Pilchards Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 According to the people this morning Di Matteo is waiting in the wings if Adkins fails in the next two matches. Nothing new their I know but I never knew it was him that alerted Cortese about Saints in the first place. Interesting!! I hope Adkins turns it around as he deserves success, but it's also exciting that someone like Di Matteo could take charge if he don't.
Doctoroncall Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 Not a great record of sustainability with either WBA or Chelsea.
Professor Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 Wouldn't want a European Championship winning manager, or a cup winning manager here, after all it could mean having a team that might get into the top six in the Prem. At the moment supporters of other clubs like us because we are ****e and take pity on us, whereas if we started to be a threat to the established top sides it wouldn't be long before we were hated. westmidlandsaint Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 I don't think you can blame Di Matteo for sustainability that's more down to the 2 nut job chairman. At WBA he got them promoted to the prem and didn't have a great start to life in the prem and the chairman against the wishes of most baggies fans wielded the axe. At Chelsea he won the champions league & FA Cup and he got the sack for not playing Torres, if Adkins does go, I'd have him in a heartbeat

However I think RDM's stock may be too high for us - I think he's likely to get offers from bigger/richer clubs, esp in Serie A. He won the CL FFS. All depends on how much he wants to stay in England I guess.

KelvinsRightGlove Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 I'm not entirely sure how much it was him that won the Champions League. I think he was unifying figure, that helped galvanise morale post AVB, and he deserves credit for that. However I have a feeling Terry, Lampard & Drogba were calling a lot of the shots. I could be wrong, as I say, it's just my feeling. Looking at WBA, their progress since his departure has been pretty much 'up and to the right'. Doubt too many now are still mourning the loss of Robbie. He did a decent job at MK Dons, and I'm sure he will have a decent career, I just find it hard to take too much on anybody from their time at Chelsea. He inherited the team he won with, and reverted to a style employed by mourinho, largely with his players. Yes he won the two cups, but was still not great in the league (6th). He had (IMO) little input on transfer policy, does any manager there? And it seems he was given instructions on team selection.

I didn't realise him and Cortese were pals. Interesting. As I've said before I'd like to see us stick with Adkins. I think recent performances have been better. I still believe that right now he can keep us up.

Turkish Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 And who was the poster who said earlier this week, before any of these reports, that was sneered out for saying a member of the Chelsea board had told him that he was lined up in the summer if he didn't get the Chelsea job and not to rule out this happening now? WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 If we don't beat either Newcastle or Norwich at home I think it is nailed on that NA will lose his job and Di Matteo replacing him is very likely if that happens . Hope we win and NA is here for years to come
Fan The Flames Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 So it is exciting to replace our manager for struggling in the prem after gaining promotion in second place for a manager who was replaced by his club for struggling in the prem after gaining promotion in second place. All because he was caretaker boss of one of the richest clubs in the world. I can see why the chairman may want him, Swiss Italian and all that. But I cant see why people think he is that much better than NA.
Kingsland Red Posted 25 November, 2012 Share Posted 25 November, 2012 Just because Abramovich likes to change managers every season, it needn't become a trend we have to follow. Stabilty has to count for something, rather than sack the perfectly good incumbent manager a the first tricky period of a season. Keep up the good work Nigel ! Those two posts above suggest to me they would be up for the change whether there was a vacancy or not, however if that passes your test I don't know or give a f#ck. You my friend are just one in a long line of c#nts who frequent this board who have to boost their low self worth by coming on here and puffing their chests out.
