teedee38 Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 Before the season started I thought we would need to win 1 in 3 to stay up but so far even that is beyond us. I believe we have the right Manager, Owners and Facilities, The players are the right blend of youth and experience and are giving 100% but if funds are available maybe we could do with a 'big name' central defender, however, being close to bottom in January won't attract the best and in our position the last thing we wan't to do is sign cover players or substitutes. With a lot of last seasons first team squad on the bench, out on loan or in the reserves for me the big question will be not who comes in January, but who goes? Saint Garrett Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 Atleast: De Ridder Chaplow Dickson Seaborne Possibles: Guly Fox I do worry that we may receive bids for players who have been great for us so far this season. And with the financial position of the club currently unknown, we may need to accept them. Although I can't imagine Cortese will be happy to listen to offers. On the other hand we might be absolutely loaded and happy to 'break the bank' for another few players. Hard to say.

Lambert has shown he's up to it, but not many others have shown over a significant stretch that they're a must have for any other Premier League team (let alone one from the top ten or twelve who presumably would have the funds to tempt them away). And January is noted as the time when you have to spend over the odds to get players. Take Wolves as an example; they were quite easily able to keep Jarvis and Fletcher at the club for the whole season, and then cash in when relegated. Likewise, for us to attract players in Jan is not going to be simple, and we may have to pay a lot more than we would perhaps have had to do in the summer. Saint Charlie Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 I know BATE Borisov are interested in Lee.
Saint Garrett Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 True, although Cork has proved since he's come in he is fabulous at the job he does. If he carries on like he has been the last 2 games then I can see teams being interested in him. Morgan has been very good this season IMO, Lambert has stepped up. Punch will be a good opportunity for someone as his contract is up in the summer I think? Lallana hasn't been amazing this season, but I can still see clubs being interested in him. Shaw has been superb since he's come in to the side and courted by the 'big clubs' so can see clubs looking at him. Fingers crossed though we can keep our first team together and add a couple more faces.
Saint_clark Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 I know BATE Borisov are interested in Lee. If a bid upwards of £1million comes in the I'd definitely let him go.
Window Cleaner Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 If a bid upwards of £1million comes in the I'd definitely let him go. 50p would probably get the job done, don't see him with much future with Saints. Pity but there it is.

Are you really advocating doing nothing about the defence - unless the absolutely "perfect" name is available - that has shipped the most goals in PL history for this time of season ?
