Ken Tone Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 Only if he is out of contract and free agent. I think that it is even stricter than that. They need to have been out of contract before the window closed. Otherwise there would a pompey-style loophole , whereby a club could release a player so he became a free agent honest guv, just before they signed elsewhere. david in sweden Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 (edited) I bow to your greater experience here , David. As a relatively younger supporter, still only in my 50's, both Reynolds and Hollowbread precede my Saints supporting days by a fraction. Gurr & Martin were the earliest incumbents I recall, although at that time older relatives still brought up the name of Campbell Forsyth regularly. Ok Badger, I know it's a bit sad / annoying when someone quotes a name who you've never seen play...isn't it? My (late) father's generation used to quote CF Charlie Wayman's name all the time, it was a bit boring when I was a kid, but then I realised what a great player he must have been but there are no films to prove it. Scottish international Campbell Forsyth was a real dose of salts in our promotion side 1965/6. He owned the penalty area, and would bark at the defenders who always hung back and ushered them upfield. Great sorrow when he broke a leg (in collision with LB Denis Hollywood and a Liverpool striker) in the first weeks of our first Div.1 season. He came back after a year, but was never the same. Not sad at all, well not with my generation it isn't, its just a continuation of my Saints education ! However I do notice my children's eyes glazing over a bit if I reminisce to much ...Channon, Osgood - he signed one of their autograph books a few months before he died - are okay, Stokes is committed to the history books, but some of the others including Hugh Fisher and the great Alehouse team have yet to register with them, perhaps they never will. The name Charlie Wayman was often quoted at me, along with one or two others. Shame about Forsyth's injury, I remember Gurr's injury being cut short by injury when great things were expected. If you don't have a copy of " In that Number " then you don't know what you're missing. It was printed in 2003 after the FA Cup Final v. Arsenal...but as a history of the Saints - it's unbeatable. My well-thumbed copy is always at hand and seems to turn up another page I hadn't read before. I think there may be a few copies still around. If not PM Fitzhugh Fella (Duncan Holley) he may know. CaneNero Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 Why would he come to Saints when he's 1st choice at Spurs? Agreed it'd do us wonders if he came though.
david in sweden Posted 19 November, 2012 Share Posted 19 November, 2012 It has pride of place on my bookshelf ! well done that man..........how I wish we'd had videos earlier. The only film I know of Ron Davies.... is the famous 4-1 win at Old Trafford, in scratchy old B/W on YOU TUBE. and there's also a copy of Terry Paine's greatest England game ..(1963?-ish) .Eng. beat N.I 8-3 (not such a bad side then)at the old Wembley. Terry scored 3 and made 4 others.......

I've noted and saved quite a few old Saints gems on my favourites that people have found. Surely we could set up a site with the relative YOU TUBE addresses for people to mail in.? saintedwill Posted 20 November, 2012 Share Posted 20 November, 2012 Unless I've misunderstood the rules, we surely couldn't sign him , even on loan, until January? There is a faint possibility of an emeregency loan for a keeper, but that is normally only if all a club's senior keepers are injured, not just 'not quite good enough' . I think we've all seen how the American keeper gets to play in Escape To Victory. If some tells KD that the rooming arrangements have changed and he'll be in a bunk bed, I think he should be worried.
