Worst performance I have seen for a long long time.

 

Big fan of Adkins - But he fooked up today - Settled for a non embarrassing scoreline, when it was patently obvious the shape, the system, the players weren't working. I am still confused as to why he didn't do anything.

Honestly we weren't that bad. Both teams had played 3 games in 6 days and both managers hadn't really grasped the concept of rotating the squad.

 

Disappointed that a draw was within the grasp, pleased we didn't get a hiding.

 

No idea what Myuka has done to be so firmly thrown out of contention compared to a TERRIBLE Puncheon but meh. What do we expect. 1-0 flattered Liverpool massively. 0-0 would have flattered both teams really as no one looked like they should win it and a decent header was the difference.

Pretty dreadful game really. Defence still improving but with that our goal threat disappeared today, never put an average Liverpool under any real pressure at all. Don't understand why Mayuka didn't get a 20 minute run out at the end to have a bit of a go at them.

I watched the game on a stream, to be honest I didn't think it was that bad a performance. WE looked very tired, which surprised me considering Adkins' "Saints fit" ethos. I thought that we looked a little nervous, particularly in the final third where we all too often looked like we were just too desperate to release the ball, despite lack of support.

 

I thought Liverpool looked OK, we have to remember that we were away at Anfield and it was our 3rd game in 6 days.

I don't go away these days but I get feed back from a pal who goes to most away games. Had an email last night from him and words included were, 'inept, worst display for ages, gave L'pool too much respect, looked knackered, defensive lineup, no pace etc'.

I take it from the above that he wasn't impressed.

Liverpool have the quietest set of fans I have ever heard. I was always under the impresssion Anfield was one of those grounds where the atmosphere was always brilliant (like Fratton Park I suppose). I think the only time I heard them was for about 20 seconds after they scored, until they were drowned out by OWTS. Our support was good, but I was slightly baffled by some people insisting on singing COYR - I wonder if those people ere genuiely confused by which colour we were and thought we won the game?

 

As for the performance, we were very poor.

I think too many of our players (Morgan, Lambert) and the manager were in awe of Liverpool - some of the press stuff before the game was just embarassing.

 

We have earned the right to play them this season - and let's not forget we were in the top division for 27 years - it's where we belong.

 

It's the worst Liverpool side for years - we should have beaten them. And Liverpool are not the team or club of old - they are in decline.

 

The other problem is we don't have enough strength in depth - we should have rested a couple of players in mid week - but failed to do so - but other than in one or two positions we don't have a second 11

definetley alot of day trippers there yesterday,

as you say until we stop attending games nothing will change,sadly things will never change,at least at some grounds the stewards dont treat us as if we are at the theatre,after all football is about passion,having a crack and banter with the home fans,sadly this is all being taken away.

I agree but it's not going to happen anytime soon. Proper fans are being replaced by day trippers and you've only got to read this forum to see how obsesssed some seem to be with marketing information, merchandise, the matchday experience, half time entertainment and attracting new fans from our huge yet untapped catchment area and all the other things that go hand in hand with modern day soccerball.

I thought the whole ground lacked any sort of atmosphere, their support was woeful.

 

Couldn't understand the standing policy. Seemed to be vigourously enforced in one block, but not anywhere else. Where I was there was Zero tolerance of standing, even taking people out to "have a word with them", but one block over people stood all game.

 

Away from the ground I found the people/taxi drivers ect great as always. Friendly and helpful.

Didn't go much to my daughters disappointment. Simply couldn't justify the price for 3 of us plus travel. Went to many away games in the lower leagues but Prem Prices are not for football fans, only day trippers

Still not even left Liverpool yet but yes, we were terrible. One big difference was try defended from the front and we didn't. We seemed to wait until they got into the final third before trying to win the ball.

I don't remember a single clear cut chance we created.

It was better than my list trip to Anfield when we lost 7 - 1 but that's all. Thought both teams were poor but Liverpool had the edge. Agree with another poster who said we showed them too much respect they are not the team of the 70's or 80's anymore. I was most disappointed with the atmosphere no passion from the Liverpool fans and Anfield was not the cauldron it used to be.

We weren't that bad! Liverpool passed the ball very well in the first half and controlled the game, as you would expect the home team to.

 

Second half, we stepped things up but just lacked a bit of cutting edge in the final third, despite getting into good positions. Defensively we had a good shape, and this is now 5 games with only 4 goals conceded.

 

Credit where it's due though, Agger and Skrtel completely nullified Rickie and Liverpool gave a good lesson in how domination of possession can make the opposition ineffective

The stewarding was bizarre. I was in the right side block and everyone stood throughout the game with no hassle. Three feet away, On the opposite side of the gangway the sitting rule was being enforced with a vengeance.

 

And around me the singing was good until mid way through the second half when it went flat.

We were stood in the queue for the free bus when all these little gob****es started running after this bus giving it the large one, until the traffic stopped, at which point they all stopped and started jumping up and down on the spot not really knowing what to do, then one of their mates shouted something and they all ran off down a side street. Its very much overrated, I go sometimes with my father in law as he has season tickets in the main stand and its all day trippers and people who swop season tickets from London, Dublin and Belfast.

To be fair to Anfield, it was a much better spectacle than Goodison. The Kop looked awesome when they were moving that huge banner around.

 

I will say that both grounds are noticeably quieter than they were the last time we played them, and I daresay we'll hear this again and again through the season.

Agreed. I popped in to watch the Chelsea game last May and was surrounded by obvious 'day-trippers', more interested in photographing their various wives, kids etc posing with their backs to play. It was a quite surreal experience, and feckin annoying after a while.

 

My previous visit was in 1971 when me and a mate hitch-hiked up there, stood on the Kop and experienced the atmosphere shown in the above clip. Things had got a lot more aggressive by then and we had to keep our mouths shut, and applaud when Toshack scored FFS!

You don't think it might be because regardless of how massive we might think we are these clubs don't really view us like that and Sotuhamptons visit isn't their must do game every season?
