LeMullet Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 First game I've been to this season. I cannot believe this is the team I get so frustrated with on teletext every week. They played like the result was never in doubt!! Don't think I've ever seen so many Cruyff turns in a Championship match - love it!!! Lallana is so damn good! Thought Rudi had a great game as well... Mr Dad Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 I took my 2 young sons to their first away game. I was worried that we might lose. My realistic hope was that we would only lose 2-0. A dream was a draw. But a win!!! The three of us are still peeling ourselves off the ceiling. Also, it wasn't a fluke. That was a well deserved win. Great support from the saints away fans. An outsied observer might have wondered who were the home fans. We were definately singing louder and more often. Show me a Saints fan who said that they didnt have a great day out and I'll show you a liar!! CORY. Looking forward to the Plymouth game.
Nexstar Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 Fantastic result lads. Im still smiling now. Lets have a win Tuesday now and im looking foward to my first away game against Charlton. Lets hope Pardew stays till next Saturday so we can get him the sack!!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/charlton_athletic/7744263.stm Couple of minutes too late i'm afraid! Carlos Fandango Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 You many be able to cling to this result come May if we go down, but personally I am a bit more ambitious than that. If you can't enjoy a result like today's from the team you are supposed to be a supporter of there is something wrong with you. Get a grip son. COYR!! Long Shot Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 Can I be first to say, only 9 points of Cardiff and 6th place? and 7 off bottom, so bottom and down by Christmas ain't happening IMHO! It was a great win and deserved too which makes it even more enjoyable but ffs we have simply got to keep our feet on the ground. If we don't beat Plymouth this brilliant win will count for nothing just as the Preston win evaporated after our subsequent home defeat to Bristol. Nick you know darn well we must continue to look down rather than up and we still have the problem that it is likely we will lose Lallana and Surman come January. My advice would be a quick couple of beers to celebrate, no crowing, no more predictions of turning corners (can't wait to see if Adam Leitch uses this phrase in Monday's Echo) and just make sure we build on this. There is a nucleus of a promising team at St Marys but we have got to start winning games at home to draw back the stay away fans before we even contemplate the top half of the table. Oh and I nearly forgot - Lowe out! Enjoy the glow this result has given us but lets not wallow to long.

SNSUN Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 Has there ever been a season when we were better away than at home? I could not have predicted today's result in a hundred tries, but I'm very happy. Let's hope we maintain it.
Secret Site Agent Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 I must say that I am chuffed. As nuts, to be honest. This is the kind of thing that we are capable of, and with BWP who I though was on the slide down, Very ipressed. If we can just for a minute keep their confidence up. We are season ticket holders an they've had plenty of disapointment at St Marys recently. It was a great day out. Far removed from the away games that I remember back in the 70/80's where it was in no way suitable for a child. By the way. Draino76 Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 A real raw football experience. From the Train to Reading, the 3 guiness (spl.lol) and the commaradary(spl.lol), the love and hate mix of the Reading fans, the celebration of BWP and his bond with the fans was all there. Man City and Leeds come close; but OUR FANS ARE WHAT MAKE SFC LIKE NO OTHER CLUB.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 Happy days! Didn't see this coming at all - shame on me! - but what a fantastic result given our current plight. I feel this will be the story of our season with so many youngsters in the team - great results against the top boys and frustrating defeats against the dross. My jubilation was such that I managed to teach my 2 1/2 year old to shout 'Bradley Wright Wright Wright'!
percy windham Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 so glad i went up now, fantastic perfomance. I thought Schneiderlin and Lallana were fantastic, seemed to link up so well. Bradley played well too, but MOTM would be Cork or Perry. both held the defence together so well and looked very assured.

austsaint Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 Winning against the odds makes it all a little sweeter, doesn't it! Fantastic to wake up to a result like this. The team sheet had a good look of balance to it. It's been a great 24 hours for the underdog.....NZ beating Oz in the League Final was a sweet result too....about 6k Great Britain supporters in the crowd, all barracking for NZ. How did Rudi play?; can we keep Lallana? Well done BWP...he's copped a lot of stick....I just wish that ex-pats could see Saints produce an effort like this on a SKY game. Tremendous admiration for all fans who travelled.

SaintSparky Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 Wonderful performance and a thoroughly deserved three points; what a cracking day out too. Sad Sam Posted 22 November, 2008 Share Posted 22 November, 2008 What a fantastic day out. Took my Grandson for our first ever away game and I'm still smiling. Was absolutely bricking it for the last 20 minutes, but well done to the boys for holding out. When Doyle headed it over started to relax cos it wasn't going to be their day, but still thought we would self destruct. Great to see so many fans so genuinely happy to win. Definitely an experience to be repeated!
Northant Saint Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Completely gob-smacked. I was on a Christmas market this afternoon, so it took a while for the result to get through my Gluehwein-enduced fug. I am as delighted as anyone at this result. Reading's first defeat at home - amazing. But this time, unlike the Preston result, it has to be followed through to the next game, or it will count for nothing. I also find it a crying shame that pathetic little winnets like Hypochondriac and Northant Saint have to turn this into some sort of personal abuse, like I would be pleased at losing. Suffice to say it makes them look very foolish, especially as both of them deep down were probably expecting to lose too. Sorry Alps but I'm incredibly chuffed about the win today, and to be honest I absolutely love it when we win after I have been reading your hugely negative posts just the night before. COYR'S!!! NY Saint Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 But why, really ? Players, managers even chairmen have come and gone. What's the source of it ? It implies that a given manager does not have the ability to mentally prepare the players for every game correctly, but this situation has afflicted loads of managers at SFC. Alpine I gave you the benefit of the doubt again tonight, you appeared to post a positive, nay celebratory post that supported this club on reading the result, but as with everything Saints related you pick it apart until the pleasure has been removed. Tonight I'm grateful that I'm healthy, my family and friends are safe and secure, I've had another positive, fun day and Saints have won against the odds. I feel sorry for anyone that has the displeasure to be related to you by blood, marriage or other acquaintance. I honestly believe you are a miserable human being that takes pleasure in supporting other people's misfortune. I have no interest in reading or understanding what makes you such a disappointing human being and hope for the sake of others that you are not a parent/mentor. You are a failed human and a disgrace to my friends that have died.

Professor Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 Its still only one result, and we may feel its cancelled out the next time we lose a game we should win, but the fact is that its 3 real points and every point is gold dust at the moment. Its raised hopes again that JP can get the team to improve consistently, and its encouraging that there are still other players in the squad that could yet strengthen yesterday's side. The dream? Just 3 wins in succession. Is that too much to hope for?
bungle Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 DMG - 5 The only poor performance really. Just didn't seem to put much effort in. Andy_Porter Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 The support yesterday was spot on, the same again from the lads on Tuesday and we will be fine. Schneiderlin was a different class, he really is a superb player. He will be a very good player in the future, no suprise that Arsenal want him after his performance yesterday, for the first 70 or so minutes he won everything and his distribution was very good. Far too good for this league. Chris Perry, Jack Cork, Rudi Skacel and Lloyd James where all good as well, the two full backs both really got forward to help the attack out. I was most impressed with James it was probably his best performance of the season.

Andy_Porter Posted 23 November, 2008 Share Posted 23 November, 2008 We're a counter attacking side so we're going to be better away from home. I think a lot of the home fans are too impatient as well, sometimes when things aren't going our way people are too quick to jump on the players for a miss placed pass, poor shot etc.
