Spending money I haven't got, on people I don't much like, buying things they don't need at a time of year you are constantly reminded of the people you have loved who are no longer with you, its dark its cold and it's pi**ing it down and everyone calls you a grumpy bastard because you aren't conforming to some fictional representation of what a happy famly chrismas must be in order for companies to maximise their profits.

Oooh Smirking i was gonna post that but i was worried bout getting mugged off by all the emo kids on here. I ****ing love Christmas! It's my most favourite time of the year! I love putting up my Christmas decorations and watching all my favourite Christmas movies and the Christmas TV specials and going to Christmas parties and hitting on sexy elves and getting presents and giving presents and singing the Christmas carols and wishing people merry christmas and stuff. I also like how people you don't normally see getting hammered get hammered cos it's Christmas!

Just love the time off, the drink, the food and it does break up the gloom and darkness of winter somewhat.

Will be out getting as much surf in as I can, going to cosy boozers in the eve, watching crap on telly etc.

Don't care about the presents really, enjoy giving them but usually end up with crap I don't need.

Same with me, I love crimbo, this year staying up here and not going back to Botley until well into January which is a shame but at the same time more time with family up here on the ale, Christmas tree is already up and the dog has mangled the snowman that changes colour every 3 seconds but I love it!

Yep, I have no problem at all with people liking Christmas , good luck to you and I hope you have a very happy time with the people you love.

A lot of people don't though, for many and varied reasons, doesn't mean we are Emos or weirdos

Thats true as well, dont force a good time on anyone.

I love it. I bloody love it. Time off, food, booze, happy people, all my old friends come back home for a few days, it's great. The only thing I don't like is the music. But I don't watch much telly and I'll do my shopping online, so hopefully I'll avoid the worst of that.

2 weeks off work, mainly on the p*ss, family, friends, good food

Versus

Sh*t weather, having to go shopping, extra traffic, and Xmas songs.

It's more than tolerable IMO, I'm looking forward to it. Some really good parties planned this year.

I hate it. The whole country shuts down for three weeks whilst the rest of the world carries on. No wonder we're in the doggy dos. As a manufacturing outfit we can't get anything made, delivered or shipped. Then we get Chinese New Year straight afterwards. Bah humbug. Until the last few years we have always had elderly relatives to stay with us but for the first time ever we are going on holiday over the entire Christmas period. It'll give my long-suffering mrs a complete rest from all the preparations and cooking. I'll be thinking of you all on Boxing Day and afterwards, paddling in the Caribbean on various islands. :)

There is always something magical about Christmas and it's great to have time off work and eat and drink with your family. But I can see why some people don't like it.

If you havn't got any money, have a disfunctional family or are on your own, Christmas must just be a depressing reminder of how sh!t life is compared to these sickly myths portrayed in advertising.

I like the time off from work, decent food and seeing family. What I don't like the compulsory crazy time everyone is supposed to have, how middle aged women and geeks at work tell you you are boring for not wanting to do things like secret Santa and if you don't want to go to the Christmas party. I also don't like buying people presents and feeling oblidged to do it so i don't do it. I feel sorry for these people that get themselves into debt every year because they feel they have to spend a fortune on presents for people, most of which wil be stuff they don't want and never use.

Christmas is the only time of the year where I genuinely wish I was a kid again. Staying awake all night reading MATCH annuals counting down each minute until 6am, when you were allowed in to "wake" the parents. Great times.

That's what we do. We have a cool Yule.

the majority of people in this country already do it anyway without realising.all the stuff that people have said they like came from the original pagan festivals.drinking, eating, partying, xmas trees, yule logs, celebrating on the 25th etc was already part of the winter festivities when christianity came along & decided to join in due to the whim of an early pope trying to gain more followers.

Which might lead one to wonder why you brought it up..?

I dislike Christmas due to being a bit short of money plus subtle pressure is applied to

both my wife and I to work. Also it is a reminder that the evenings will start drawing in and it

will get darker and then winter will be here.

An Australian - Mr K.Wilson sums it up quite well but he does use strong language in this video.

why did i bring up about the pagan stuff ? because the op asked what are you least looking forward to at xmas & my reply would be the church/christianity stuff to be honest.

Fair point :)

I find that Christmas/Xmas is pretty much what you make it. The religious aspect is fairly easy to avoid if you don't have family commitments in that direction.

I like Christmas. I used to love it, and perhaps when I have kids, I'll love it again, but at the moment it depends entirely on what shifts I'm working as to how good Christmas is. This year my shifts are favourable, so I am looking forward to the period. Next year my shifts suck, so Christmas likewise will probably suck.

Most people are a little bit cheerier around Christmas, and that's a plus working in customer service, but there are so many pro's and con's to it, you can see why people's experiences differ. I hate New Years Eve for example (as per SNOWY above), the most massively overrated and expensive night of the year. Christmas Eve though, it's tradition for my mates and I to go out and get stinking drunk (thus nearly ruining Christmas Day every year), but everyone is in a good mood that's out. I like that. I am determined to go easy this Christmas Eve though, last year I was so rotten on Christmas Day I couldn't eat my roast. And I LOVE my roasts.

instead of celebrating the birth of the baby jesus we could just celebrate all the pagan festivals that christianity piggy backed on.

I'm all for this idea actually, and I've been trying to convince my family and friends over the last few years that we should make an effort seeing as most people are off work for it anyway. I'm all in favour of sticking two fingers up to the Catholic Church and their over-inflated claims about a Jewish kid who (if he even existed) wasn't born in December, and reclaim the old pagan winter solstice festival to celebrate the returning of the sun and the start of longer days.

Excellent. Let's start with a spot of human sacrifice, shall we? That'll show the stupid Catholic Church. Now, if you could pop along and harvest some mistletoe, I'll go and make some over-inflated claims about how the summer coming round again in its season is because of my diligence in worship.

Or perhaps everyone could just enjoy some quality time with friends and close family because, after all, life is too short?

Exactly the same round my way (Hedge End/ Botley), Christmas eve brings out faces you never see anymore and is a class night. When I was working in London they thought this "tradition" was really quaint, I laughed in their trendy, too cool to have a laugh faces and picked up a 4 pack of Redstripe from a moody Shadwell corner shop for £4 and headed off to Waterloo at lunchtime with a spring in my step whilst they minced about in tanning salons and rolex shops. People I worked with from Newcastle/ Bristol etc had it the same as us in terms if catching up with old mates etc, Christmas Eve batters the s*** out of NYE every year for me. Christmas day is the only day where a hangover isn't a problem, a few beers at lunch and a huge roast see to that!

A few beers down the local on Christmas day whilst the women are sorting dinner is one of the few old school traditions left in this country. Women love it as I'm out their way, we show our appreciation by destroying whatever they've cooked immediately on arrival home.
