S-Clarke Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Pretty poor spectacle from both sides to be honest, not enough urgency and too flat across the pitch. Lallana, Puncheon, Lambert no involved enough. Gaston coming too deep to get the ball, and is being frustrated and trying to be too clever when he does get it. Very frustrating afternoon, would expect this to be last game of MOTD - it was that poor! Still, defensively we're looking tighter. We don't buckle as we did earlier in the season, and have a better shape about us. Our last 3 games have probably taken a hell of alot out of us though, we looked leggy and our minds looked tired hence lots of the misplaced passes. Next weekend is a huge one, need to get back on track there. There's not really any other option.
Badger Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Tired! Three matches in six days taking its toll. No surprise really. Poor reflection though that despite the summer spending we have few options available to us who can cut it at this level, therefore the side largely picks itself. Lighthouse Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Losing at Anfield is standard enough. Disappointing performance, it sounds like we were just tired from 3 games in 7 days. We don't have the depth in our squad to go making 4 changes. Rest and recharge because beating Reading is crucial.

Restark19 Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 ah well, could have been much worse. on to the next one. Reading at home, need 3 points out of that one. At least Villa v QPR is looking like finishing 1-
Thedelldays Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 ah...very poor performance...3 games in a week 4 points...and only 1-0 defeat... how we only lost 1-0 i dont know...it was virtually one way traffic... thought ramirez was very poor...too many little flicks and stray passes in dangerous areas...infact, most of the team was poor gazza did not do much wrong Clyne and Fonte did well..but that was it.. bit of rest and ready to go again against reading..which is such a massive game..just hope they lose and it stays a draw at loftus Rd

Saints foreva Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Disappointed but wasn't expecting much. Mayuka seems a pointless signing, and Jay Rod hasn't impressed me one bit since being here. Could have just put £2m of whatever we paid for those two and got a far better player in Michu. Oh well.
LostBoys Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Another poor performance against a patchy Liverpool side. It could have been a lot worse. It has to be better next week against Reading.
Katalinic Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Anything would have been a bonus and in truth we were lucky to still be in at at half time. Second half we improved but passed the ball poorly when in half decent areas. What Mayuka has to do to even get on the pitch for 15 minutes I just don't know - he would have been a better option that Jay Rodriguez at that stage of the game. SaintPC Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 No shots on target apparently! Says it all really. We need to be giving the better teams at least a game. student Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Bit disappointing because at times I felt Liverpool were there for the taking. UpweySaint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Positives, we look defensively less disastrous then we have and on another day with fresher legs we could have nicked something. And of course Shaw looked very assured again, could do with finding some shooting boots perhaps but not exactly crucial to his game. Negatives, for me neither sub offered anything to the game (what does mayuka have to do?!?) and it was all rather uninspiring. Oh and Suarez still feels it neccessary to try and cheat, good as he is genuinely wouldn't want him anywhere near our club!
St Marco Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 To be honest i'm happy with a 1-0 loss. Keeps our gd down and doesn't destroy morale. The game was pretty poor in honest and the players look knackered. The next two games are huge for us. Both teams around us so we need to win or we could start getting cut adrift again. S-Clarke Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Good 1-1 result in the QPR - Villa game. Happy with that. Keeps everyone in touch. Need to get Man Utd powering past Reading and today hasn't been too bad.
Sheaf Saint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Lucky it wasn't more than 1-0 in the end. Players looked very tired and weary from our recent run of games. Poor concentration, and totally devoid of any ideas or quality. When you're not playing well you rely on a little bit of luck, but nothing ran for us today either. Every 50-50 always seemed to somehow land at the feet of a Liverpool player. Oh well - I didn't expect us to get anything out of this game, but we did improve a little in the second half and contain them a bit better, and our last-ditch defending was good enough today - and it took a top-quality header to breach the goal. Looking at the table, we are still only one win away from 14th, so onwards and upwards hopefully.
ToreSF Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Fair enough to loose away to L'pool, but this was an effortless performance by us. Think we got the tactics wrong in the first half as Liverpool played much more direct than we where prepared for. Way to much space behind our defenders. When we once in a while won the ball, there was no-one willing to attack. Second half we looked very tired. Lets hope this is a blessing in disguise and that we will be sharper next week. Bring on Reading.

CanadaSaint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Tactically we got it wrong IMO - our midfield defended far too deep in the first half and we didn't adequately recognize the importance of their attacking full backs. It was almost as though we were setup to avoid a hammering, which is paying them too much respect. Morgan was barely in it in the first half, better in the second. Davis frustrates the hell out of me with his telegraphed passes that are so easy to intercept. I'm starting to become concerned about our fitness levels. Roger Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Thought our decision making was really poor in final third. Lallana was just shocking today. Needs to be much stronger and his decision making was abysmal. Kept just falling over all the time. Puncheon was poor aswell. Ramirez poor first half but played a lot better second half, lambert other way round. Thought fonte and yoshida played okay actually. Shaw didnt have as good a game today they kept coming down the right all the time. Steven davis contribution when he came on was to play 2 awful balls and put us in big trouble. Really feel we missed opportunity as they were very average imo.
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Poor game, flat performance by Saints. However, if we are going to play like that, at least it's not against a side at the bottom. Great result between QPR and Villa. If Reading lose then it will effectively be as you were, with us only a win away from safety. Chins up, could have been much worse.

Chez Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 You're not too keen on Yoshida are you... he's not as bad as I am making out possibly, but I've had every man and his dog tell me Jos is not up to it, yet none of these people seem to be criticising Yoshida for his mistakes and all round ****ness. For me Jos should not have been dropped. He may not be top clas, but neither is Yoshida. Jos is as quick as him, better in the air, organises better, offers better positional play and actually tackles and bullies players. Yoshida is more comfortable on the ball and doesn't dive in, but that's it. His passing has been attrocious in the last three games. Jos should have been given more time to find his feet and he might have got back to his best by now. Centre back is a crucial position. Lose Michael Svensson and we went down. doggface Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Expected better performances last 2 games. Fonte other than the goal did great as did clyne. Offensively appalling for once, lallana had a bad game as did jrod in just 15 mins. Ramirez was poor and I rate the lad but surely Michu plus another 2-3 players would have made more sense? Luxury away from home? they played lambert well who was non existent and we struggled with his lack of pace. They were good 1st half but poor 2nd. BigShadow Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Deserved nothing - got nothing. Key difference was Liverpool's ability to move the ball quickly. We seemed lethargic and ponderous. sfc1976 Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Turned into a typically scrappy relegation six pointer after the break. Yoshida is not a prem player in a million years. Ohio Saint Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 The only thing I am really left with after today is how truly terrible TV commentators are these days. The one i was listening to seemed to think that every time Suarez got the ball he was going to score, and raised his voice accordingly.....Then had to reset and go all calm again until the next time. It became really annoying after a while.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 Very disappointing in my view - Liverpool were pretty poor and we gave them the game. There was no urgency to our play - Lallana never got into space, so nothing happened down our right wing. Not one cross into the box found Lambert who had a nothing game when he could have made a name for himself. Stirling was their only really decent player, but for most areas of the park we were non-committal. Our MOTM - Clyne - him and Shaw only two of ours that looked bothered. Chez Posted 1 December, 2012 Share Posted 1 December, 2012 I just wonder if teams are seeing that we don't have any pace, playing with a high line and that is congesting the game making is hard for players like Lallana and Ramirez to get between the lines and cause teams trouble. If we had Mayuka playing up front with Lambert, rather than Ramirez then that might push teams back creating more space for Ramirez. Oh, that doesn't work as Ramirez has made way for Mayuka in the first place. Certainly is things are not going well we need to consider this alternative approach. Merrison's analysis was that in the first half we had 4 in midfielders against their 5 so we were being over-run. He suggested that Ramirez needed to drop deeper to help out. We did this in the second half hence our better second half performance. I only heard the match but Merrington is usually pretty good with his analysis.
