I think I'd quite like to be Finnish.

- High standards of living, education, health care etc.

- They're all sh*t hot drivers.

- Women appear to be by and large quite tidy.

- Proper winters with snow and stuff.

- They know how to drink

- Close proximity to Sweden, the Baltics and Russia

The high suicide rate wouldn't bother you then? -- approx 2.5 times as high as in the UK. Doesn't tend to suggest it's a happy place to live.

Having dual nationality, I get to choose every day when I wake up. Having 2 driving licences is a bit of a bonus, wherever I get stopped I only ever have a foreign licence. Funnily enough I haven't got any points. Only drawback in the UK is that you can't pay a fixed penalty with a foreign licence, you have to go to Court.

Always had a penchant for Sweden, Norway and Finland - don't ask me why. Never been but look forward to discovering these at some point

you try living here...yep its a great society to live in and bring your family up...but the polical correctness, the cold, the darkness, the never ending winters. Bigbummer!

the summers though, then the place is unbeatable. Shame they only last a month or two.

Proud to be born british. Wouldn't have minded to have been brought up in Aus though. Loved the place.

All very good points, but surely they can't lose for a third time.

Lets hope it doesn't come to that. ;)

For what it's worth, they seem to be winning at the moment, they are getting politically what they never could have achieved through military means.

What are the women like?

Depends if you have to take what you can get.

Personally I've always had the luxury of being the 'chooser' rather than the 'beggar', so would be confident of not having to settle for a fat bird with a tash and body-odour issues. More Jennifer Aniston and less Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Can I also add how much I enjoy the powerful homemade booze they all seem to make in the countryside. Doesn't appear to matter whether they are supposed to be making wine, oozo or whatever, its always about 30% proof. Great stuff.

English. Greatest country in the world.

But the question was about your preferred NATIONALITY and as England is not itself a nation state (by most definitions) but rather a constituent part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, your nationality would be British not English then.

Britain has to be up there with the best of them. Problem is people tend to focus on the negatives ad forget all the good stuff. Likewise many places seem great when you are on holiday but it would be a whole different story if you had to actually live there.

Greece is fantastic when you are lying by the pool drinking beer, probably not so great when you live there and can't get a job. I love the Caribbean climate but it wouldn't be that enjoyable if I had to work in it. Sweden was very good but I doubt being there in Winter would be much fun.

We are very lucky to be in England when you think of how many sh!t holes there are around the World where you don't know where you next meal is coming from or you live in fear of your life.

Its rather nice in the winter, especially if you're a bit further up north. You don't get much light in december-januari but the landscape is beautiful during the hours you do get some sun. :D

I've been living here long enough to apply for Swedish citizenship and could even keep my Dutch one but mainly because of the cost I haven't done it yet.

Yes, Norway probably has even more of a winter than Sweden. the good side is that the roads are regularly ploughed and salted so there's not much disruption, although if you're planning to go across the mountains, the road might be closed or even more exciting, you have to do convoy driving. this means you all wait in a line for the plough to come, then you have to drive close enough to the car in front that you can see their lights through the snow, you have to drive fast enough to keep up or the road will disappear into a sheet of white in front of you and you'll be stuck.

You also have to change over to winter tyres during the autumn and back to summer tyres in the spring and unless you're an idiot, you'll keep tyre chains in your car because there's a good chance you'll need them if you go anywhere off the beaten track, which most Norwegians do as most families have a cabin/cottage in the mountains somewhere.

winter also means skiing where you get to choose to either pay a fortune to go downhill skiing, or you can cross country ski absolutely free, which is far more fun, although you get a bit fed up with both 5 year olds and 90 year olds zooming past you every so often.

Norwegian schools never close because of the weather and children never stay inside at playtime no matter what the weather is like. Every child from the age of about 3 or 4 has full skiing equipment too.

It's the autumns that drive me mad because it's just endless rain.

Depends were you are, kristiansand for example doesn't with say kiruna.

I'm in the south of sweden and am more than happy, yes the winters are colder and it gets dark maybe 2 hours earlier than in england , but thats only for 2 or 3 months and the standard of living here is the best in europe.

as sweaty ******** points out this place is perfect for bringing up kids .

Really? i think britain is twice as (and stupidly) politically correct as ...anywhere really.

Not noticed it here too much at all.

Agree about the summer, the swedes really do make up for the harsh winter .

soon lucia
