david in sweden Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 (edited) No this is not meant to be a controversial thread, but only a quick analysis of results - so far. No-one has to mention our disasterous goals difference, but here are some other stats.to ponder over. Even our worst critics have finally admitted that we had one he** of a fixture list to start the season with ...but I noted that Spurs have already played SEVEN of the teams that we have, and here is a quick comparison. Yes we lost 1-2 to them, but our 2nd half performance was certainly worth one point, and we weren't so much worse than them. But how did they fare with the other teams? SAINTS .......Opposition...........SPURS 1-6 (a).............ARSENAL..............2-5 (a) 3-1 (a)................QPR..................2-1 (h) 2-3 (a)..............MAN.CITY............1-2 (a) 0-2 (a).................WBA................1-1 (h) 0-2 (h)...............WIGAN..............0-1 (h) 4-1 (h).............A. VILLA............. 2-0 (h) 2-3 (h)............MAN.UTD.............3-2 (a) they also lost 1-2 to Newcastle.. but won away 3-1 at Reading. They have picked up a couple of wins that we haven't, but on the basis of the above results being 19th in the table doesn't feel as though we are a million miles away from Spurs' performances to date. Are they really SO MUCH superior to us -(result wise).. and given the squad they have to choose from? Edited 19 November, 2012 by david in sweden
Barry Sanchez Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 I'm sorry I really don't understand the last bit of your post? Are they really SO MUCH superior to us -(result wise).. and given the squad they have ?
david in sweden Posted 19 November, 2012 Author Posted 19 November, 2012 I'm sorry I really don't understand the last bit of your post? Are they really SO MUCH superior to us -(result wise).. and given the squad they have ? Given the positions of the two teams, some people might say that we can't be compared to Spurs - I don't think they are as good as their league position shows, despite having lots more international talent in their squad..even if their defence is better.
dickyhale Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 No The premiership table does not LIE 8 Tottenham 12 -1 17 Fulham 12 3 16 Swansea 12 2 16 Liverpool 12 1 15 Newcastle 12 -4 14 Norwich 12 -9 14 Stoke 11 -1 12 Sunderland 11 -2 12 Wigan 12 -9 11 Reading 11 -5 9 Aston Villa 12 -12 9 19 Southampton 12 -12 8 QPR 12 -14 4

I'm not sure bout their manager tbh, but their squad is miles better. It ain't even close.
max_saints Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 given that they have 3 wins more than us, one of which was against us as you have mentioned, conceded less goals and have a better goal difference than us... I fail to see any stat which shows that they are not better than us.
LGTL Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Jesus. I'm waiting for someone to bring out the classic "I wouldn't swap any of our players for any of theirs"
Barry Sanchez Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Our defence is ****e, there is no getting away from that fact, that may not be in the premiership table but its as sure as ****e true. I was going to post both defences but I feel I really dont need to as after you have compared Daniel Fox to Gareth Bale and Hugo Lloris/Brad Freidel to Kelvin Davies/Artur Brouc and Paulo Gazzaniga its impossible to go on without going red.

View From The Top Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Some one is seriously fu.cked up for even thinking this.
Saint Charlie Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 David in Sweden is a known WUM. Put him on ignore. The guy is crackers.
Dig Dig Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Wait... are you mocking his agenda? He's just a bitter that david is starting better threads than him. Saint Charlie has gone mental..... FACT
Saint Charlie Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Haha - Im just mocking a poor thread. Spurs are miles better than us clearly. This Mongboard amazes me at times.
Dr Who? Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 I think we would give England a good game *whistles*
Dig Dig Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Haha - Im just mocking a poor thread. Spurs are miles better than us clearly. This Mongboard amazes me at times. You have to respect davids agenda. He loves Saints and thinks we're better than Spurs.
Turkish Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 I think we would give England a good game *whistles* Catch up, we were better than England in our league one days.
The Kraken Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Catch up, we were better than England in our league one days. Ha ha ha. I just had to dredge up that thread for the lols. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?22888-Saints-V-England&highlight=england
Saint Charlie Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 You have to respect davids agenda. He loves Saints and thinks we're better than Spurs. I respect the lad's agenda. He is pro Saints with a wacky edge and sticks to it. Is the only agenda he knows and he has a good level of consistency about himself. On this occasion he must have been eating some magic moong beans. Spurs are miles ahead of us (as all of us know).
Dig Dig Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 It's magic moong beans Monday in the retirement home
St Lej Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 I think we are a better side than spurs tbh, the table is false at the moment as we've been well unlucky. They've had easier games and had the rub of the green from refs I expect. I fully expect us to go to WHL and win later in the season, I would also be amazed if we didn't finish above them at the seasons end. We were better than England when we are in league 1, so anyone with half an ounce of football knowledge can deduce from this that, as a prem team, we are clearly way better than spurs
brmbrm Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Ha ha ha. I just had to dredge up that thread for the lols. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?22888-Saints-V-England&highlight=england  Not the best bit of my day, but arguably the most entertaining, was reading that thread. Head,, hang, shame..... Hahahahahahahahahahah
AussieDog Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Would be interesting for peoples views on a player by player basis for both teams "best" lineups - not that I expect anyone would actually agree on either team. I think it's obvious Bale is a class above everyone, and that they are superior in the goalkeeping department. I do think we are in a flase position - we have played the entire top 8 (I think) and that is one hell of an intro to the Premier League.
Bucks Saint Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 At having unrealistic expectations? Yes for sure, although we will give them a run for their money

The whole back 5 for a start, then Huddlestone, Dembele, Bale, Sandro (or Parker), Lennon. Gaston may get a bit of playing time. Probably Adebayor but I would put Lambert and Defoe close.

Jack Cork and Gaston Ramirez might add some competition to their first choice lineup.
Thedelldays Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Are spurs better than us? Very much so Next question!
tajjuk Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Just on those results they beat Utd at Old Trafford which is a way better result than losing at home to them. They were also a lot better than us against Arsenal, we were woeful, whereas spurs were unlucky, if Adebayor hadn't have been an idiot the result would have been different. They were giving Arsenal a good game with 10 men and should have got back to 4-3 if Bale had squared it to defoe. They have a way better team than us, but they aren't great defensively. However with Bale and Lennon storming own the wings they will trouble anyone. Our fixture list is what gives us hope, apart from losing to Wigan at home, we have doen ok. Everyone was down on our team about losing away to West Brom yet Chelsea just got done over there and West Brom are 4th. - We have played 12 games. - 9 of these games have been against the current top 10. - 7 of our losses have been against the current top 8. - 5 of the games against the top 8 have been away. - If you take away the points earned by the top 10 against us they would still be the top 10. - Our current record against the top 8 is played 7, lost 7, for 8, against 23. - Against teams below 8th it's played 5, won 2, drawn 2, lost 1, for 10, against 7.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Spurs are a good side, problem is that their manager isn't. Likes to tinker far too much, perhaps the transfer committee is picking the team.

yorkiesaint Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Yes david but in your 7 games: spurs got 10 points, times by 5.4 (approx gives you the 38 games) and this gives 53 for the season- mid table, but probably should and will do better. saints got 6 points, times by 5.4 and this gives 32 for the season- relegation form. My point is that in the premier league these small differences are enough to sink a team, even if some of the results are the same. This is without considering that spurs won some of their other games and we did not.
This Charming Man Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 If any neutral fan was to see this thread, they would be on the floor laughing hysterically. Some people on here never cease to amaze me.
VectisSaint Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Jesus. I'm waiting for someone to bring out the classic "I wouldn't swap any of our players for any of theirs" I would swap many of our players for just one of theirs, as long as its Bale.
Patrick Bateman Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 I have no words for this thread. Maybe one, muppet.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 In fairness, I wouldn't have any of Spurs' players in our team. Honest.
Wes Tender Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 Spurs are better than us currently, but the gap between us will narrow over the next 2 or 3 years. It wouldn't surprise me if AVB doesn't last out the season. There are already dark murmerings from Spurs fans I know who don't think that he's very good for them.
The Kraken Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 In fairness, I wouldn't have any of Spurs' players in our team. Honest. In fairness, you'd be a complete idiot not to have any of them. Honest.

Dalek2003 Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 But if we lose against Newcastle, we'll be worse than Hartlepool. Having said that, a win and we will be on a par with Brazil !

Interesting set of stats though, that and the "Saints fastest selling kit ever" nonsense proves that adage about "lies, damn lies..." quite nicely.
raynesparksaint Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 If they had our results so far, and we had theirs..... they would still be better than us.

So it might not lie, but it certainly masks the end of season standings nicely - until the end of the season. FWIW QPR, having just played us, have Man U next, and then the rest of the bottom 6. Whichever of us is still in the bottom 3 at Xmas is doomed. Until then, it's a bit more difficult to say. Meanwhile, Villa have got a run of top half sides coming up and are already in the bottom 3.
SaintWill71 Posted 20 November, 2012 Posted 20 November, 2012 This thread is quite something, what is in store tomorrow, is Ronaldo really better than Puncheon?
