Can't see it myself - but then what do I know?

I totally trust in NA as an ex keeper, but not a great track record so far!

Yes, two promotions suck. ;)

For two years he had Kelvin Davis, now we need a step up. Gazzaniga has promise, Boruc has weight/psychological issues..... Friedel would be outstanding but purely short term. He is 41 after all..... But has done nothing wrong at Spurs, cruel to push him out.

It isn't on their website yet, but a BBC reporter tweeted this...

The Daily Mirror report in Monday's paper that Southampton are lining up a move for Tottenham keeper Brad Friedel. #thfc #saintsfc

They have 4 keepers on the books, so inevitable that someone would test Spurs' resolve by making a move for one of them. What is he? 41, 42? Ordinarily I would say no, but this is Brad Friedel, for goodness' sake. He is in incredible condition, plays almost every game.

I can't see Spurs letting him go, as he is 1st or 2nd choice, and I can't really see Adkins going for him, as it would say that Davis is discarded and Boruc was a mistake.

The Mirror? Hmm.

Not featured at all since Spurs, even on the bench.... I wouldn't dismiss this as a possibility.

Spurs seem to be needing an excuse to play Lloris without looking to be harsh on Friedel. A loan move/transfer to keep him fit/have first team while Lloris finds his feet could be ideal.

I thought this to myself when he was left out on Saturday. I guess a mirror reporter thought so too. That's enough to put it in the paper (journalistic integrity being so high these days), but I doubt it is anywhere near true.

Does anyone know what sort of a deal/contract we have Boruc on ? End of season ? 2 seasons ?

Actually sorry I wont be lazy.... Good old Wicki

Southampton

On 22 September 2012, Boruc joined Premier League club Southampton, on a one-year deal.[14][15] He made his debut on 20 October in a 4-1 defeat away to West Ham United at Upton Park.[16]

So I guess it's plausable...

Didn't Souness try to sign him for us many years ago but he was refused a work permit?

Yeah, I think he did. Then Liverpool signed him a bit later without any problems.

Would be a great signing if true, unfortunately as I'm yet to see am PROOF I will be ignoring this rumour.

He would be the final piece of the jigsaw. One of the best keepers ever and one of the most underrated, too. If only it were to be true.....

Err, I think there might be a few other pieces missing actually.

By proof do you mean Nixon? ;)

Difficult to believe but would be great. Just hope it's not in part payment for someone like Shaw, who looks the absolute business. No coincidence that we win when Fox is nowhere near the field of play.

Perhaps a loan deal until the end of the season? Would take that. I read last week that Lloris wants away in Jan so not sure Spurs will let Friedel go.

Posted
I'd be amazed if this was even remotely accurate.

So would I but I would love it if it were true. He's the best premiership keeper since Schmiekel bar none - and he still has it.

Now that's more like it. I think it's fair to say that if KD had kept some sort of form at the start, Gazzaniga would have been picking splinters out of his butt every week, and never got on the pitch.

Gazza looks a good prospect but (like Butland) has found out that youth has it's limitations. He will likely develop into a good keeper ....in the future.

Some keepers only get better with age. Go back far enough......we older types recall the legendary Pat Jennings still keeping for ..Arsenal and N.I. when he was ....44?

..not to mention Peter Shilton (then 33) who was scarcely in mid career when he joined us (later played 49 times for England... whilst with us) ...and continued to play League football until he was 47 !

I've always been impressed by Brad Freidal. ..and if the "young " Spurs manager wants to get rid of this aging custodian ...then more fool him. I think he'd be a great signing ...even for a season or two.

American keepers. Didn't we have Casey Keller for a spell at the Dell? (Possible my memory is playing tricks!)

Was in 2004/05, was fairly decent for us, played in goal when we beat Pompey IIRC.

well maybe not the FINAL piece, but we must build from the back and he would be a good start.

Isn't Lloris' disatisfaction only due to limited chances to play ? Having spent a few £m on him, I suspect AVB will want to justify the signing and promote his signing though, so Friedel might be sacrificed.

Pity that we can only sign him in Jan, unless Spurs agree to write off his contact now , which is unlikely. We can only get a loan gk as an emergency, and saying one is too youthful and the other two are crap at this level does not constitute an emergency.

Anyway, not sur about this, we don't have a good track record signing goalkeepers from Spurs do we ?

(only joking Friedel is still a class act).

well if you mean Tommy Forecast.....then I agree 100%, but we (who are longer in the tooth) can recall two former Spurs keepers we signed who did sterling service ....in the early 1960's.

Ron Reynolds and John Hollowbread. Both good, brave keepers who sadly (both) sustained career-killing injuries sustained .. " in the cause ".

"Saints may step in with a loan offer and make the move permanent in January."

says all I need to know tbh. If a qualified journalist can't even get the facts right about when players can and can't be bought in on loan then I'll consider the article to be a load of B.S.

I must have imagined him coming on as a sub for Shaw then....................

As for Brad Friedel.... YES PLEASE!!!!!!

I bow to your greater experience here , David.

As a relatively younger supporter, still only in my 50's, both Reynolds and Hollowbread precede my Saints supporting days by a fraction. Gurr & Martin were the earliest incumbents I recall, although at that time older relatives still brought up the name of Campbell Forsyth regularly.

If memory serves, did he pretend to conduct the Northam when they were singing an anti Skate song?

I remember a quote from him saying he was struggling to communicate with the defence as it was the loudest atmosphere he'd ever been involved in.

For 6 months short term it would be a brilliant signing, he was excellent at the start of the season for Spurs still producing would class saves. I can only presume he lost his place because Lloris made a fuss and Spurs spent a lot of money on him.

Posted

Unless I've misunderstood the rules, we surely couldn't sign him , even on loan, until January?

There is a faint possibility of an emeregency loan for a keeper, but that is normally only if all a club's senior keepers are injured, not just 'not quite good enough' .
