I thought a complete free press was essential..

whats the issue here..?

 

More important for people's liberty not to be intruded by underhand Press story gathering methods.

 

The media barons go on about freedom of the press, but they are the ones acting like draconian communist dictators. They're playing the part of the 1984 Big Brother. We need to be protected from them by legislation, not more ineffective self-regulation. The press have had their chance and spectacularly blown it.

 

Hypocrites, and Cameron is caving because he doesn't want to upset them. Spineless.
