Hedge End Ranger Posted 26 November, 2012 Share Posted 26 November, 2012 Hi all, difficult to tell from what I saw of yesterdays game, but have we stopped using the Zonal Defending system? Thanks

Saint_clark Posted 26 November, 2012 Share Posted 26 November, 2012 As far as I could tell we stopped using it a while back. For evidence from yesterday, watch the free header Demba Ba gets in that goes straight at Gazza (it's only on Sky match choice). Lambert is marking him and runs with him from the near post to the edge of the box, getting blocked off along the way.
pingwing Posted 26 November, 2012 Share Posted 26 November, 2012 No, it's still zonal but we are a lot better at paying attention to the zones of who's running into them. The zonal thing is starting to be pushed across the pitch a bit too, you can see where everyone has zones they are responsible for both attacking and defending. It's just taken a few extra games of a stable line up for it to start working properly.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 November, 2012 Share Posted 26 November, 2012 We stopped using total zonal marking ages ago. Now we man mark the main threats with a few zonal players to cut out balls at the near post etc.
