Any truth behind the fiorentina interest ? There is no way he'd go in Jan right? :s

not overly fussed anyway, if we can get our money back there may be players available more suited to our immediate needs.

+1 Money could of been better spent elsewhere...like Michu, Curtis Davies, Bassong, Turner etc

My old man works with a couple of Uruguayan birds in Southampton. They have befriended Ramirez's bird and go out to dinner etc with them. He's said to them he loves it here and would like to stay even if we were relegated. That's just a conversation between friends, so doubt he would just be saying it for the sake of it.

Do Fiorentina even have enough money to make a £20m bid and increase the wages we're paying him?

Wow, you have just runied the possibilty of this getting to 10 pages of nonsense with that little bit of info :)

If only it was that simple.

As I haven't disclosed their full names, addresses, DOB, place of birth, current occupation, where they go for dinner with Ramirez, what their bra size is and what their favourite film of all time is, it will be dismissed by most.

Rubbish, wouldn't be the first (or last) footballer to be "loving it here" and then p*ss off 5 minutes later. Footballers are very simple beings in the main, being over the moon and sick as a parrot are just two stages in the wellbeing spectrum.

Still no doubt there's nothing sinister in any of it.

No, part of the reason they let Boruc go was because they couldn't afford to renew his contract.

Italian football, like the country at large, is in financial turmoil. If you look at the league as a whole there are few big transfers happening. The exception to this is transfers out, like the £50million-odd AC Milan got for Zlatan & Thiago in the summer.

Fiorentina have been skint for ages, they did a Rangers only a few years back. No way in hell will this happen.

He may leave, but it certainly will not be to Fiorentina for £20m.

Well at least put some photos up then

I always thought that Ramirez would go at the end of the season and that we'd make a tidy profit on him.

He's going to have to score twenty goals and play like Messi for the remainder of this season for us to make a "tidy profit" on him. It's not like we snapped him up for a couple of mil.

If a big club wants to buy an exciting attacker from a small club, they're better off going for someone like Michu who they could probably get for less than we paid for Gaston in the first place.

A profit on Ramires is way off in the distance.

Correct. We'll see how it pans out but at this precise moment in time we have overpaid for this kid - which is why no other club went near him over the summer. People are deluded if Gaston is some investment for the future, he was a gamble for now. Five years time he might blossom into a £20m megastar but he might not, right now, at best, both scenarios are equally likely.

IMO..he needs to improve to justify his price tag....he is not a £12m player at the mo.

its ok to turn it on at home when the away team is woeful..but when the game is tighter...he gives the ball away far too much and too easily

hopefully, he will learn quickly....

In fact there was a piece about Gaston in L'Equipe recently. They seem to think we paid 15 million € to Bologna and 3 million€ to Penarol for him. Says his annual salary is around 2.5 million euros. Anyway there's a quote from him in the piece that says no-one in Italy could afford him as there's no money.

he's certainly go the touch of a £12m player. Give him a bit more time and hopefully he'll show that he has the brain to go with it

i personally feel we are going to lose loads on Ramirez as he wasn't worth what we paid in the first place, some idiot on here claimed we would at least double are money on him. He's obviously got talent but for me he is just a trickster that flatters to deceive goes over way to easily does to much with it loses possession and nowhere near any end product

Not a fan then lol.

Personally I think he's destined for bigger and better things than (even) the mighty Saints.

he has bags of potential but he's not a 12 million pound player at the moment would you not agree?

Who would you buy with your £12m Mr. Sex?

I suppose selling him or not depends if we are preparing for life back in the championship or not....January will give us the answers

next 2 games will determine our fate. Win both and we'll probably Ok, win one and draw one touch and go, lose either and it's all over. We should be OK by now but we threw away 4 points because we have an untried rookie in goal, now our future probably depends on 2 crunch games.

Exactly. For the amount we've paid for him, we need him to make a difference in tight games, nick points and wins for us where we might not otherwise get them - he looks a fair way off doing that so far.

don't see that, Gaston isn't a real goal ace and if the chances that he creates aren't put away by others there's not much he can do about it, apart from going for goal himself and then as we've seen he often loses the ball. We need more efficiency in front of goal and for that we need to increase the ratio of chances converted by Lallana and Lambert.

it's ok it's a postive rumour so will be considered 100% true if you had posted Gaston hated it here you would need to provide full refrences of all your contacts:lol:

I didn't say he had to be a goal ace? Has he been creating tons of chances that Lallana and Lambert haven't been putting away? When the game has been tight and we've needed something out of nothing (which is what I thought he was all about), he hasn't come up with the goods so far. I can obviously see that lad's got a great touch and has plenty of potential, just right now we need more than that. I look at the signings of Ramirez, Rodrigues and Mayuka and think we've spent over £20m on attacking potential.

Whilst £12m is hard cash it's always incredibly hard to equate it to value when you you take in to account all the factors of a signing (need, other clubs, players age, position they play, blah blah). Is he a 5th as good as Torres? At the moment yes, is he a 3rd as good as Carroll, probably yes. Is he more than twice as good as Berbatov? No.

I think we should enjoy him whilst he's here as I don't think it will be forever.

When he played against Villa it seemed he was into one touch passing and moving the ball quickly. This along with a great touch in tight spaces made it seem like he would be perfect for us. However, apart from the flick on to Lallana against QPR, it seems like he has stopped doing this. Maybe he is trying too hard and trying to take players on? He seemed much more effective when he just tried to pass the ball quickly.

cant believe some of thes comments, i think he is definately worth the 12million hes got class written all over him and for a number 10 playmaker also has the pace and tricks to beat players. gaston and lallana both look top 6 premier league material in my eyes,

if anybody is a waste of money its rodriguez hes had numerous chances and never brings anything to the team, mayukas done more in his 2 sub appearences then j rods done all season

That's not exactly a Ramirez rumour tokyos. I heard rather than wash his underpants he just wipes them clean with vegetable oil.

Everything is taken out of context, it was a throw away comment. The Italian reporter asked if he'd ever conciser going back to Italy one day in his career, and he said it would interest him one day but he's focused on Southampton for the foreseeable.

So basically there were no rumours, they were created by the tabloids.

Gaston is clearly class, but he was never going to just be able to come here and take the league by storm....not many foreigners are able to do that, especially ones who are 21!

I think we just have to appreciate how good he is. Yes he's going to give the ball away a bit because he tries to play those passes which are likely to get cut out. What would you rather, he passed it backwards and got a 100% completion rate, or an 85% completion rate and actually tries to play cutting through balls. I know what I'd rather.

I would think the biggest problem any club will have buying him is the £12m they will have to pay up front. If we had to borrow to pay his fee, that will have to be paid back.
