina interest ? There is no way he'd go in Jan right? :s

I read the interview in the paper concerned...he was "baited" by a journo ...and asked if he'd like to play for Fiorentina?

His obvious reply related to .....playing in a top Italian side.......I saw nothing implied that he ws unhappy at SFC .or wanted to move .

The journo got his headline, and it has become a " non-story " which may dog the tabloids every week in the future whenever things go quiet elsewhere.

That doesn't sound so good for the weekend

Always had my concerns when we signed him. I remember saying we'd be lucky to get 1/2 a season out of him. When he picked up an injury I thought we'd be lucky to see him again, fortunately I was proved wrong. However, if this is true then it doesn't inspire confidence. :-/

No, part of the reason they let Boruc go was because they couldn't afford to renew his contract.

Italian football, like the country at large, is in financial turmoil. If you look at the league as a whole there are few big transfers happening. The exception to this is transfers out, like the £50million-odd AC Milan got for Zlatan & Thiago in the summer.

Fiorentina have been skint for ages, they did a Rangers only a few years back. No way in hell will this happen.

He may leave, but it certainly will not be to Fiorentina for £20m.

I think you'll find that Fiorentina are the most profitable club in Italy with the fifth biggest income. Well, they were last year anyway. If there is one club in Italy that could potentially get him it's them.

I am led to believe Ramirez is very happy at #SaintsFC despite quotes to the contrary in the Italian media. Apparently journo duped him.

Ramirez's availability for #SaintsFC at weekend not so clear. Seems he has gone back to Uruguay. Adkins will explain absence on Thursday.

If Gaston doesn't play on Saturday, it will be my fault based on games I've been to:

1) Man Utd - bought these; Ramirez not signed in time to play but does pop out to give us a wave;

2) Fulham - injured before the game

3) Spurs - still injured

Got tickets for the game on Saturday and now he might be in Uruguay instead. Obviously he's far more important to our survival bid than me watching the game so I'll send back my tickets... :(

What exactly would you do if Ramirez isn't able to play?

play lallana in the hole...that system works very well....or even bring davis back in as an advanced forward midfielder...

but, taking your top scorer and moving him away from the goal is daft...and has not worked at all so far

Haven't read the rest of the thread, but no club in Italy is in any kind of decent financial situation at the moment and I doubt he'd leave to go anywhere which wasn't La Liga or a top 6 Prem club anyway.

This is sad news both for Saints and for Ramirez.

For the club to grant him leave of absence before such a crucial game I can only assume the ‘personal reasons’ must be fairly serious so let’s hope things turn out okay for him.

Even if he’s back for the match, having one of your key players sat on long haul flights and missing training is no good for anyone, except perhaps the opposition. I suppose it’s one of the drawbacks of signing continental players.

If Ramirez is absent on Saturday, I’d like to see Davis given a chance to play as an attacking midfielder in front of Spiderman and Cork

Having read that article, and noting Ramirez's praise of the way Fiorentina are playing at the moment, perhaps its time to speculate on their young Italian manager Vincenzo Montella, being our next boss.

Just as worthwhile speculation as selling Gaston to them.

For **** sake people have some respect, he's returned home for what as I understand, is a family bereavement.

Hard to understand I know but to most people life extends beyond football. Hopefully Gaston will do what he has gone to do in Uruguay and return in the near future.

who is showing him a lack of respect..?

No one has disrespected the man. Get back on your high horse and ride out of town.

He will be Roma manager next season, so no need to concern yourself with that.

i personally feel we are going to lose loads on Ramirez as he wasn't worth what we paid in the first place, some idiot on here claimed we would at least double are money on him. He's obviously got talent but for me he is just a trickster that flatters to deceive goes over way to easily does to much with it loses possession and nowhere near any end product

I've heard it all now. If you cannot see how quality a player Ramirez is then you have no place watching football.

cant believe some of thes comments, i think he is definately worth the 12million hes got class written all over him and for a number 10 playmaker also has the pace and tricks to beat players. gaston and lallana both look top 6 premier league material in my eyes,

if anybody is a waste of money its rodriguez hes had numerous chances and never brings anything to the team, mayukas done more in his 2 sub appearences then j rods done all season

He's gonna get better and better, the quality is there for most ;) to see. People should give him some time to settle in English football, it took Bergkamp a while but he wasn't a bad player in the end.

Absolutely. The guy is 21 years old, moving to a new country, in one of the hardest leagues to adapt to in the world, and he has done bloody well so far.

Would we get our money back if we were to sell him in the summer? Probably not.

Would we get our money back if we were to sell him in 2-3 years? I definitely think so, and much more.

To reiterate, he's 21 years old. He's not even close to being in his prime.
