Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 ...could he do a job for us? I'm inclined to say yes, be a good bit of experience in the team, a player to look up to for the young players. I assume 1 offer is from QPR and 'Arry.
alpine_saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 ...could he do a job for us? I'm inclined to say yes, be a good bit of experience in the team, a player to look up to for the young players. I assume 1 offer is from QPR and 'Arry. Dear god no, he can f**k off. No way do we want that narcissistic family coming along and ruining club and team spirit.
Spudders Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 No way do we want that narcissistic family coming along and ruining club and team spirit. Yeah those Beckham kids are bound to have a massive impact on the players mental state
alpine_saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Yeah those Beckham kids are bound to have a massive impact on the players mental state I was primarily thinking of him and his bint, and you know it.
Spudders Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 How can you be so disrespectful to a spice girl FFS, she like one of the queens of pop you know!
Baldbarbarian Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 the only reason I would say yes is because of the amount of money he would bring through the door in shirt sales. Beckham is a brand more than he is a player these days.
Miltonroader07 Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 have we ever seen Becks play in goal
gaz Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 One trick pony. No pace, poor tackling, huge ego and horrific hairdos. He'll fit in well.
trousers Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 ...could he do a job for us? Yes, of course he could....at a sensible price....
Noodles34 Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Dear god no, he can f**k off. No way do we want that narcissistic family coming along and ruining club and team spirit. There you go again, funny how most people on her think of you in the same way.
Nexstar Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Dear god no, he can f**k off. No way do we want that narcissistic family coming along and ruining club and team spirit. Not sure Victoria would get an invite to training. Could be wrong.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Not sure Victoria would get an invite to training. Could be wrong. Even if she did, can't imagine she'd be that interested in coming. Also, he isn't the bad player that people make out. He never had pace in his peak, he was a real worker - and knew where to put himself. Also, his passing/crossing and set pieces are second to none.
skintsaint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Will end up at QPR... If he came here maybe he could play that Quarterback role ...can't see how else he would fit into the system. He won't end up here anyhow...

alpine_saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Yes, of course he could....at a sensible price.... Thus enedth the discussion. He's going to be after his last football-related hooray; "sensible" aint gonna get a look in. I do like the naiive thought that his pay would be covered by extra shirt sales. And I can just imagine the next time I go to an outdoor fair in Austria next summer, all the stands, run by Indians/Pakistanis/Bangladeshis selling bootleg football shirts, will be stacked high with the red-and-white pinstripes of Southampton FC with "BECKHAM" half-peeling off or smudged across the shoulders Is number 23 free, btw ?

Thedelldays Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 I'm sure HCDAJFU selling programmes. tits not big enough
alpine_saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 not unless we're selling Luke Shaw Right, Shaw is a better number 23 anyway.
alpine_saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 tits not big enough That excludes the scowling Vildea mop who gave birth to his kids as well, then.
trousers Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 BBC Sport @BBCSport David #Beckham is set to begin talks with French side AS Monaco, reports @BenSmithBBC http://bbc.in/QPdy06 #bbcfootball
Hatch Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Not that he will in a million years, but if he does , I have a spare room he can rent while he settles in.
Turkish Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 He's played for 3 of the worlds biggest clubs, taken the game to american (LOL) and now it'll be a bleary eyed return to his roots where it all began to see oout his career back in the London with West Ham or QPR and it'll be hailed as the final, nostalgic chapter in a remarkable career as his gives football back to the place that gave it to him.

LA -> Monaco. I see a pattern developing here. F**k knows how Manchester fitted in. Were they married back then ?

Window Cleaner Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Oh, its not his wife picking the locations at all, is it ? /QUOTE] Evidently a very sensible lady then. She knows he's about washed up as a real footballer so she's letting him have a regular kick about (Monaco are in the French Second Division albeit top) in a nice place full of her rich and famous friends and saving a bit on the taxes as well. Obviously listened to her home economics classes.

Yet you were concerned about the effect Gaston's pay package might be having on team morale...
Hamilton Saint Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 There you go again, funny how most people on her think of you in the same way. wonderful Freudian slip!
The Kraken Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Get him in. Having seen SFC's last announcement on shirt sales, imagine the hard-on they'll have for the boost D-Beck will give us. Posh can do her shopping at West Quay, she'll love that. And his nippers must be getting towards the age where our academy can have first dibs. Its win-win all the way for me. Welcome aboard Lord Dave.
pap Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 On the rare chance that he was actually interested in coming here, we would be f**king mental not to take him. Yes, he's old - but so is Scholesy. He's also very very famous. We may not get the on-the-pitch impact that we did with Keegan (although I'd back Becks to put a shift in), but this would be bigger in terms of exposure than Keegan. I'm not suggesting we should go for him, but if turns up in Britannia Road and says "Hallo. I'd like to play for your football club. May be a small problem. I'm an international superstar with a famous wife and the eyes of the world's media are upon us", I'd suggest we find a way to navigate through those massive deficiencies.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 She came on the scene and he left about 6/7 years later.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 I'd rather have Scholes than Beckham. I'd rather have Messi than Lambert & Lallana.
Nexstar Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 I'd rather have Scholes than Beckham. And water is wet.
Lighthouse Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 I'm not entirely sure the Beckham replica shirts fly off the shelves quite so quickly these days. He hasn't played for a decent team for 5 years and hasn't made an England appearance for 3. Who actually watches MLS? Who would care if he joined Southampton enough to spend £50 on a Beckham replica Saints shirt? He just isn't the world superstar in his mid 20's who signed for Real Madrid's Galacticos. The school boys of today will idolise the Messis, Ronaldos and Rooneys of the world rather than a player they haven't seen play for 5 years.
pap Posted 29 November, 2012 Posted 29 November, 2012 Not just the replica shirts though, is it? The media will be obsessed with any Prem team Beckham plays for. I daresay a couple of their fixtures will be rearranged for television.

Far East is a huge market of course, but even Europe. I lived in the Alps for 3 winter ski seasons and the large local sports (predominantly ski) shop there had a clutch of French clubs shirts, the French national shirt, plus Barca, Man Utd and a Beckham printed LA Galaxy shirt. Its quite impressive, really! Of course, the club has to be set up to capitalise on national and worldwise sales. Ours clearly isn't; we had queues all the way round West Quay to sell 400 shirts on launch day.
