The Southampton Goalkeeping Crisis Flowchart

Cody Cropper likes an occasional howler too. I reckon Bouc will get fit and be fine for the rest of the season.

I reckon Boluc is out of favour due to his fitness and attitude. It will come as no surprise if we don't see him again.

Whatever happens, a new GK is called for in January.

I dont think it is very fair calling Gazza a clown he is a young goalkeeper with potential he should be encouraged not insulted by people on here who make mistakes them selves every day.

If there is blame to be attributed it should be to the club which has not invested in a reliable PL Goalkeeper

I still think Gazza is the least bad option at the moment but I have concerns.

The defence seem to play better in fromt of him, but I suspect that is because there isn't a lot of confidence in him. It sems to me that we are more likely to hoof clear rather than a backpass with Gazzaniga in goal than we were with KD.

Although his reactions are good, he has let in at least two goals (including last night) by not getting down and getting his body behind the ball, but instead parrying with too weak a touch which isn't enough to turn the shot away.

Also, I've always assumed it is the keeper's responsibility at a free kick to decide on the size of the wall and line it up. Why did we only have three in the wall for Norwich's goal, and wht were they protecting an area just outside the goal? The invitation to shoot was obvious.

And signing Boruc looks more and more like an ill-advised panic move. I wouldn't be surprised to see KD getting another chance before long.

I struggle to understand why we are not picking Boruc, i have thought this since we dropped him. I rate Gazza but he is too young and prone to the odd howler. Its no good playing well one game then making mistakes the next. His mistake against swansea cost us the win, he was lucky enough to only conceed 1 vs QPR when he was shocking, and he cost us the win last night. No doubt he will come good but this is not the time to be messing around. We need the experience from Boruc for Liverpool.

Like Boruc?

If Saints signed another keeper, however good, it'd only be one bad defeat or slight error before you morons were demanding yet another keeper.

Not sure if you've noticed; but the fans don't make the choice to change the keeper. The manager does that. And, from what he said last night and what he's said before, Adkins looks like he thinks he's given Gazza enough chances and now needs to make a change. Whether we as fans think (or demand, to put it your way) that Gazza should stay or should go, it doesn't matter one iota.

I made this point on another thread. Who we want playing doesn't make one jot of difference, it's all down to Adkins.

It's frustrating that good quality keepers were available this Summer but that none that we have are Premier League quality. The transfer committee desperately needs to look into this failing.

Terrible mistake yesterday, but I'd still stick with Gazzaniga over Davis or Boruc.

1: Despite many on the forum stating Gazzaniga is a calamity waiting to happen/already cost us 4 points due to calamities, the defence still looks far more comfortable playing in front of him than in front of Davis, I include last season when we still looked suspect at the back.

2: I prefer Gazzaniga's attitude to what I've seen of Boruc's, who took it upon himself to sarcastically applaud 'fans' who had the temerity to boo a pretty poor 1st half performance against Spurs. Who the **** is Boruc to walk in here, conceed 4 at West Ham, follow it up with 2 in the first half and then disrespect some fans opinion of his ability. Looks a total tosser to me and I hope to never see him in a Saints shirt again.

I'd prefer to stick with Gazzaniga until January and strengthen the position then, also letting Boruc **** off back to whence he came.

Did Paul Jones get all this stick when he was making mistakes every other week?

As a bit of a process flow expert, I query the lack of clarity around the identical "YES" options following "does Gazzaniga make a howler ?" and the lack of possibility of migrating directly from Davis to Boruc, especially as Kelv has been on the bench for both.

Other than that, mildly amusing.

Did Boruc have a thing with your missus or something?

Of course he has a poor attitude, doesn't mean he's not a good goalkeeper.

I also believe an additional process narrative for clarification would help. He should also have used the diamond decision boxes.

He hasn't looked good in the 2 games I've seen him, and the poor attitude doesn't fit in with the 'together as one' Adkins mantra.

The missus says I fullfil all her out of shape, slow reacting, wierdo needs.

Problem is if Boruc does another West Ham style gaff and then goes nuts and starts chucking stuff into the away end at Anfield you've make the situation a whole lot worse.

Adkins is the only one who can make the call. He sees them in training, he know's their mental state.

A goalkeeper in his prime years of his career age wise.... 46 time internationally capped, World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008 player, regular Champions League performer, 60 games over 2 seasons in Serie A ... quite clearly the most experienced big stage player in the squad.

....and a couple of moronic fans question his ability.....and probably don't even know who he is. SO he reacted accordingly.

The flowchart is technically incorrect because there are two paths saying "Yes" coming out of the "Does Gazzaniga make a howler?" bit. I appreciate that it would be factually incorrect if it had a "No" though :D maybe there could be a "Yes" followed by a coin-toss, with the outcome of that determining whether you go for Davies or Boruc?

It did make me laugh though. About quite a painful topic. Well done.

To be fair to Gazza, I think we have seen glimpses of a world class keeper arising. But he needs to play really regularly to be world class in the end though. Stick with Gazza. Hopefully it will be worthwhile.

We have seen one save that could be described as world class. I've not seen anything else to suggest he's going to be a world class keeper, as much as i would like to believe that.
