John Boy Saint Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Nice bit of time wasting yesterday from the boys to run down the clock. The word must be out on Gazza and his dodgy 80 minute shoe laces as the ref made a point of holding his watch in the air in his direction, then Lallana or Cork went over to the ref for a bit of chat distracting him from his watch. Then Luke Shaw, when he knew he was up for subbing, as Newcastle made their substitution backed himself right over to the Kingsland touchline under the premise of taking a drink from the bottles there then had to slowly trot the width of the pitch to change with Jos.
Saint Garrett Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Noticed this a few times this season. We're certainly wising up to the Premiership.

The Shaw sub made me laugh because whilst the ass ref was inputting the sub numbers into hos board the saints coach shouted to shaw and gestured for him to go to the touchline on the far side prior to the number being raised.
Badger Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Game management! Thats only when we do it. Opponents, such as Poyet, are just cheating timewasting bastards

dubai_phil Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Thats only when we do it. Opponents, such as Poyet, are just bastards that reads better
Barry Sanchez Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 I think he did it for Shaw so he could be clapped off and make an impression on the youngster, if so good management.
Badger Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 that reads better Yes, indeed, I had him in mind when writing it.
Colinjb Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 I think he did it for Shaw so he could be clapped off and make an impression on the youngster, if so good management. A convenient side-effect!
pingwing Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 We also had the assistant wasting more time getting ready to sub Punch for Myuka, he was all stripped off and ready to come on at the 88th min then Adkins changed his mind just before the ref allowed the sub to happen. Gazza's routines always make me laugh with the big bending down to tie his shoes. It's good there is a big applause for Shaw too, been a good lad so far with his Prem outings (after the stevenage let down)
Shroppie Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Gazza's routines always make me laugh with the big bending down to tie his shoes. It's also the time he takes to get his gloves off, then carefully put them back on again afterwards. I was also impressed with our ballboy who managed to (accidently) kick the ball away just as their keeper was collecting it for a quick goal kick. Think he actually nutmegged the keeper. Very good.
Jez Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 The Shaw sub made me laugh because whilst the ass ref was inputting the sub numbers into hos board the saints coach shouted to shaw and gestured for him to go to the touchline on the far side prior to the number being raised. I laughed at that too. Though Shaw jogged off way quicker than Lambert trudged off!
Baldbarbarian Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 its all very well Gazza doing his bootlace thing, but the Ref will just add time on at the end. Its not the first time Gazza has done it this season. It reminds me of old Italian teams, using timewasting tactics, it can be a good thing.

Well, I see what you are saying, but there is no way it would have been any less then 4 minutes of extra time. The 'game management' therefore worked beautifully.
Baldbarbarian Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 I think we need to run the clock down during those 4 extra minutes, although it appeared many left when the board was put up for additional time anyway!
saint si Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 It's not all about using up time either. It's also about just killing the momentum of the game and stopping the opposition building up any sustained pressure. Ding up shoelaces, making subs etc all helps with that.
mcjwills Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Loved the way you can waste time taking the gloves off and putting them back on after the shoelace tying
John Boy Saint Posted 26 November, 2012 Author Posted 26 November, 2012 Loved the way you can waste time taking the gloves off and putting them back on after the shoelace tying I am quite surprised that the ref did not tell someone to go and help him.
Give it to Ron Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 I am quite surprised that the ref did not tell someone to go and help him. Well going by his performance in the game I don't think he could see that far.
JustinR Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Loved the way you can waste time taking the gloves off and putting them back on after the shoelace tying I watched Gazza in the warm up and was very impressed that he managed to tie his laces with his gloves ON.
70's Mike Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Glad to see us becoming Street wise, definitely not something to criticise
Window Cleaner Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 I watched Gazza in the warm up and was very impressed that he managed to tie his laces with his gloves ON. probably why they came undone after 80 minutes then.
Saint Garrett Posted 26 November, 2012 Posted 26 November, 2012 Glad to see us becoming Street wise' date=' definitely not something to criticise[/quote'] This Can't say I like it but everyone time wastes in this league. It's all part of the game now.
