Tadanari Lee

Fit but didn't take his chance against Leeds at all so has to train hard to get back on the bench.

Shame as he showed some good potential before getting that injury in the champ. Some good direct running that was a bit different to everyone else should really get him some decent sub appearances, just assuming he hasn't come back from the last few injuries as well as hoped.

Decent player but not good enough for our first team at the moment. Would imagine there are some Japanese teams keen on him, or some eastern Europeans like BATE Borisov or FC Cluj who can offer European football but in a weaker league.

Lee has been unlucky with injuries but he isnt a wide player and its hard to see him get ahead of RL, JR or Mayuka bar a huge injury crisis.

Would imagine the Janaury period will be key for him as we will have at least one FA Cup game and Mayuka will be at the ACON so he might have more of a look in.

How many times has he actually played for us. He looked ok Vs Leeds when we nicked it 1-0 on TV, and also know he played in Watford away, Cardiff home and Derby home when he scored that cracker. Did he play in many more than that ?!

Barnsley at home. Remember him playing well in that one and setting Lallana up for an easy finish. 2-0 I think

Who?

i dont think NA rates him tbh

Delete your last four words and you could be spot on.

- Because you have no idea what NA thinks. On the evidence of Lee's few exciting appearances last year that I have seen, and when he has grafted his way back to his true form, he should provide some exciting options upfront. We just have to be patient. On the other hand, if his injuries prove to have had a permanent detriment to his abilities he will eventually have to be sold. But let's not jump to negative conclusions.

Luckily the club is patient and does have a good record of nursing promising players back to fitness over long stretches of time.

Who would you drop from our current match day squad for Lee to have a place?

You can only play 11 footballers at a time and at least 6 of those are defensive so poor old Chung through no fault of his own has slipped down the pecking order for the other 5 places whilst he's been out through injury especially with the arrival of Ramirez and Mayuka.

Having another Japanese on board won't have helped his cause either as all the publicity down there will have shifted to their Japan captain, assuming that the whole Japanese thing is a huge marketing gambit to sell shirts down under.

mayuka from jan to feb. hopefully he'll be fit by then and ready to grab his chance during this two months to either break into the starting line up or more realistically, a place in the matchday squad.

ANC 19 Jan-10 Feb, presume Mayuka will be off after the FA Cup game or even before and they do like a bit of a holiday afterwards. Still think Chung will be looking for more regular football though to give him a chance to claim his place for the 2014 World Cup. Surprised if he's still with us in February.

De Ridder if he's still in the squad, otherwise it would have to be Mayuka who is similarly fast as Lee, but has not distinguished himself on the pitch yet when he should be fit. All depends on Lee achieving max fitness and games in the Dev/Under 21 squads first.

Jos too, but he would need to be exchanged for a better defender when the opportunity comes.

I would prefer a fit Chung to JayRod. Better goal scorer imho.

De Ridder doesn't make the matchday 18 either do you can't swap them.

Did you not see Mayuka vs Tottenham? He changed the game.

On what is that based?

Rodriguez has a good record of goalscoring in the Championship and has 1 Premier League goal this season. Tadanari Lee has scored 1 goal whilst in England vs Derby last season.

Lee gets nowhere near our first choice 16.

which is why I expect him to be gone in January..at least on loan. Hanging about in our surplus to requirements group is doing him no good. He was a Japan regular and now he's on their scrapheap (which takes some achieveing) because he isn't playing. Situation can't go on for him like that. We kind of know he's on about 20K a week and for a player who has no chance of a PL start seemingly that's surely not acceptable to the management. Plus it won't do our standing with the Work Permit Committee any good at all, we told them he was an exceptional talent.

If we were to lose Adam for a period of time I would hope that Lee, as a left-sided player with pace, would/could/might work himself into the team, alongside Ramierez and Punch, hence allowing the team to keep the same shape.

Surely this is better than playing a striker out of position, as has been tried to no good effect (yes I'm referring to Jay Rod on the left)?

Lee is a left footed striker not a left sided player. There is a huge difference.

has Japan moved to the Antipodes without telling anyone??

Guly most likely. Or Jay Rod, Mayuka or Lee would be put out there.

I think its fair to say that Lee is the only natural left footer amongst those you list.

He is also in the top two pace-wise.

For those reasons I am hoping (naiively, maybe) that Lee would be in with a shout.

But I'm further hoping that this mitigation will not be necessary (ie Adam will remain fit and available)

Let's not forget that come January some of our existing squad might well be poached by richer Prem sides (though I hope not). So let's not write off our vaunted but injured or recovering players just yet. Chung could well find he has an important role as a fast naturally left footed player replacing Adam (as someone has mentioned).

Nobody played well against Leeds (he was being played out of position also) and im sure Lee is getting ****ed off that when he was fit players like Guly were getting into the first team before him. I really rate Lee, his movement was outstanding last season, he set up quite a few goals being not greedy and scored a cracker against derby. I have seen him play 3 times and each time i when i was watching him he lost his marker each time, just a pitty we had no-one who was on the same wave length or he'd have been clean through. Barnsley home i seem to remember he skinned 1 defender used pace to get the the bar line, waited til 2 defenders came towards him then he neatly passed the ball to lallana (i think) to score. He would be a better player instead of JRod at this moment, Jrod just needs time and i can really see Lee's movement linking very well with Ramirez.

Sums it up nicely for me......;)

Much better player than given credit for..:p

As I said before....Could be like a new signing as per Puncheon:)

At the start of the season everyone, absolutely everyone, was saying he would be our best player this year. I stood alone as the voice of reason pointing out we hadn't seen enough of him to make a statement like that, but I was shouted down by everyone.

Absolutely everyone?

Please find a post of mine where I said that.

You certainly didn't. I was even accused of having no idea what I was talking about and of having zero football knowledge when I stated he wasn't good enough.

Think it was that Vectis clown abusing anyone who dared say a bad word against him.

I remember you being the only one to say that actually. I was going to shout you down like all the others, but thought I'd wait a while.

No, just you, Charmless. Unlike you I never abused anyone over this, I have an opinion that he is (or at least was) a decent player, which I stand by, based on having seen him play several times. I don't believe I ever said anything like he would be our best player. Muppet.
