Sunday games. A pain if you have to travel

I travel from Weymouth to all home games and it was easy until this season and Sunday games. Yesterday took the biscuit. train to Poole then bus to Southampton (track work on Saturdays} One bus commissioned for 6.06 pm to Poole from Central Station to cater for around 200 passengers. eventually located a spokesperson from Network Rail, who advised us to get a train going in the opposite direction and alight at Parkway where buses to poole would be waiting. Fine, did that and the bus arrived at poole.........7 minutes after the normal connection had left (7.25 train) Could they not of held the train for the buses. British rail or whatever they call themselves these days should know there is a much bigger demand on matchdays but they are either incompetent or simply do not care. The point is, this is a regular occurence. Rant over.

As far as Network Rail are concerned, it is infinitely preferable to carry out engineering works on a Sunday when relatively few people travel than during the week when there are thousands of commuters (who pay the majority of the fares) standing in the aisles waiting to get to work.

So you are saying they dont need to provide a service for the NORMAL NOT REDUCED fares paid on Sundays??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have to provide a service, certainly, but I wouldn't expect them to go out of their way to rearrange work that would have been scheduled months ago (the game was only officially moved to the Sunday about 6-8 weeks ago) for the sake of what probably wasn't any more than a few hundred people who would travel from your part of the world.

Also, if you think your weekend fare isn't "reduced", try travelling the same journey at 7am during the week

I went to the game yesterday and as i live in Paris, got home at 3 in the morning (took the euro tunnel by car).

Saturday games are way better because it gives me the sunday to recover. I was at work this morning at 8:30 so it góes without saying that i m totally knackered right now. But the game yesterday was so worth it!

Well done to you my friend

Real committment

During the first spell in the |Prem at SMS, there used to be a coach coming up from Weymouth for all home games

Presume this doesnt happen any more.

Shame the club couldnt help organise with pick ups en route

This coach was still running when we were in the championship. The only reason it stopped was due to the guy who ran it. He went loopy. No one else took it up and now they get the train. There are still 20+ people going from Weymouth and Dorchester, and they have been going for the last 7 years.

I appreciate the problems with travelling on a Sunday for games with more expensive rail fares, line closures and Sunday service. However, it's normally away games that cause me the biggest headache travelling down from Scotland. The Spurs and Newcastle games being on a Sunday were a bonus for me as I managed to get a flight back up to Edinburgh on Sunday night. Saturday home games require an overnight stay and are obviously more expensive. So I'm hoping for a few more home Sunday games before the end of the season. :uhoh:
