top marks all round! hadr to fault anyone but a special mention to gazza - puncheon continuing excellent form is one thing - gazza producing two very good saves (one really top class) at quite important times was crucial to the victory and showed good charachter. to think that couldve been saggy chops first game in charge for us and not another stylish performance for Niges boys

I have no clue about the "Who picks the team" debate.......Now, though, I am seriously wondering and leaning towards the notion that NA has now been given what he needs and actually WAS being interfered with before to a degree that was harmful to the team.

Welcome on board; it really wasn't that much of a bizarre notion.

He also has a fit squad with Shaw and Cork - both playing well, and Ramirez... class act.

Confidence rising!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NA is a great manager!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Southampton! Great result AND a magnificent perfromance. Now... we must push on with another good result and hopefully good performance against Norwich, who I am sure will put up more of a fight than Newcastsle did.. we shall have to be at our best to win.. COYR

I have seen Norwich a few times this season. Very tough to break down but might be missing their goalkeeper Ruddy, as he has a groin strain.

If he cannot play this will make a big difference as he has been on top form.

Well done again Nige, 3 games unbeaten and 7 points doing it his way. A top performance from everyone. As well as being very dangerous going forward and could have had 5 or 6 what impressed me was the amount of times we won back possession with tenacious tackling. Cork and Puncheon we outstanding at that and an unbelievable save from Gazzaniga.

So are we still on the yo-yo plan, Dalek?

(I am not taking the p!ss. I admire your line in the sand commitment to an issue).

Yes. Same as ever. Of course we will try and stay up, that has always been the case, but we have a planned for the possibility of going down and then bouncing back down. That is why we have invested in good young players who are in it for the long term.

Touch of a hangover from last night on a personal level, but this result helped! I got to meet my first SaintsWeb member yesterday too. (Hello Hatch, hope your hangover isn't too bad!) All in all a good weekend.

A win against Norwich (which I hope to be going to) and we'll have 14 points from 14, and averaging a point a game in our first season back in the top flight is really what we should be aiming for. That's also mean 3 wins on the bounce and 4 games unbeaten, and suddenly we're looking comfortable. However a win is no given, Norwich will be potentially a tougher prospect than Newcastle. Fingers crossed we get a positive result.

Great win, great performance by the sounds f it and great confidence boost.

Win the next game and we'll be on a 40 point trajectory, that's where we need to be.

TBH we are doing better than I thought we would at this stage, I really thought the vicious start to the season would take it's toll on our morale but we've really bounced back brilliantly.

btw I have to add that Newcastle were really poor today even with all the absentees, never looked like scoring let alone winning the game. they are on a very poor run of form and it's not like theyve been playing the likes of city and united. if this slump continues, they're going to get dragged into a relegation scrap and it's not like they can change the manager, pardew's got 8 years on his contract ffs!

From the BBC Report

"Forward pair Rickie Lambert and LALLANA, two players Pardew had SIGNED for Southampton, and playmaker Ramirez were the inspiration for the home side's win. "

What a bunch of muppets!

Oh....Forget my last post. Selective and totally invented history rules the roost.

Fantastic performance, best I've seen us play in a long long time.

Gaston was immense, both in getting back and breaking up Newcastle in midfield and in providing an attacking outlet that they just couldn't deal with.

Great to keep a clean sheet.

Officiating was abysmal, even worse than when we played Leeds a few years ago and managed to win 1-0 somehow a few years ago.
