Dannyboy_Saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Un-freaking-believable!!! Well done Saints you've given me something to smile about this weekend. Cant wait to get into work Tuesday and see what my Reading fan workmate has to say!
jasonbenali Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Poor old Will Cope; his voice started to break as the result got to him. Excellent performance, and strangely, I was semi-confident of Saints once the first goal went in. This is the sort of performance the youngsters are capable of, as long as the silly mistakes are cut out. Let's not go overboard on one result, but this is a significant one. Well done Jan and the players, for getting the tactics dead right. Let's go overboard - it's been a very long time and well worth getting carried away about. We will walk this league! Had a bet on 3 goals in this game, but certainly wasn't expecting Saints to provide 2 of them - get in! Text from friend there, simply said 'Wow'. Enough said, great result.
SimonRichards Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 For the second time inmany years I didn't listen to the radio and we one. The last tim I did that was against Preston. Well done lads. 4 4 2 at home please Jan.
Window Cleaner Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 are you watching alpine saint? aaaarrrreeee you watching alpine saint? LOLOLOLOLOL But it's not just Alpine Saint is it? Some of us kept the faith .
corsacar saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Magnificent result[totally unexpected, I thought we would beat Wolves and lose heavily today]. However as with the Preston result it will count for nothing if we lose at home to Plymouth.
ottery st mary Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 But it's not just Alpine Saint is it? Some of us kept the faith . Yeah I am right there with you windows we always knew what we were talking about us luvvies..Your great mate.

Well done lads. 4 4 2 at home please Jan. You sure it was 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 being properly worked, should hardly notice the difference when the two front men are interchanging.
John B Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 You sure it was 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 being properly worked, should hardly notice the difference when the two front men are interchanging. The OS said it was the usual JP formation Now I want Nottm F and Norwich to Draw
SuperMikey Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 F*CKING YESSSSSSSS! I'm bummed that I didn't go now!
saintjay77 Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 GET THE F IN YOU BEAUTY!!!!! Happy days.
jawillwill Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Blimey, its true, we Saints fans really don't know anything about football! Then again we know more than the Reading lot! http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=82390 8-0?!
Micky Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Shows how much I know about football - FA....!!!! Great result, well done boys... why oh why are we so inconsistent....?? I'm off to digest large lumps of humble pie... have a good evening all...!!!
Dubai Saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Apperitivo time! Saints fans from Ampshire to the Alps to Dubai give an audible sigh of relief and head off to the pub, bar, fridge for a well deserved nerve tonic. See you later guys!:-)) I can verify the Dubai bit.
badgerx16 Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 At last a match where we turned our dominance into a result ; just looked at the BBC match stats, 57% posession, 9 to 3 shots on target, 10 to 4 shots off target. If only, for once, we can make it two good games in a row on Tuesday. COYR
ottery st mary Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 GET THE F IN YOU BEAUTY!!!!! Happy days. You brought the team good luck by returning to Gods country to-day..Thats Southampton not The English Riveria.. Great Great feeling when we win..More of the same and I might be turned again...Mind you I will have to square it with the MRS first. COYR I am even friends with johnb nickg and windows for the day.
itchen Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Magnificent result[totally unexpected, I thought we would beat Wolves and lose heavily today]. However as with the Preston result it will count for nothing if we lose at home to Plymouth. Well no. It will count for three points that we didn't really expect to get. But I agree 6 would be better and 9 if we can beat Charlton too will be better still.

I am always friends with you Mary but dont often agree with your Anti Lowe rants . I hope that we are going to win a few more games now I feel the team is improving and with a little luck we could be gradually moving up the table Edited 22 November, 2008 by John B
Islander Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Brilliant result - can't believe it. Well done Saints and especially Bradley for his goals - about time! And well done to all the fans who went up - your support was superb.
Wildgoose Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Totally shocked when I heard the score on the radio with half an hour to go.......was concerned we'd concede late goals but they never came. Absolutely brilliant result!!!!! Well done Saints. Have a good evening everyone :-)
Barney Trubble Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 We just beat the best team in the league away! doesn't get better than this! Add that to a very unlucky defeat against top of the league last week and it illustrates that we are only two experienced players from being a very good team. I have no worries that we can rise up this league as Wolves were not a superior side to us last week either.
badgerx16 Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Well done Saints. Have a good evening everyone :-) The wife's team are Man City, so I'm sure we will
slickmick Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 ha ha ha, I just knew we would win today, always said bwp was class .
St Landrew Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Good luck Ericofarabia, with the Radio Hampshire golden goal time. Apparently, you predicted 13 minutes, and it was 14. I think you're in with an excellent shout.
slickmick Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Well no. It will count for three points that we didn't really expect to get. But I agree 6 would be better and 9 if we can beat Charlton too will be better still. Charlton fans walked out with 30 mins to go according to ssn, pressure will be on them next week. Another away win for us.
Faz Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 are you watching alpine saint? aaaarrrreeee you watching alpine saint? LOLOLOLOLOL Well he can't can he, from Austria. It does not, however, stop him providing insightful comment on how crap we played when we lose. I'm sure he'll have a view on how we performed today. Great win, but I suspect we are in for further lows and highs. Good innit??
Mr saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Charlton fans walked out with 30 mins to go according to ssn, pressure will be on them next week. Another away win for us. I actually think the Charlton game could prove to be one of the most important of the season. No doubt we won't do things the easy way, but I'd give anything for 3 points there!
St Landrew Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Good luck Ericofarabia, with the Radio Hampshire golden goal time. Apparently, you predicted 13 minutes, and it was 14. I think you're in with an excellent shout. Hard luck mate. Just missed out. Went to a fan from Shirley. The prize was 2 tickets to the Plymouth game anyway, so you wouldn't have been able to collect.
Mr Saints Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Even more suprised tonight than I was the evening after the Preston game. Get the **** in there.
Lowestoft-Saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 A fantastic result and well done to all the 4000 supporters who made the effort and kept the faith, (wish i still lived in Alton, id of been there as well). I think the result and the performance againt probably one of the best teams in the league just goes to show what our youngsters are capable of, and with time & paitence I hope this sort of performance becomes the norm. Everyone at the club deserves a bit of credit and applause instead of all the negativity thats thrown in thier direction from certain posters from this forum. I guess thats wishful thinking because no doubt they will find something to be negative about within 24hrs, but for now A BIG FECKING UP YOURS
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Fantastic win lads..well done. Shame how some saddos on here turn on someone who has different views but deep down you all thought (if you are honest) we would lose today as i did but did not actualy post to say it. Come lads and ladies lets cut the crap and just enjoy a rare, fantastic success as we could all be brought down to earth with a bang again soon.
1976_Child Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Oh My God! I have just got back to my car. I just have to power up the laptop and get this off my chest: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GET IN THERE MY SAINTS!!!!! Christ, I've been sitting in amongst the most hard-core of the Reading Faithful trying very hard to not make a sound and leave the ground alive. Trust me, if you want to test your poker face do what i just did. We beat Reading, I'm pretending to be a reading supporter and all along just wanted to jump up and down and tell them that our super, super Saints have beaten their crappy mob. YESSSSSSSS FINALLY I GET TO SHOUT ABOUT IT..... (and now for the drive home before my car gets its windows smashed....) WELL DONE LADS! QUALITY FOOTBALL, GREAT RESULT!!!
EFM Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 ha ha ha, I just knew we would win today, always said bwp was class . Personally I thought we would get absolutely annihilated and have always thought BWP was a waste of space! What a great way to be proved wrong! Radio Royals (whatever) were astounded at how good we were and couldn't remember a time (including their long spell in the Premiership LOL) when an away side had come and attacked them like that. Now did that arrogant twxt of a Reading fan ("Winchester") join as full member and if so can you full members bombard him with PMs please.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 ha ha ha, I just knew we would win today, always said bwp was class . Yeah back of the class normally - but well done today BWP .
saint si Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Just got back (i live local). Great game, cracking result! Ref absolutely bottled a stonewall penalty first half, but that's just par for the course now... We really dug in when they got one back. Looked rocky for a few minutes, but stood firm after that. Looking forward to the normal gloating Reading fans at work on Monday :-D
HEBRIDEAN SAINT Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 The official Reading site has been very fair and says we well deserved our win. http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1463315,00.html
LVSaint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Incredible. Just woke up after deciding to give the commentary a miss for this week. Hats off to the most inconsistent team in the league! Get in!
sadoldgit Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 are you watching alpine saint? aaaarrrreeee you watching alpine saint? LOLOLOLOLOL LOL, he will keep his head down for a few days no doubt. He and the other wrist slitters must be gutted. So the end of the world is postponed a little longer... It is still going to be a long hard season but there is no reason why we can't get some more decent results like this and end up mid table.
Danny Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Now did that arrogant twxt of a Reading fan ("Winchester") join as full member and if so can you full members bombard him with PMs please. The Reading forum where he came from has been a great read today! http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/index.php
alpine_saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Completely gob-smacked. I was on a Christmas market this afternoon, so it took a while for the result to get through my Gluehwein-enduced fug. I am as delighted as anyone at this result. Reading's first defeat at home - amazing. But this time, unlike the Preston result, it has to be followed through to the next game, or it will count for nothing. I also find it a crying shame that pathetic little winnets like Hypochondriac and Northant Saint have to turn this into some sort of personal abuse, like I would be pleased at losing. Suffice to say it makes them look very foolish, especially as both of them deep down were probably expecting to lose too.
John Cool Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Radio Royals (whatever) were astounded at how good we were and couldn't remember a time (including their long spell in the Premiership LOL) when an away side had come and attacked them like that. They don't like it up 'em!
NickG Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Enjoy the victory, this feeling is what supporting saints means! Two conseq away league victories -doesn't happen that often
Baird of the land Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Just got back from the game. Firstly we werent playing 442. It was the same formation we've been playing all season just with robertson and bwp out wide mcgoldrick actually had some support. We were brilliant from the first minute, passing and moving the ball effortessly. Wwent a bit jittery when they scored. Had my head in my hands only to see the linos flag on their offside second goal. then we worked our socks off to hold on for the last 20. The quality of some of the football we played was outstanding. Sneiderlin and surman were a joy to watch in midfield. Lallana is so gifted its scary. In the end they stopped trying to play football and resorted to lumping the ball upfield which would have worked on another day. This day though perry & Cork were immense at the back Davis 8 (solid, caught one peach of a dangerous cross) James 7 (glad they had hunt against him rather than someone with pace who might have exposed him) Skacel 7 (I'm tempted to give him a 8 Perry 8 (i was sure this cb pairing were going to get nailed by doyle but they dealt with Cork 8 him superbly & did remarkably well aerially as well) surman 9 (i love surman playing midfield in this formation. Such a good player. Sneiderlin 8 Lallana 8 (all the skills BWP 9 (2 goals, one header what else has to be said) Mcgoldrick 7 (played well but needs to finish better) robertson 7 (very good in first half but faded. should have finsihed better too)
Stanley Saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 I hate getting drawn into the bit-chier end of things on here, but the fact that so many posters (especially in mountainous regions) took such evident delight in predicting a 5 or 6 nil thrashing today, made the performance and victory even sweeter to those of us who know that we've actually played some superb football this season and got nought for it. C'mon saints, break that home-hoodoo on Tuesday!
alpine_saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Why has Southampton Football Club always lost to crap, but then prevailed against opposition expected to murder us ?
John B Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Why has Southampton Football Club always lost to crap, but then prevailed against opposition expected to murder us ? Because Football is a funny old game. And our team is improving
Leicestersaint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 Why has Southampton Football Club always lost to crap, but then prevailed against opposition expected to murder us ? They've been like this for the last 50 years so it's fairly ingrained.
alpine_saint Posted 22 November, 2008 Posted 22 November, 2008 They've been like this for the last 50 years so it's fairly ingrained. But why, really ? Players, managers even chairmen have come and gone. What's the source of it ? It implies that a given manager does not have the ability to mentally prepare the players for every game correctly, but this situation has afflicted loads of managers at SFC.
