saint_sinner Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 davis for me! Gazza is out of his depth, Boruc is overweight. Davis is the consummate pro and was inspirational last season. You dont just become a bad keeper over night and I think he should be given another chance.
Dig Dig Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 You don't become a premier league quality keeper over night either and Davis has never been that despite how good he's been for us in the past
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 I'm going to offer myself to Saints as a cost saving. I'm overweight (bye Artur), I'll probably drop the ball or make a game changing mistake during the game (bye Gazza) and I'll probably be beaten at my near post and won't reach shots in the corners (bye Kelv). I'm hoping we can use the money saved to improve the catering.
Pilsmer Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 I'd have no problem with Davis getting another chance. He does deserve it and unlike the other two, we know all about him - his strengths and his weaknesses. I don't think he will get another chance any time soon though. I'm not convinced by Gazza at all and I agree that people are willing to give him some slack that they're not willing to give Boruc. I'm also not convinced by arguments that Gazza is the reason that the defence is looking more comfortable recently. The last two games have seen the return of Cork and the introduction of Shaw. Maybe the reason for the improvement in our defensive performances are the result of an improved, settled back four and more support from the midfield. I can't see that the poor decision making that Gazza has shown with crosses, etc - not to mention the terrible pass to Yoshi in the Swansea match - can serve to instill confidence in the defence. I think Boruc has the pedigree to be a top signing for us (based on his previous acheivements) but only if Nige and the staff can get him match fit. I don't mind that he seems to be an absolute nutter, in fact I admire that in a keeper.

JustinR Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 Just listened to Adkins press conference in full... he said that Gazza needs to be allowed to make mistakes/ he's the one with the jersey/ he will change things round if the same mistakes keep happening. He said the attitude of all 3 has been "bang on" So Gazza will be in goal Sunday

melmacian_saint Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 I really don't know why Gazza shaved his hair. At least shave it completely! One of my female housemates fell in love with him when we watched the West Brom game on Sky. Reckon she won't be so in love with him now That said, I do back Gazza. But to be fair I agree that he should be getting a loan out in the Championship now or be more involved with the development squad.
Zlavik Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 I will explain my view on things. Everton Gazza http://www.caughtoffside.com/2012/09/29/video-everton-3-1-southampton-premier-league-highlights/ 1st goal, fine he can't do anything. 2nd goal, what is he doing? He should go out and challange the player. Very bad positioning. 3rd goal, he shouldnt have moved so much to the left. Hard to say that he would have saved the 2nd attempt even if he would have stayed though. And I'm not saying that Boruc would have either. Fulham Gazza http://theoriginalwinger.com/2012-10-07-video-southampton-vs-fulham-highlights-goals-premier-league 1st goal, Hooiveld. Gazza can't do anything there. 2nd goal, can't do anything about it. West Ham Boruc 1st goal, hard to say really. Ball should never be allowed to bounce in that area and Boruc was ready for a touch from someone. 2nd goal, defence should get there first. Had control over his goals position and would have saved it if it would have been on target. 3rd goal, penalty is never the goaltenders fault. 4th goal, what can he do? Tottenham Boruc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eToC-xY9_CY First highlight, Boruc makes a nice save. 1st goal, Clyne makes an error and it is a nice header. What can he do? 2nd goal, Challenges the player and get beaten. Made the right choice. If Clyne would have ran all the way back it might have been a whole other story. WBA Gazza http://www.jazayer.com/west-brom-2-0-southampton-all-highlights-and-goals/ 1st goal, he can't do anything about that one. 2nd goal, he can't do anything about it. Swansea Gazza http://www.eplmatches.com/2012/11/10/southampton-vs-swansea-highlights/ Only goal, completely Gazzas fault. QPR Gazza http://www.fullhighlights.com/2012/11/qpr-1-3-southampton-highlights.html Only goal, should have done better with it. Looked nervous the whole game. I can't say that Boruc has been great. What I will say is that he hasn't been bad in any of the games he's played. Gazza has been bad against Everton, Swansea and QPR. I'd say that we give Boruc a shot. Boruc is more composed and can command the defence, he did so against Tottenham when he ordered them to go up so he could shoot the ball forward when we were pushing for an equalizer. Boruc is an international goaltender and to choose a goaltender that really hasn't had a great game over him is absurd. Especially when Boruc hasn't been bad in any game. Ofc Gazza should be in the goal if he is the best goaltender, I however feel that he is not. This is my view on the case, sorry for the long post. raynesparksaint Posted 23 November, 2012 Share Posted 23 November, 2012 Everyone in the game knows stability is the key to a good defence, a back four and a keeper that have had consistent game-time together and understand each other positionally. Particularly with our defensive record, chopping and changing keepers each week isn't going to breed that understanding within the defence. I know the Premier League is not the ideal place to keep having to learn from mistakes but I honestly think with a run in the team, Gazza will gain confidence and we'll see less of those errors. Of the 3 keepers, he is by the strongest in terms of kicking and agility. The Swansea mistake was more to do with poor decision-making rather than accuracy in his kicking, which is the type of mistake that can be eradicated over time. We're unbeaten in the last two and the back four are showing signs of beginning to look up to the task. I know it sounds obvious but a clean sheet would do the whole defence a world of good, it's been long overdue!

Window Cleaner Posted 24 November, 2012 Share Posted 24 November, 2012 Dumb question with an more than likely obvious answer but why are we playing Sunday at three? It's not on sky because Newcastle played on Thursday evening ?? It's standard practice to move games back a day. ie if we were playing today we'd probably play Norwich on Tuesday and not Wednesday.
