Sash kit would have old more if it wasn't for the fact that they'd sold out by about September and didn't get any more stock for months, by which time the kit was nearing the end of its life. Still wish I'd been able to get hold of a sash shirt.

Many may not like the all red, but in terms of a sales concept you've got to take your hat off to the club. Having a stripey shirt year on year isn't likely to sell as well; so they've broken that up by having first the sash (which, as stated, could have sold many more had they not sold out) and now this concept. Expect the stripes to return next year to much popular acclaim, then something different again (a Rank Xerox type effort would be good).

Although I do quetion how far back the sales "history" goes; one could perhaps assume only to 2009.

I said once I saw the initial design that it'll be a kit/shirt that at first will shock and horrify people but after a few weeks/few games, it will grow and become popuiar and people will begin to really like it.

I for one I have liked it since I saw it and think it is the way the 'new' and modern Saints are going. Expect similar variations in the future I think.

Well last season I could barely walk a dozen paces around and about the city without seeing a Saints shirt and this year's version certainly doesn't seem less prominent.

Bit of a skewed statistic if true though - you can't underestimate the extra exposure of the Premier League. I imagine that vast swathes of plastics have descended upon the store to show support for their 'beloved' Saints. I like it, but opinion of our core support still seems divided.

I bought it but hope we go back to proper stripes next season, it's just not Saints. I believe Umbro won't be doing our kit next season so hopefully someone decent picks it up (not Nike)

Just bought the away one and they didn't have anything with short sleeves smaller than XXL so maybe they are skewing the figures with the white away one which seems to be very popular.

As above, this has to be due to our league status. Also very telling that kid's shirt sales are meant to be dramatically up (doubled), this could perhaps be the leading factor in sales exceeding prior years.

Defo the PL effect. A bit like attendances and presumably the pushing back of the tide of Pompey kits being worn up the M27 in recent years.

I was told by someone at the club that initial sales were very good but after about a month of it being on sale then they slowed significantly. The white has hardly sold at all. Feel free to dismiss this as bullsh*t unless I name the person and they can provide me all the figures of sales since records began.

Can you please provide the name of the person and follow up with all the sales figures since records began?

It's a nice bit of propaganda from th club though, especially in view of who chose the kits, against advice might I add!

Who chose the kit? Was it Reed?

I would have said "ripple" rather than "tide".

As for opening post...Pinch. Of. Salt.

Heads should roll over the white kit. You can't come up with an away kit that is only suitable for one match, it is ridiculous.

Depends who made the decision on it, really :suspicious:

Don't be silly. The red home shirt can be worn most games meaning that the white kit will develop an air of exclusivity.

A genius piece of marketing from Cortese as shown by the unprecedented sales figures.

Just a shame he missed a trick by neglecting to put our de facto away kit (yellow one) on sale.

Silly Nik Nak.

I've bought every home shirt since the sash ( and have a few others kicking about ).

Still really unsure on the new kit; either to wear or to watch on-screen. Looks a bit tacky close up. The big plastic advertising hoarding is craap3, imo.

When do you wear it Pap?

Whoever it was deserves a big pat on the back for driving the club towards record shirt sales.

Quite, as proven by the statement on their very own website. I'm just surprised Leighton Mitchell has not praised the chairman for all his hardwork behind the scenes.

I have decided to class this story on the club's official website as bullsh1t in light of the latest rumour from Turkish's bit of stuff.

Just think what our sales would have been like if they had chosen a kit that the majority of fans like! I can't believe that it has outsold last season's kit, though maybe pricing has something to do with it. I loved last season's kit and bought it as soon as its price was reduced at the end of the season!

In my opinion, it strikes me that the club's claims are either a complete fabrication or that the Premiership glory-hunter factor has come into play and we have also sold a lot abroad in the light of buying Lee, Yoshida, Mayuka, etc.

Or maybe the non- vocal majority actually do like it??

I take it you missed the poll that was done on this site? While Saintsweb can't be taken to represent all fans, it certainly represents a significant sample and the poll clearly showed that over 50% did not like it. I imagine, however, that there will have been many who bought it anyway as it represents Saints return to the Premiership.

Interesting after all the debate on here.

Or is it more to do with the fact we're back in the Premier League?

It's blatantly just a pack of half-truths to panic people into buying shirts before Christmas. "Fastest selling" because they have new tills which work more quickly I would assume. Why else wouldn't they use "most sold" - they haven't said that because they can't.

As for "we estimate shirt stocks will run out in February", well if you're selling so many, order some more.

They trumpeted "fastest selling launch day" as well, and then we worked out they sold around 400 shirts, which is frankly a bit rubbish.

There is absolutely no way we've shifted more shirts this season than in the first few years at St Mary's or when we got to the FA Cup Final / played in Europe. I'd be inclined to think that this is "fastest selling shirt sales ever*".

*Records begin in 2011.

Have we honestly sold more than the anniversary sash kit, which was absolutely everywhere and (docker-p aside), pretty much everyone liked it ? I accept that there are far more people watching us in the Prem, but the methods of buying are still the same - obviously there are more people going to games to begin with, and you can't sell shirts to empty seats in 2009, but we'd have to be shipping a hell of a lot to people who aren't going to matches - maybe there are thousands of shirts going to Japan with MAYA and LEE on the back ?

Pretty much all that article says is "it's sold more than last year's" which is not all that surprising given the higher profile.

I'd also be very surprised if the 2009 regime has all the details of the 2001-2005 shirt sales as they were in-house, and with the exception of slightly higher global visibility and the intervening recession, pretty much everything is similar to then.

In other made up club news (made up by me this time), Lambert 7 "best-selling Prem Saints shirt printing ever*"

*only includes current SportingID numbers, in use 2008-2012, definitely not that Le Tissier bloke.

I dunno. But to suggest otherwise leads to the only other conclusion; that the club are making up erroneous bullsh*t and using the OS as their own propaganda machine. I'm not sure if my agenda drives me that far, but who knows, I'm open minded.

To be fair, I've seen more people wearing this new shirt than previous years. And why wouldn't the "current regime" have figures from pre 2009? I'd imagine the shop has kept records, wouldn't really be too hard for them to do.
