Window Cleaner Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Which is why I dont understand why Nige isn't using the squad more, what's Mayuka done wrong? Why wasnt he brought on to add some much needed energy and pace? Why was Rodriguez not brought on until 12 minutes to go? I didn't expect to get anything today and I don't blame the players for being tired, but I find it strange we aren't using the squad more. don't want to kick the old cage but I really don't think Nigel wants Mayuka here. Mayuka in, Nigel's boy Billy out. Don'"t want to accuse him of being partisan and petty but I really can't see any other reason, unless of course there's an attitude problem or something. pap Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Just back from the game. The scoreline flatters us. Could just as easily been 3 or 4, possibly more. I thought Liverpool were good; very effective at breaking us down. Shame we helped them out so much. Bit too hurried in possession, or alternatively, trying to pass the pass into the back of the net. Officials certainly didn't help. If Skrtel had decked Rickie it'd be 50/50 whether it was even a foul Overall, a little disappointing, but some signs of encouragement. A bit more bread and butter basics ( seem to remember Gaston losing the ball a lot ), better ref and it could have been a different story. They are there for the taking this season. Why was Rodriguez only given 3 minutes on Wednesday too. Again, tricky as we have all moaned about taking Lambert/Puncheon/Lallana off against ManU. But whereas Puncheon was playing brilliantly in that game, Ramirez, Lambert and Lallana were having little effect today.
Wade Garrett Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 If we are as fit as Adkins claims then we should be able to handle 3 games in 6 days especially as 2 were at home. Sorry tiredness is a lame excuse and not good enough. When you come up against a big club having an off day it games like that you need to take at least a point. When you take into account Liverpool's Europa Cup game, they're the ones who should be tired.

He still can play but he has got no pace and doesn't get about the pitch at all. This was exposed second half as we got hold of the middle of the pitch. Anfield sounded a bit quiet. Was it? VectisSaint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 I can't see Mayuka getting a game until he comes back from the African Cup of Nations. He was brilliant last year and if he plays as well this year he will give NA one serious headache. That said apart from today Puncheon has really upped his game but I really don't know why we signed Mayuka if we're never going to use him Unless he gets some games, its debatable whether he will even go to the Africa Cup (actually I'm sure he will). Zambia must be wondering why their star player is not even getting a game at the moment, he will hardly be match-sharp. Must admit from what I've seen I've not been impressed, apart from his enthusiasm, but like most have hardly seen anything at all as yet. I think this week has highlighted that our squad depth is not what it needs to be, we have a decent 1st XI but we don't have much to bring in when needed. VectisSaint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 he was good against Villa and Spurs. I didn't see Spurs so cannot comment. Against Villa he looked full of running and enthusiasm, but his touch was woeful, Bambi on ice sort of thing, and he was only on the pitch for 15 minutes when we were 3-1 up. Not knocking him by any means, just saying we haven't really seen enough of him to make any judgements, and I don't understand why, can only assume that Adkins does not see much from him in training. Perhaps after today Adkins may think about making some changes, 5 games with unchanged side, and first defeat I can understand why he kept the same team. I think a couple of changes might freshen things up.

Hedgehog Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 The only thing I am really left with after today is how truly terrible TV commentators are these days. The one i was listening to seemed to think that every time Suarez got the ball he was going to score, and raised his voice accordingly.....Then had to reset and go all calm again until the next time. It became really annoying after a while. The reason why I hate ITV live games, can't remember the commentators name but he is always doing it..."and it's ROOOONEY!! or GERRARRD!!" ART Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 No points but must have been the best defending exercise for the lads against the constant pressure for Liverpool. Shows that they have made good progress and can only get better. What I can't understand is why Prowsey's remains on the bench game after game. He offers a better option as he showed against United and City. He and Ramirez together would be a class act and liven things up when we can move up the pitch. I'd be mighty ****ed off if I were being left to rot on the bench.

Either way, definitely the award for the most innacurate and inept summary so far. which parts don't you agree with? We were pretty pitiful, at least in the first half anyway. I thought we sat back rather than press them, which allowed them to build from the back with ease. This could easily be interpreted as paying them far more respect than they deserved or being in awe. Once we pushed up a bit and actually put them under pressure they turned ball over and we could get into the game. They are a poor Liverpool side in comparison to the sides we have played over the last 30 years. The subs part is spot on.

Lazlo78 Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Very telling that there is little moaning in this thread. We looked second best and possibly a little tired, and they where rather ineffective in front of goal. We kept the scoreline decent but we weren't really close to getting an equaliser. alpine_saint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Seeing as this was a game we were expected to lose, at a place where we ave never had much joy, 1-0 doesnt seem such a disaster. pingwing Posted 2 December, 2012 Share Posted 2 December, 2012 Finally home, we looked SHATTERED! As did Liverpool really, two sides with 3 games in 6 days that thoroughly disappointed everyone who went. Shining light, Gazza put the terrible Wednesday behind him and played better than he did last weekend. All of our back line played well too, was the difference between 1-0 and 10. Going forward I cannot see who's misses Myuka has ****ged to keep him self out of the squad like this. 4-4-2 DOES NOT WORK and playing Rodriguez in it is an embarrassment. Punch had a typical punch game, was incisive for 10 mins then they cottoned on to what he does then he looked a prat for 60 mins till he was subbed. Useless performance. Everyone else just was tired. Adkins has to rotate for these sorts of fixtures in the future, its not football manager. Playing this sort of set of fixtures in Europe would KILL us and we would stand no chance. Thankfully Liverpool had lump it to Suarez and see what happens as a tactic which was as about as useful as a chocolate teapot, he's a very good footballer but we had an answer for him and that ruined it. Good header from Skirtil for the goal but realistically 0-0 flattered both teams. 1-0 loss gives us a lot of positives going into the Reading game which is must win and shows up how thin on the ground Liverpool are. At least it wasn't a loss to a broken Newcastle or Norwich.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 2 December, 2012 Share Posted 2 December, 2012 Watched the last 20 on TV over here. Seemed to me that we had plenty of legs, got the ball into dangerous areas a few times, but dreadful pass execution cost us. Davis and Rodriguez the culprits. Need to be far more clinical in the EPL. Sloppiness ends in defeats. Like this did.

Agreed, seemed to show them too much respect. Never really got stuck into Liverpool at all, an allround tired, lacklustre, uninspiring performance. Our support was poor, very quiet, with large amounts sat down, but that really wasn't helped with the huge over the top police and steward set-up. All for £42. Yesterday was a good reminder of how s**t being back in the Prem can be at times.
