His contract expires in June, based on his performances so far this season and some of last I'd love to have him sign an extension as if we wait to December we might face a bit of a dog-fight as he'd be a good signing for most clubs on a free. I've been impressed with his increased maturity and improved attitude and can't see us getting an improvement on him except for ridiculous money, just wanted to hear some thoughts.

A year maybe, not a full on give him more money though.

Too predictable, too inconsistent and for a relatively quick lad he provides very little on the break. Get a good fee off him in Jan or an extension for an extra year to get a good fee in the summer. Shouldn't really be a long term option for us on the right.

one or two good games this season... did you see that analysis from WBA's Steven Reid on MOTD2 - "he's been sensational this season", I mean where do they get this crap from?

I voted him MOM on Saturday, but the bloke is still an arroagnt cretin who believes in own hype.

Mmmm....he's 26 already....so a 3 year contract might be a bit dicey,?... but if he continues to perform as he has recently... then we should keep him a bit longer.

What? Since when did giving a 26 year old a 3 year deal become "dicey". If he was 36 I'd agree

Puncheon is your typical Premiership player. He comes first. The ability to say he is a top Premiership player is the motivation. Who he actually plays for comes behind that.

So long as we're in the Premiership, he will give it his all, play his best and do all he can to put in a good performance. Don't think he is doing it for the love of Saints though, he's doing it because he wants to be a Premiership footballer.

Should we care? Not at all.

despite adkins saying his attitude is first class?

His attitude wasn't first class when we were struggling at s**t grounds grinding it out with a squad low on morale was it? In fact he was more and more interested the higher and higher we moved up the pyramid, and for this reason I will never believe his attitude to be first class. The reason it is good this season is because he is playing at the level he THINKS he deserves. In most industries his attitude would have cost him, sadly in football it ends up doing you a favour to be a self important chump. But fans don't forget.

Aye.

This, and the previous comparison with Fabrice Fernandes, sums him up very nicely.

Thing is, he's a problem child. Yes he's doing well at the moment, but if he has two or three crap games and is dropped, what's his response likely to be? Graft and effort to get back into the team, or toys-out-of-pram hissy fit? I know which one I'd put my money on...

Nigel's done a great job rehabilitating him (how many people would have said he'd even still be at the club 9 months ago, let alone starting and playing well), but it does have the feel of a temporary thing.

Having said that, there's not much the club can do, these dats even if you want to move a player on the best option is to keep him happy and playing well, increases the chance of someone coming in for him

in the current climate, it seems like 23 is almost too old in our squad, but we do need to keep him if he retains this form. although I don't expect him to retain his tone of speed ...until 29.

He's not a player who is reliant on pace. His composure on the ball is much more pivitol to his game.

His response will probably be the same as it's been since he was last dropped from the team for a few games....which was in the games leading up to Swansea.

I think we're a better side with Puncheon in it, hopefully he won't get dropped.
