Liverpool post match interview comments from Adkins???

Not sure why anyone is surprised, we have heard his interviews for 2 years!

He obviously doesn't speak the same way to the players so I'm sure he let them know we weren't good enough.

Everything he says to the press is considered, planned and entirely a front.

You will never truly gain anything from those interviews, the real work happens behind the scenes.

Some would see it as boring, almost dishonest. Personally I see it as professional.

A few weeks ago when Adkins was saying he gets on well with the chairman and picks the team people lauded this as PROOF those that said this wasn't the Case didn't know what they were on about and Adkins proved all these doubters wrong. Are we now saying that actually, we can't read too much into anything Adkins says post match?

You read into it what you want, as you invariably do. ;)

No Colin, your opinion is of interest. Can we read much into Adkins post match interviews or not? Or can we do it only when it suits us?

Very much this. :p It lets people read what they want.

And my opinion means sh*t, i'm just a fan.

His post match interviews now to me are utterly worthless, win or lose. He just goes into a zone that is meaningless. Beginning to lose faith and the players must be too. Sorry I know he is a great bloke and has worked miracles but am increasingly thinking he can go no further

You think he can go no further due to his post match interviews? I'd be very surprised if he speaks to the players the same way he speaks to Adam Blackmoor

so we should get rid because he has a repetitive style of handling interviews ?

someone posted a link on here last week to an article from this expert in positive speaking/body languge motivational type stuff & he was creaming himself over Nigel's interviews, pointing out the techniques he employs in them.

i'm sure the players are getting royaly p*ssed off with the positive, united message Nigel delivers each week & would rather he said how crap they had performed & that its all a waste of time.

Seriously FF what do you expect him to say? He says the post-match stuff that TV need him to say as part of the Prem League contract with clubs. He is about the only manager with a qualification in psychology which also puts him above others.

He clearly keeps his real comments for the players on the training ground.

Not sure whether union reps have ever understood how to work the media tbh FF!!

You don't have to be boring as hell in your post match interviews to be a successful manager.

I'm hoping DellDays posts the list of points on here tomorrow, like he used to after each match. If no one posts the key points from the post Liverpool interview by lunchtime tomorrow, I'll go back to find them from one of the older matches and copy and paste them.

It's really not going to be revelatory is it.

Nah, I'd just seen people make reference to his post match interview on a couple of other threads so I was looking for the lastest list. I assume there was mention of controlables, drawing lines and so on.

Sorted, this'll do......

  • It [was/wasn't] a fun afternoon
  • Don't think it was a penalty/think it was a penalty
  • [insert play name] was bright and positive
  • [player] got caught out
  • We tried to be positive and utilise width and pace
  • I must take full responsibility
  • I [made/didn't make] [x] changes, you can talk about it all day long - we played [3 times in a week] have to consider recovery process
  • Playing our [youngsters/experienced player/Guly] to give them the chance to be [right/solid/fulfil contract that states they play 15 minutes] for the football club
  • This matters - we are playing for Southampton Football Club, I love the club
  • I expect [good/bad/average] performances because of [insert reason here]
  • It is my responsibility - that team should be able to [win/draw/lose], but it is my responsibility
  • I [tried/didn't try] to give some players without game-time an opportunity
  • stability is important at every level - we want to be successful
  • The chairman will decide what is right for [the football club/team/Guly]
  • We need stability but cannot keep losing games
  • Supporter today was [superb/pretty good/average/quiet/poor/like the skates recently]
  • All I want is the best for Southampton Football Club
  • I don't want to be anywhere else, I want nothing more than for SFC to be successful - and be successful together
  • I love Southampton Football Club
  • We just need to control the controlables
  • We'll draw a line under the game and move on

Which is probably as diverse, if not more, than other managers responding to losing situations in the Prem!

For example:

Sam Allerdyce:

* We didn't deserve to lose

* The ref got it wrong

Hapy that he s 'boring' and gives nothing away - compared to when Redflaps was here and his post match interviews were a combination of blaming the players for not being good enough and other BS - publically slating players whose confidence was already at alow ebb... worked a trick, yes!

Believe he is being more than professional in keeping emotions at bay so close post mach - we know he likes to review and analyse and work with the squad on understanding where we went wrong - some forget he and the squad are still learning. We have shown we have quality, but lack consistency of concentration and application, and the quality of the opposition as well as 3 games in a week will expose us when not at 100%.

Dissapointment is always relative to expectation. A dose of realism about where we are and how much work is still to be done is not a bad thing. And NA's refusal to go into deatils about failures or mistakes in public is a good thing IMHO. Assuming that is because he is ignorant of the failings is naive in my opinion.

Trouble is there is so little public information coming out of SMS these days his post match interviews are the one chance we might actually learn something about our club. I was confused on Saturday having read all the negative reports from those at the match and then listened to his interview which left me with the impression that we had actually got something out of the match. I felt he was patronising in his responses - a bit more honesty and reality would not go amiss. I don't mind losing but when I hear my team have hardly mustered a shot on goal all afternoon I expect the manager to be at least as ****ed of as me.

I'm sure he was.

Your desire to hear some sort of valedictory moan is rather childish. He has a way of doing interviews. It works for him. It isn't going to change. He has the highest win percentage of any SFC manager since 1897.

Given what he has achieved, moaning about interview styles not appealing to your tastes is frankly pathetic and smacks of a completely misguided sense of entitlement.

According to R5L, in teh second half, we started playing and were much better... in game reports siggesting Liverpool were ropey... make of that what you will, but Unless we know what NA says in private to the squad, we have no idea whether his public comments are just naive or clever.

Thing is FF, are we the only fans that seem determined to see the worst in things all the time? Club silence is seen as bad, NA being guarded is bad... etc - whats with the the desperate appetite for 'information' anyway? Is it necessary? I suspect that its only because we want it to dispell myth and rumour - which ca be done by ignoring myth and rumour... 2 things that matter - performance/results and finances. The first we will judge ourselves - some will be realistic, others always disappointed - the second we will need to wait until the accounts are published (the advantage of former PLC status was access to way more detail, but thats another story)... in the interim, we have seen periodic quality from a young an inexperienced side, survive this season and the next could be pretty interesting. Chin up ;-)

Why does having a qualification in psychology put him above others? Are you suggesting that he uses the media and interviews better than Ferguson, Redknapp, Martinez, I could go on.

If we had the time, I bet most of us could read a few books and get a qualification in psychology, it's no big deal.

Just want to point out that 1) I posted the link and 2) I did NOT cream myself over it :)

The link was to a Psychologist who analysed Nigel's utterings. Then he referred back to specific Psychology stuff and processes.

IMHO ANYOBODY who does not understand that this stuff is critical in Sport these days should go get themselves self-fossilised and lay down on the beach at Sidmouth.

Mind games are as vital in modern sport as Sports Science.

Perhaps some on here prefer to have a manager like 'Arry who doesn't bother with all that and stands on the touchline and says 'Ave it and 5-0 down at half time ''Its ok lads we've got the wind second half''

What a shame you have to resort to including a few insults with your views; "childish"? Moi?

Liverpool were crap in parts of the game and are a weak side but where it differed was we were **** the whole game and were absolutely lame and rolled over, the players should really be ashamed of themselves for that, that had everything in that performance to why the modern day player is mocked and laughed at.
