SNOWY Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 "Sceptical" is my initial reaction to that article. I agree. I hardly see anyone wearing it other than at matches. Used to see the sash everywhere.
The9 Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 (edited) To be fair, I've seen more people wearing this new shirt than previous years. And why wouldn't the "current regime" have figures from pre 2009? I'd imagine the shop has kept records, wouldn't really be too hard for them to do. I'd be more inclined to think they got burned when we were in admin... they could have total sales but not units, nothing or anything, but it wouldn't suit their spin to acknowledge previous sales. The point is they've chosen their wording very specifically to use a phrase which doesn't say "sold the most shirts", therefore we have not sold more of these shirts than any other. If they were genuinely impressed with the sales they'd be ordering more stock, not saying stuff like "we might sell out earlier than last year so please buy it now". The other thing that springs to mind about this is that the sash shirt sold out almost immediately and there were few "normal sizes" in stock from August to October, which would also explain how this shirt could outsell the shirt they previously claimed was our best ever seller (and I'm not entirely convinced about that one either, but it's a lot easier to believe). The other issue is that single season shirts with no specific purpose (unlike the commemorative sash, which was also our first one season home shirt) very rarely sell as well as multi-season shirts because some people are put off by knowing it'll be out of date within 12 months. The9 Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I dunno. But to suggest otherwise leads to the only other conclusion; that the club are making up erroneous bullsh*t and using the OS as their own propaganda machine. I'm not sure if my agenda drives me that far, but who knows, I'm open minded. I'm not sure it's so much erroneous or bull, just very carefully worded and certainly marketing spin if not propaganda. I'm still fairly sure we'd have shifted more shirts in the 2002-4 period when we were in the Prem, better, online sales existed and we were selling through the same number of outlets as now. As I've said already the only changes are manufacturer, financial state of the people who buy the shirts and the expanded global audience (of which the majority would already have had Prem coverage). Of course we could be flogging zillions to China, but I don't see any evidence of it.
aintforever Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I expect they mean the fastest selling kit ever for Southampton FC est. 2009.
The Kraken Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I expect they mean the fastest selling kit ever for Southampton FC est. 2009. Highly probable. And given that they've exceeded last year's sales for the home kit already, and that the sash kit was woefully under-ordered so ran out in September for a few months, highly likely too. adrian lord Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 The devil is in the wording I expect with that claim.
OldNick Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 At the end of the day the club were correct and have sold lots of shirts. Brilliant and a good kit as well
Minsk Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 I only bought the away shirt last season. I didn't like how how the logo band looked with the stripes on the home one. Usually I only get one shirt and decide whether it will be the home or away one based on which I like best. I bought both the home and away shirts this season as I like them both and couldn't decide which not to get. Personally, I like them.
SaintRobbie Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/new-saints-kit-is-fastest-selling-ever-497217.aspx Interesting after all the debate on here. Or is it more to do with the fact we're back in the Premiership? Yes its partly because we're back in the Premiership. But, it is also the worst strip we've ever had IMHO - it's not Saints unless its red and white stripes. Sorry, the sash I could accept as a historical throwback, playing dressed as Liverpool I can't. S O S Save... Our....Stripes!
