Liverpool Build Up Thread

3 and half hours since Full Time and still no build up thread.

Here we go.

Gazza has to be dropped for me, he is an accident waiting to happen and tonight the accident happened, our defence needs experience between the sticks.

I'll take a point. Still I reckon we'll get a win against a "big" team, and as we'll be the underdogs for this one, we should perform without fear and could potentially steal all 3 points from this one. It depends on which Liverpool team turns up.

Keep gazza (cant keep changing, you cant improve unless you make mistakes) Dont want boruc anywhere near the teamsheet as still waiting for the "im sorry for having ago at my own fans but they started it" letter plus hes unfit and just a bad goalkeeper.

I would like jay rod to have more game time and maybe mayuka to play as theres not point buying these players if they just sit on the bench and waste away.

so same team but maybe jay rod and lambo with morgan on the bench? (hes looked abit dodgy to me latey)

Anything other then a loss would be an amazing result.

I disagree about the Gazza thing above. It isn't the mistakes it is his overall level of ability that worries me. He is poor at coming for crosses, poor at kicking, poor at passes to the full backs, not very good at starting positions and doesn't seem to have much upper body strength. He spills way too many shots. Point being there are too many areas he is not good at and they are being exposed.

Anfield is a very hostile place and the atmosphere could cause his fragile confidence even more damage. Time to put Kelvin back in there and play with the same outfield team as we have the last 4 games.

Gazza's kicking generally has been amazing, was integral in picking apart both QPR and Newcastle. No idea what we are going to do though, Boruc seems to have insulted everyone and can't be bothered, Kelvin annoyed me in L1 by being beaten in the same place week in week (and 14 in 4 games is shocking by any standard) out so we are sort of stuck with Gazza, who has been our only keeper to keep a clean sheet.

A point would be amazing, not expecting anything though. Just keen to see a good performance and Suarez sent off for being a ****.

Amazed to see whats going to happen with our fitness levels though, several players should have been rested or given only 60 mins tonight...

Gazza very much has to go, the mistakes are costing us points but his overall play is awful. One good save against Newcastle is about it in recent games, poor handling, looks nervous, poor decisions. The defence is looking settled, we need to remove the calamity behind them.

As for Boruc, he shouldn't have thrown the bottle but the fans were idiots for having a go at him, the goals against Spurs weren't his fault and I think he had every right to give them stick back. Barracking one of your own players for no particular reason 30 mins into a game is idiotic. He's also our best keeper by far.

We can get a draw if we stop Suarez and Sterling we have every chance of winning, but Liverpool should still beat us, so long as we dont play crap and get smashed il be happy, reading at home is the biggest game of the season, il play gazza in liverpool game i actually think him having to be in action most of the game will help him get confident.

I still think Gazza is the least bad option at the moment but I have concerns.

The defence seem to play better in fromt of him, but I suspect that is because there isn't a lot of confidence in him. It sems to me that we are more likely to hoof clear rather than a backpass with Gazzaniga in goal than we were with KD.

Although his reactions are good, he has let in at least two goals (including last night) by not getting down and getting his body behind the ball, but instead parrying with too weak a touch which isn't enough to turn the shot away.

Also, I've always assumed it is the keeper's responsibility at a free kick to decide on the size of the wall and line it up. Why did we only have three in the wall for Norwich's goal, and wht were they protecting an area just outside the goal? The invitation to shoot was obvious.

And signing Boruc looks more and more like an ill-advised panic move. I wouldn't be surprised to see KD getting another chance before long.

3 bad errors in 4 games? Costing us probably four points. Kelvin needs to play for me. Bad spell at start of season but who doesn't have a bad spell.

There is no point in changing keeper - like it or not, Kelv's legs have gone and Boruc is a nutter - both of them are no better than Gazza. However, I do suspect we will see a change as Adkins was not happy after the Norwich game.

Liverpool are there to be taken - a point at least should be expected - they are really not that much right now.

We're unbeaten in 4 games so same starting line up again for me, Gazza included.

Given that I don't believe Liverpool will press us when in possession as much as Norwich did last night, I feel more confident of getting at least a draw out of this game than I did about getting a win vs Norwich.

Would like to see Mayuka get a piece of the action in second half.

For me if we persist with Gazza he will continue to make mistakes that will be costly we just have to pin our hopes that he does come good and if he doesnt??? we are screwed

Give Boruc a decent run,he will be rusty for a few games maybe but when he gets "match fit" he will be awsome,he is only 32 ffs and has more experience than both our keepers put together, people waiting for a grovelling apology from a keeper known for his temperament are living in a dreamworld!!!

Boruc or Davis need to play.

Gazzaniga simply isn't ready to be in goal for us, we are not in a position to rely on a Goalkeeper who is so prone to being at fault for nearly a goal a game.

Agreed, with goals so hard to come by in the PL you just can't give opponents freebies when you've worked so hard to get yours.

We have 4 points less than we should have because our keeper just isn't good enough and that's without looking at anything pre-Gazza. It's the difference between nearly mid table and scrubbing about in the bottom 3. that's a vast amount of money at the end of the day and a lot of destructive anti-morale for the players.

liverpool were very unlucky last night by all accounts and suarez ran the game but just did not score.

see nothing but a comfortable win for them...we looked tired and the movement of suarez and serling will be too much IMO

Not forgetting the England captain.

There is no point in talking about Davis anymore, he is what he is. If he is picked it would surprise me but it's up to Adkins. Boruc is another matter, he is experienced but for whatever reason despite the experience, Adkins isn't picking him. I personally think that if he was the obvious improvement and has resolved the weight/fitness problem after two months training Adkins would already be picking him. The mere hint of the Friedel rumour, if true, would mean that the goalkeeper we bought for the future is the only viable alternative at the moment. If a now fit Boruc is picked on Saturday I would hope that it is because he is now the best goalkeeper not a last throw of the dice. I do think that Gazzaniga will continue in goal.

Am I the only one that doesn't rate Sterling that highly? Decent player yes, but feel the fact he is a young English player at (an average) Liverpool and in this country we are always desperate for "the next big thing" he is getting talked up more than he actually delivers? Reminds me of a slightly weaker version of Aaron Lennon.

Think the same re Zaha too. Against Saints the Palace fans were going crazy about him singing that "He's just too good for you" song 90 seconds into the game when actually Lallana ended up tearing them apart at home and away (I think he played well against our reserves in the League cup though) whilst both games seemed to pass him by?

Then again I have a tendency to say that "X player" is rubbish moments before he either scores for us (Guly's done this a few times) or against us....

It's the pace, players with a lot of pace tend to get maybe over hyped. Suarez is a class act as a player, the best hope we have of stopping him is winding him up I rekcon.

Definitely Boruc in for me, needs some games under his belt.

Think our lads will be tired and Liverpool probably have more quality options to freshen up their squad than we do. Would like to see a good performance, come out with no injuries and see what happens but we shouldn't get too down if we loose, depsite their slow start Liverpool at Anfield is never going to be easy.

Not entirely sure why some want KD back between the sticks, he's shown to be just as error prone as Gazzaniga this season and his distribution is much worse. Bigger question is why can't Boruc get near the team? Is he not yet match fit? Fallen out with Adkins?

He's conceded some soft goals and been beaten at his near post too often. You also saw the two errors in distribution against Man United; both of which could and should have been punished by goals just as Gazza's against Swansea was. On the flip side he saved two penalties, though both of them were very poor penalties, but still needed saving to be fair to him.

Basically i don't see that either Davis or Gazzaniga are good enough. Sadly it will be one or the other, Boruc doesn't even make the bench so is clearly well out of the reckoning.

I think goalkeepers need to learn and gazza will improve. Boric and Davis both looked poor and are as good as they will ever be. If we persist with gazza so that he progresses as a goalkeeper we could be talking about one of the bargain buys in a few years with a settled, accomplished premier league goalie. If we swap to Davis, after two game the call will be for boric, then after another few games we will be back with gazza, confidence stricken and not as experienced.

Because we have accumulated points against the teams we should, I'd like to see changes to the team, perhaps Mayuka in for Puncheon and Rodriguez getting a portion of the game (but Lambert must start at Mansfield). We can afford to lose this one and the team may be very tired and there for the taking.

I would say so, let in goals near post every game he played this season before he got dropped, fundamental error IMO. Also made bad distribution errors v United that he was very lucky to get away with. Not saying he's necessarily worse than Gazzaniga, they are quite similar in ability.

Ideally Boruc would be first choice, KD on the bench and Gazza would be on loan at a champ club for the season to gain some experience. unfortunately that doesn't look likely to happen.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League home game against Southampton, who were promoted from the Championship in May.

He said: "Nigel Adkins has done a terrific job there. He's like a lot of British managers who have had to earn the right to come into the Premier League via promotion. He's done a brilliant job there the last couple of seasons, and in the last few games they have had good results."

Just watched Adkins and Morgans press conferences.

Someone on here was saying after the Norwich game that Adkins sounded pretty down on Gazza and thought it likely he'd be dropped.

I feel the opposite now, I think he'll play.

Adkins was bigging him up. But it was Morgan that convinced me. He said "Im sure he'll (Gazza) will make some great saves on Saturday". He tried to change it to "if he plays" but said it all for me.
