Thedelldays Posted 2 December, 2012 Share Posted 2 December, 2012 Everyone used to look up to English football as the best atmosphere in the world, now the Germans are saying they are worried that they will become like us. Sums it all up doesn't it. we could in this country....quite easily if we had safe standing... but the doo gooders will go mental..we will have to have years of enquiries and investigation...then another few years of trials..and maybe, by 2025 we may have safe standing.... cellone Posted 2 December, 2012 Share Posted 2 December, 2012 The thing is if loads of young Saints fans wore rep shirts, scarfs, wigs, silly hats, flags, etc and gave it rock all (banging drum and genaral uproar) for the whole game they would get ripped. If the club provided a 2nd class area of the stadium there would be a right old kuffuffle.
pap Posted 2 December, 2012 Share Posted 2 December, 2012 Even the Germans have noticed how shi.te the atmosphere is in England. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/david-conn-inside-sport-blog/2012/dec/02/ermany-bundesliga-noisy-fans?CMP=twt_gu #AMF That is an interesting read, if a bit gutting. Confirmation of what we all suspected. I bore my kids with tales of getting into the Dell at the £3 "boy" rate in the sexist 80s. Ticket prices make a massive difference, especially for getting youngsters interested in the game. Isn't a big problem with any protest the fact that many of those who are bothered are already priced out of the market? Personally, I do think we've got a fair few returners at away games. In terms of per capita intensity, our League One visits trump our greater numbers in the Prem.

When we were kids we could get the bus to and from town, get into the game, buy a programme and a fanzine, get a mcdonalds or go to the chippy on the way home all from your £6 paper round money. Plus the best thing about it was you could stand where you wanted with your mates. You could sing and make a noise for 90 minutes without wearing a replica shirt and silly hat. shane d Posted 3 December, 2012 Share Posted 3 December, 2012 Rubbish game to watch. Been going to away games for nearly 30 years, and that was the most silent I have ever heard home fans. They should be embarrassed!
West End Saint Posted 3 December, 2012 Share Posted 3 December, 2012 I enjoyed the day out & another ground ticked off the list massively disapointed with ourapproach to the game we sat off them way to much & let them play we showed far to much respect when we did win it rather than break a pace we laboured until we lost it. Liverpool should have won by a bigger margin but they were not that good we were poor also very dissapointed with the Liverpool fans shocking atmosphere as quiet as the Everton fans it is wierd being in a stadium that is packed but so little atmosphere I hope Boxing day at Fulham is better

The9 Posted 3 December, 2012 Share Posted 3 December, 2012 Woeful. Worst performance I have seen for a long long time. Big fan of Adkins - But he fooked up today - Settled for a non embarrassing scoreline, when it was patently obvious the shape, the system, the players weren't working. I am still confused as to why he didn't do anything. [/email] I thought Liverpool were comfortably the better side and it didn't have much to do with tactics and more our underperformance. Admittedly they played defensively in midfield as playbreakers for 90 minutes knowing that they'd create enough with Suarez and Sterling to get a goal (or more) but we simply couldn't create anything with their pressing and, for yet another away game against a half decent side, Lambert wasn't any use and was isolated. At least he had the nous to try some long shots though. They're better than their league position suggests, but I wouldn't say many of our players were allowed to play well. We were as anaemic as our kit. The match is still getting repeated on LFCTV for those who want to relive it...
The9 Posted 3 December, 2012 Share Posted 3 December, 2012 Oh, and as far as the atmosphere went, I was stunned. I've been to Anfield about 10 times since the mid-80s and that was by far the quietest I've ever heard it. I guess they just don't have any passion for being a mostly mediocre mid-table side after the success they had until 20 years ago. Not sure why anyone would think the Saints fans were daytrippers though when the tickets sold out before ST holders could buy them for a whole day - although as I noted at the time, Everton didn't sell out and that was basically the same "day out" for anyone but against a better side. When in reality, thousands of people each week up and down the country stand up in football stadiums without any problems whatsoever. I've certainly never had a serious injury from standing on my feet in any other walk of life.
