Village Saint Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 anyone who says they wouldnt want him in the team, is telling porkies Do not be silly. I originally assumed that people were on some sort of enormous wind-up on this strand. Whatever you once thought of him, Beckham was past it some time ago. Whilst there is no doubt he would jump at the chance to play for ANY PL club, it is not going to happen. There is no way that he could be played in the PL now. He is not daft though and clearly he anticipates struggling even in MLS next year and so is looking for a 'new football challenge' (sometimes unfairly translated as loads of money for a relatively easy billet). That will likely come in the form of a contract in Asia - probably China - that he has already agreed. Good luck to him and if you were a fan you still have your memories. I do too - of Franny always having him in his pocket at the Dell. Magnificent.
Barry the Badger Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 Up and down the country, perhaps even the around world, football fans of every club are asking "Beckham - would you take him?". This is why I despise him and his miserable stick-insect wife so much. He either knows EXACTLY what he is doing next already - which club, full-time modelling, who knows (and remember, hes got kids who need f**king schooling now), or he is deliberately seeking attention - who is going to bend over the most for him. Otherwise, why wasnt his next move info included with the news he was leaving LA Galaxy ? They are clearly bored or missing the limelight - not enough paparazzis waiting for their miserable viasges in airport lounges any more. Why dont the pair of them just F**K OFF and buy their own private island ??? Wow.

KelvinsRightGlove Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I would love it if he joined Saints. Probably for all the wrong reasons. He was a large part of my childhood, and a massive idol for me as a nipper - and it is something that has never left me. How people can say he wasn't great are clearly kidding themselves. '97-'03 he was one of the best midfielders in the world. For a very long period he dragged a distinctly average England side by the scruff of its neck. For example, a team including players such as Danny Mills and Trevor Sinclair. Like I say, I would love to see him at Saints, purely for personal, irrational nostalgic reasons. And the chance to have Beckham on a Saints shirt.

ottery st mary Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 (edited) The amount of time and energy he has put into helping charities tells me all about the unheralded side to Mr Beckham. I stood at the front of St Marys after a Saints Man Utd. game a few years back. Dad Beckham went to get the wheels so as to pick Becks up to take him to a charity dooo in London...team coach had left for the airport. One lad stood with me said...words to the effect..that shiiiite Beckham will not sign any of those autograph hunters books .. Dad arrived and Becks escorted by 6 stewards to the wheels..Dad shouting at Becks to get in the car.. Becks stood at the passenger side with door open. Signed in the region of 30/4o autograph books/programmes shirts etc. some young lads/ladies walking away with parents..smiling/happy that Becks had spoken to them and signed their shirt etc. Apparently he had done something similar the season before at St Marys.. He did not do this for any ulterior motive or gain for himself.. Well done our David..... Ps Does anybody want a shiiiite autograph of a hasbeeeeeen;) So you Willy Wonkers who spew bile...... Let me tell you he is not all bad:) Edited 20 November, 2012 by ottery st mary

Junction 9 Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I have never bought a replica Saints shirt before, but if Beckham comes I'll be first in the queue. Well exciting.
Cabrone Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 No, he's past it now and would probably want too much. Always had split feelings about Beckham, I hated the showbiz crap that surrounded him but can't criticise the guy's commitment to his clubs and England. He was always a model pro. Time to close the book on Beckham's playing career, he won't be coming to Saints.
St Jim Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I'm in Melbourne and would love it if he joined the Heart I too would love it if he comes to the A-League, obviously I'd prefer it if he came to Adelaide United but any A-League club will do
St Jim Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I think he'd be great for us. I still think he has abit to offer on the pitch and would have a big influence amongst the playing group but more than anything the money and interest he'd generate for the club could be huge. Lighthouse Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I would say no. I'm sure in the future promoting the clubs image abroad will become a large priority. Right now we have bigger priorities like sorting out our defence and staying in the league. Bringing in Beckham wont help us and the large media circus etc. may disturb the team ethic somewhat. I doubt he will be all that good as a player either. Robert Pries was as good as Beckham on his day. He joined Villa at a similar age a couple of years ago and was hopeless. There are very few players still capable of playing at that level when they're 37. I don't see any need to try when we've got very capable young players in Lallana, Gaston and Puncheon. Mr_Red Posted 21 November, 2012 Share Posted 21 November, 2012 So a guy who has won the Premiership, the Champions League, La Liga (in his last season I think?) and the MLS cup (or whatever it is) would want to come to us or QPR to finish his career by potentially being relegated? Not exactly a storybook ending. I'd rather get a shed load of dosh from PSG myself, better shopping there than at West Quay too. To answer the question. Yes I'd have him at Saints maybe as a player/youth coach just for the name and for the reputation that he would bring. But it simply won't happen. It's about as likely as Michael Owen playing for Stoke or Emile Heskey being the top goalscorer for Newcastle... oh.
Hatch Posted 21 November, 2012 Share Posted 21 November, 2012 50/1 to join saints with betvictor if any nutcase out there fancies wasting some money
Window Cleaner Posted 21 November, 2012 Share Posted 21 November, 2012 (edited) 50/1 to join saints with betvictor if any nutcase out there fancies wasting some money might as well give it to some deserving cause that you can deduct from your income tax. Beckham is even quoted for the Chelsea manager's job; Anyone who bets on Beckham for such things needs protecting from themself. I see NA isn't even quoted yet but that Hughes is only 66/1. Laurent Blanc 25/1 now there might be a bit of an investment. Edited 21 November, 2012 by Window Cleaner
Charlie Wayman Posted 21 November, 2012 Share Posted 21 November, 2012 PSG for Becks, Big Pay-off, Paris, tons of publicity, an IN crowd... what's not to like? Becks at St Mary's? You're having a laugh!
