samoakley Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Went to the game and finaly saw us win after going to the QPR Cov Away and Wolves Home seeing us lose lol. James and Rudi were not great for us in a defensive way there good with the ball but tryin 2 tackle and block crosses there not great at everytime reading played down the wings i was ****ting it but James played a quailty cross for BWPs goal and Rudi played some great passes and good battling untill the last 10-15mins wen he was shocking and winding up the home fans. Everyone else was amazing and had no faults IMO BWP looks good on the wing and Lallana is this boy ever going to come across someone who can stop him taking the ****? Went with a reading fan who before 2day said bekey was amazing he was awfull 2day.
Andy_Porter Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 I thought James and Rudi where both quality. Probably their best performances of the season although that isn't really saying much. Schneiderlin and Lallana where both immense, with Surman there we have a really good balance in midfield. If we can get Holmes back soon and if Gasmi gets fit then we will have a really strong midfield, one of the best in the league IMO. I think Surman is back to his best, last season I was very critical and I think Pearson made the correct decision to drop him but this season since he moved to midfield he's been very good. Was impressed with some of Robertsons play as well, hopefully we can make the Dyer/Robertson swap permanent as he gives us a bit of power and strength upfront that McGoldrick doesn't offer. Cabrone Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Yesterday was the first game I've been to this season and TBH I wasn't that bothered as I had all but lost my enthusiasm for SFC and I thought we'd be on the end of another depressing drubbing. By the time the final whistle went I had a smile a mile wide and was feeling actual excitement about the club again. We didn't just beat one of the promotion favorites on their own turf, we took the p**s for the majority of the match - both on and off the pitch. Infact I'm struggling to recall a game I've been to in the last 25 years where my expectations were as far exceeded as that one yesterday. Congratulations to players and fans - brilliant, simply brilliant. Now that I've seen that these boys can play some good stuff what they need to do is to take the confidence gained from this game and run with it. I'm crossing my fingers that yesterday was a breakthrough. It's sooooooooo good to actually feel good about this club for the first time in a long time!! Andy_Porter Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 We simply have to win on Tuesday, I hope we get a decent turn out. It's probably our biggest game of the season. A win and we will go into the Charlton game with bags of confidence. If we can get 6 points from the next two we will start looking up the league going towards Christmas, probably the most important part of the season to find form. Vital game on Tuesday, really will shape our season IMO.

15saints Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 I think this could be a long hard season...... but sod it we gave, probably, the best team in the league a spanking on their own patch and I celebrated like we had won the league. Just goes to show the tight margins football is down to. We played very well last week and lost by one, we played very well this week and won by one. I just wish we could forget our woes just for 24 hours perhaps and enjoy the moment. I'm sure I have (hence my late post). I don't think I have enjoyed a 24 hours quite so much for a long time and even though I feel like sh**e now I have no regrets and am still on a high. I will get back to being doom and gloom tomorrow and continue to bask in my teams glory for the rest of today. My man of the match Cork ably supported by Perry, with Scheiderlin and Lallana having honerable mentions and the remainder playing well. What about Scheiderlin's pass for the second goal - I do think he is going to be a great player. Very sad that some feel the need to pee on our bonfire, but I dare say they will remind their children that we are in a recession just as they are opening their Christmas presents - leave it till Boxing Day! Saint_clark Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Given that we're playing on Tuesday, I wouldn't have thought so either. On a serious note, it it aint broke, don't fix it. I would stick with that 11 that started the game against Plymouth. Don't run before you can walk

captainchris Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 The best result of the season by quite some distance. Like the Preston win though, this is absolutely meaningless unless it's built on. Plymouth are seventh tonight so Tuesday is by no means a certainty. Keep two up front though and we'll have a chance. I really hope that this means Poortvliet is starting to learn! I'm sorry but where did 442 come from. The formation was the same as usual if you ask me. Great win though and what a performance from the fans!

um pahars Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 I'm sorry but where did 442 come from. The formation was the same as usual if you ask me. Great win though and what a performance from the fans! I think it was down to the fact that DMG played "in the hole" as opposed to Lallana. When Lallana plays there he is much more mobile and plays all over the pitch, leaving McGoldrick isolated on too many occasions. Along with that, I don't think DMG is the man to lead the line on his own. Yesterday, Robertson led the line well and for most of the game looked a better option up there than DMG (still not convinced in the long run that Robertson is the answer). And at the same time, DMG didn't roam across the park, but instead played just off of Robertson, meaning Robertson wasn't isolated. A 4-4-1-1, but this time the 1-1 played much closer together almost being a 4-4-2 for most of the game.

Massive difference between McGoldrick and Robertson than Lallana and McGoldrick, same system but McGoldrick wasn't doing much defending and he was getting up close to Robertson. LGTL Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Fantastic day all round, our away from is actually very good. If we can improve the home form we should improve. Was nice to see two men upfront and thought it worked well.

A 4-4-1-1, but this time the 1-1 played much closer together almost being a 4-4-2 for most of the game. There seems to be a major misconception about the system we are SUPPOSED to play. 4 at the back with supporting full backs, 2 wide men working the lines and the far post, two central midfielders attacking and defending. A centre forward closely supported by the secondary striker. The players have hardly ever played this system properly. The wide men narrow and not tracking back. The secondary striker all over the place too far from the centre forward and not getting past the CF on runs. The CMs together with the wide men not tracking back and leaving the back 4 isolated with big gaps that the opposition usually capitalise on our far post as we run out of defenders. Marking loosely with the cover too far away has exposed us especially James. It seems that a lot of this was put right on Saturday. The formation has shape but is flexible and depending on the phase of play can look like anything you want to call it. The most important things are depth in defence, width and pace in attack to give penetration. This requires discipline and the mentality to bust a gut to either get forward in support or determination to get goalside in defence. We have not really been doing that, with the off the ball players strolling or trotting back and not making the effort to stay with opponents on their runs forward. Chez Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Just got back after a road trip to Yorkshire via Reading. If I was to give scores after the first half it would be 10 out of 10 for each and every player. Simply outstanding display from back to front. Davies didn't have a save to make, the back four won everything and passed extremely well. The midfield ran the show, showed great composure and creativity and up front we created chances a plenty. We ran them ragged and it could easily have been 2 or 3. The diving header chance that was saved would have been one of the greatest team goals I have ever seen, pass and move, skill on the ball, drawing the opposition in, a marvelous cross from Skacel and a great header. Tremendous. Dare I say it TOTAL Football. Thank god for the second goal though, because in the end we went to pieces in the second half. There was a ten minute spell when we were all over the place, hoofing it anywhere and under real pressure. Skacel feigned an injury to put a hault to the landslide and it needed a midfield leaderf to sort things out but no one stepped up. An offside saved us from an equaliser and nails were bitten towards the end. Fair play to the lads for holding out though and what a great win. Well deserved as we looked like the CCC promotion challengers not Reading and many of their fans said the same thing on the walk back to the car. Second half scores (first half are all tens) Davis 7 - great timewasting. Not many saves to make. Good claims. James 3 - hoofed it anywhere and it was his fault for the goal. Perry 10 - brilliant. Best display I have seen from a CB in years. Cork 10 brilliant. Reading hoofed it down the channels all day long and he was there every time. Skacel 7 Decent display but he gave up on one occasion which dumbfounded me. Schneiderlin 7 - he can tackle. More please. Surman 7 chased hard but ball bypassed midfield too much for him to control the game as he did in first half. Lallana 8 needed more ball but when he got it boy did he use it well. What a player this boy is. McGoldrick 6 went missing the longer the game went on. Robertson - 7 chased until he could run no more. BWP 7 great goal but did give it away a little too cheap now and then. Pattersen 9 kept the ball and tackled hard. Excellent cameo. I have been buzzing after the great display against Wolves and now I am off the scale. Luv it.
Arizona Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 I think you've got to give James a bit of credit. That was certainly a lot better than some performances I've seen from him. He did get the assisst for the first goal too. I also noticed Skacel stop a couple of times when the long ball went over him, but TBH I think they were trying to play the offside trap. It certainly worked a couple of times, like when Readin had a would be equaliser rightly disallowed. Glad I'm not the only one who thought DMG went missing a bit. It's a shame, because I thought he put a decent effort in against Wolves. Did look badly short of stamina in training though.
Professor Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 getting upset about the real threat of relegation and administration is like sticking your head in the sand...as that is where we are...we did make a little progress yesterday, like we did at preston....but it will not mean much if we lose against plymouth...ideally we have to start winning at home..if the players cant take a dose of realism then they should not be in the profession Absolute rubbish. Death is a certainty but we don't spend every day telling friends and family that we are all going to die!! The criticism of the negativity is absolutely spot on. Fortunately, administration is less of a threat this season because the board have made cost savings, (which the negatives constantly complain about), and within the budget available the club have acquired or borrowed some talented players to add to the home grown ones. Given that young players have more scope to improve than older ones, there is reason to believe the team can do better as the season goes on. But there are no guarantees in football so people who want certainty of success should try a different activity to being a football supporter. It certainly worked a couple of times, like when Readin had a would be equaliser rightly disallowed. no I am not talking about stopping to catch them offside I'm talking about a situation in the second half where Readign took a throw in towards the edge of our 18 yard box and after a couple of passes they played a one two and Skacel just stopped and gave up. It wasn't as though he thought someone else was tracking the guy he just stood still and acted like it wasn't his responsibility. I know I get on Skacel's back a bit, but I also credit the lad when credits due. Here he just could not be arsed and tried to make it look like it was BWP's fault. It matters not, but I know what I saw and this sort of thing just adds to my dislike of him. Add to that him constantly mooning at the linesman for supposed fouls that were never there (that's my job), the usual falling over at the mearest hint of a push when required and the feigning of injury to try and slow things down. I don't like any of those things even though they all help the side. Edited 24 November, 2008 by Chez
