Saint Garrett Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Think I went to Peacocks, Tribeca and Heebie Jeebies last time I went out in Liverpool. Went to the pub next to the station before the Everton game, think it was the Crown or something.
Barry Sanchez Posted 27 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2012 The Crown yes, bit rough, better going into the City centre if you come into Lime St or walk up Hardman Street/Chinatown for a few.

jjsaint Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Went to the pub next to the station before the Everton game, think it was the Crown or something. The Crown's alright, and if I remember is open early. However I almost didn't make it out of the fabulous Ship and Mitre last time I was there. If you're a real ale drinker then look no further. I can also recommend(ish) some of the Okells pubs that are dotted around Liverpool. Okells is an IOM brewery who in my opinion do fantastic ale. Pubs can be a bit grotty though. Shroppie Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 I recommended the Ship & Mitre on the Away Fans thread and got ridiculed by someone with a total lack of appreciation of a decent pub and excellent pint. But I'll be going there. Definitely the best real ale choice.

Barry Sanchez Posted 27 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Might have to check it out on Saturday then !I am probably biased but Liverpool is the best night out bar none in the UK, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Leeds are all good though. Saint Garrett Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 I've done it 4 or 5 times having got a lot of mates from round there and agree it is a top top night.

Used to go there a lot for lunch, and was dragged there twice this year by some mates a few years older than me. I wasn't having a go at you specifically, more these people:-

Barry Sanchez Posted 27 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2012 I will be in the Arkles before the game, thats a good boozer but there is a house that apparently has started selling canned ale, supposed to be a right laugh as well. pap Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Here is a map of pubs worth visiting in the city centre. http://goo.gl/maps/9MjEp I like to start at the Philharmonic Rooms, work my way down towards Pilgrim Street and Roscoe Street, eventually heading toward Mathew Street. Few points of interest. Concert Square is your young person's place. I've marked MODO on the map for that. I wouldn't recommend that real ale enthusiasts go there. Mathew St pretty much caters for all ages, but is particularly suited to the 30+ crowd. Don't go to Rubber Soul. It's full of scals. I've got a real soft spot for the Grapes (Roscoe St) and the Hanover Hotel (Hanover St). Neither get particularly busy; both good stop-over points for further beers. Oddly enough; pretty much all the out of the way pubs have good real ales. They also have the added advantage of having women as patrons.
swannymere Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 The Arkles is a great pre-match pub, remember walking in there before a Saints evening game years ago and being bought a pint by a scouser because i couldn't get near the bar! Barry Sanchez Posted 27 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Grapes is a good pub, if people want a laugh after the game then Mathew St for the visitor and lads who want some possible overnight activities for sure, for people who want quiet go on Victoria Street as well, s****y but some class birds get up there as well if you got the money. Window Cleaner Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Friend of mine from school married a Liverpool publican's daughter, think they eventually took over the pub. Down Aigburth Drive somewhere, Victoria or Albert something like that.
Barry Sanchez Posted 27 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Albert on Lark Lane, there is the Victoria which is called the Arms in the Vale though, rather interesting pubs they are as well.
Window Cleaner Posted 27 November, 2012 Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Albert on Lark Lane, there is the Victoria which is called the Arms in the Vale though, rather interesting pubs they are as well. just can't remember, it was across the road from his flat when he was at Liverpool Uni, haven't seen him for donkey's years, doesn't appear on any social network either.. pity really, one of my best mates for about 15 years, we did Beechwood, Tauntons and Southampton Boys together. Barry Sanchez Posted 27 November, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2012 Could be either as there are students in both areas, the Albert is famous on the Lane, the Lane is a great place for people staying up here, about 10 boozers and bars and also good restaurants and 5 mins taxi from town, I will spend my Saturday night up there after the match probably.
