Kelvin Davis leaving ?

Seems a bit of a hopeful article to guess final deals before the loan window shuts for league teams.

If he would like to go and get games for a year or two more fair play to him and all the best but, it would be sad as he seems to be a big part of the team generally (despite not being premier league good enough).

Would be better than Loach (who has seemed to have a decent FM rating for a few years that has helped his reputation) and probably Henderson too.

I think Kelvin is pretty attached to the club.....though being dropped after a whole four games and being declared not good enough must have been a bit of a kick in the teeth (but only managers are allowed time to turn things around it would seem). I imagined Kelvin staying on at the club in some capacity (goal keeping coach?) after his playing days finished like Dodd or Jahidi he does seem to be a popular character at the club.

Unless they are talking about a January move in the Ipswich link this article seems to kibosh this rumour.

Not sure that there's any actual quote in the article which confirms the Echo's assertion that no more players will go out on loan. As far as I can see it just rules out Lee and De Ridder. I mean KD is hardly likely to make any impact from the bench is he ?

Kelvin has always had his limitations as a 'keeper and I was aprehensive about having him in goal before the start of the season. I remember him drawing a lot of criticism even in League 1 for being beaten too easily at his near post and not coming for crosses. He got away with it to an extent in the lower leagues but I think the PL is slightly above his level. Had a bit of a 'mare with Sunderland too I think.

Hasn't Davis been in every matchday squad, despite not playing? Still think he plays a big part in our team despite him not being on the pitch. No surprise that when Gazza was dropped, Davis was on the bench, and when Gazza has played, Kelv has been on the bench.

However wouldn't blame him if he wanted to leave and get some games although I wouldn't be surprised if he's quite happy staying and being a part of whats going on here.

He's served the club well, and he stayed with us when WestHam came calling.

Perfectly understandable if he wants to go. If he does, he'll be going with my thanks for helping us back to the big time.

That'll make his time at Saints all the more worthwhile then.

Would be a shame to lose him as he seems the sort you want to keep in and around the club. Seems like he has the making of a good coach. Also think he'd do a decent media job.

trouble is you can't keep every player who's reaching the end of the road on as a coach or in PR. I mean we've got Jaidi as some sort of ambassador to Africa, Dodd as coach to the U18s etc. At the end of the day you end up with a massive wage bill for some pretty obscure functions. Footballers are paid staggering amounts of money, they know it's a relatively brief career.

Nah that was Ian Turner Wembley 1st May 1976.

You've clearly forgotten how he dropped the ball from a Gordon Hill cross in the first minute, I nearly shat myself at the prospect of another 89 minutes like that. Like the rest of the team though he grew in confidence and probably wasn't stretched too much thankfully.

And with no gloves!

Eric Martin... there was a keeper without gloves, in freezing conditions :

Would like to see him stay but with him taking on some sort of coaching role. Been loyal, with through good times and bad so would like to see us continue as part of the structure of the club.

I'm not so sure about this sort of thing. If we keep it up, our coaching staff will be made up largely of retired Saints players when really we need to be going for the best people we can get.

In fact I might have missed the first minute, gone for a p*ss, too much beer. In those days anything less than 6 or 7 pints before the game and you were seen as a bit of a wimp

Fortunate to have that goal disallowed

Would like to see him get another shot in the PL, unfortunately every game is a must win at the moment and its too big a risk to play him at this level, I do think he may be good enough though

I'm sorry but I don't understand why it's a bigger risk to play Kelvin Davis, who's been our regular keeper throughout 2 successful promotion seasons, than to play Gazzaniga, who last season was playing in League 2, and has made 2 glaring errors in the last 2 games?

I honestly fail to see how gazza is any better than davis. His positioning is woeful, he has no command of his box. Yes he's a good shot stopper, but wasn't that always kelvin's main strength?

Dropped after 4 games where the whole defense was a shambles, not just him. I would be beyond ****ed off if I was him, especially as Boruc has now turned out to be a podgy headcase who has been swept under the carpet.

Until we get a bonafide premier league keeper, I would pick Davis every time.

Not really that good in one one one's. He lets in ridiculous amounts of easy near post finishes.

Yep. And Kelv's legs look like they've gone, slow to get across his goal. I love the guy but I don't think he's PL quality and it seems many others agree, would love to see him prove me wrong though

IN my opinion neither of the other two have shown themselves to be significantly better.

Yes I don't get this Kelvin isn't PL quaility becuase on current evidence neither are the other two...Kelvin is how ever a popular member of the squad and a leader in the team something I would of thought we need right now.
