benjii Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Just wanted to say a big "well done" to the divs singing that yesterday. Brilliant stuff. It's racism but without actually saying a naughty. Very witty. Hats off to you. Thick fools.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Heard about 10-20 "lads" singing this in the block next to us, (must have been Z5) - glad to hear it didn't really 'take off', most casted glares and it stopped.
Mr X Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 The group singing this probably were playing share the brain cell!

Appy Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 People calling him a grass as well, shows how closely they followed the saga.
Colinjb Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Embarrassing, hope it was only a very small minority.
SuperMikey Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 What a bunch of idiots. Bet they wouldn't have been singing that walking round Shepherd's Bush..
sfc1976 Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 I must be an even bigger div, don't get it! What's he supposed to be and why is it offensive?

benjii Posted 18 November, 2012 Author Posted 18 November, 2012 You're sad Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume the sarcasm in my post wasn't obvious enough... Didn't hear this song at all.... Confused:? It never took off en masse (presumably because most of our fans aren't morons) but there was a pocket to the right that tried to sing it a few times. Quite pathetic.
Dangermouth Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Wasn't aware of it before but would have thought that it could as easily simply have meant 'cvvnt', which wouldn't have been a 'problem' had it been said and indeed was how I interpreted it. It could also have been 'f-g cvvnt', which is a bit harsh. He's probably just a tw*t as far as I can gather based on interviews he's given. Mind you, Rio usually comes across much better and he made a few stupid comments too. I don't think he qualifies as either, however. Someone who has started to be impressive is David James. Not stupid, as always, but a little less p.c. and just plainly intelligent and logical so hard to argue with. Would be interested to see how he gets on once he finally does hang up his boots and if he does decide to go into management. Kind of person I'd be quite happy to see at SFC in some role should events turn out that way (a long way ahead in the future).

So in short, one black footballer out of the three you mention has started to be impressive? Martin Luther King: you wasted your time.
corky morris Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 And what he called Ashley Cole isnt racist?? Isn't he mixed race as well??

MadDogMatt Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Having been one of the 3000+ fans at Loftus Road yesterday I didnt hear that chant at all and I dont mean in the Wenger style of not seeing Having said that as someone who follows Saints around the country week in week out London games bring out a few "wrongens" Nolan came in for abuse at West Ham, Millwall home and away last season had some edge from faces not seen at Walsall, West Brom etc The fans who travel week in week out, ee know those that dont We respect everyone who is a Saints fan but shame our club We dont need you Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
bender Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Stupid chant by childish people. Saything that I cannot stand Anton Ferdinand. Trying to get a fellow pro put in prison for a bit of f*cking name calling is appalling. Try and play the game in the eighties when every black player got it by both players and fans alike and were expected to just brush it off whilst getting paid hundreds of pounds a week not tens of thousands. What JT did was wrong but let the FA deal with it and, more to the point, let fans see the clips of him calling AF whatever he did. But criminal charges, seriously ?? Anton Ferdinand you are a disgrace !!! That was you are.

If something is wrong why should you just accept it?
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 I love it that everyone is quick to criticise and be offended by this chant. It could simply have been referring to the fact that Anton Ferdinand is not a very good defender and after his performance yesterday he certainly will know this. Maybe they were actually complimenting him on his self awareness and his fine character, determination and th bravery shown to take on the England captain in a courtroom. Oh no, we must assume it was racist and that these people were morons rather than fine upstanding soccerball fans either giving a player s bit of light hearted ribbing or actually praising him for his fine personal traits.

Yes, that well known football chant sung at players having a bad game. We certainly all know what you are.
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Yes, that well known football chant sung at players having a bad game. We certainly all know what you are. Is it a well known racist chant then? Why are you being personal just because I have pointed out you are clearly a judgemental type quick to leap to conclusions. It's not my problem, it's yours to deal with.
Colinjb Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Is it a well known racist chant then? I know you are fishing for bites, but either way: As far as I was aware. Yes. Thanks to a load of idiots at Chelsea.
Bearsy Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 To be fair it is well known racist chant Turkish. The Chelsea fans invented it after Terry called him a black c*nt. Other than the racisms, my main problem is copying chants off Chelsea. Inexcusable.
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 I know you are fishing for bites, but either way: As far as I was aware. Yes. Thanks to a load of idiots at Chelsea. But they could have meant, 'you know what you are' by singing that to mean he is a brave and moral chap. Couldn't they?
Bearsy Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 I reckon that's the defense they'd use in the Magistrate's court and they'd be found not-guilty cos of reasonable doubt. The FA disciplinary boys wouldn't be having it tho. Lesser burden of proof, apparently.
Colinjb Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 But they could have meant, 'you know what you are' by singing that to mean he is a brave and moral chap. Couldn't they? Of course they could Turkish, the incident between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand had nothing to do with it. They were calling him a liar.

Please tell me we're past the "I don't know what racism is" period of faux-cluelessness you espoused over the MOBOs.
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 FFS, Turks. Please tell me we're past the "I don't know what racism is" period of faux-cluelessness you espoused over the MOBOs. All I saying is that people are jumping to be judgemental and assuming it was meant in a racist way when it was entirely possible it might not have been.
Colinjb Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 All I saying is that people are jumping to be judgemental and assuming it was meant in a racist way when it was entirely possible it might not have been. Even for you Turkish.....
The Kraken Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 When it was sung at Anton Ferdinand by other fans, was it meant as a racist insult? Apart from it being utterly moronic, I'm not even sure what the purpose of the chant is.

Apart from it being utterly moronic, I'm not even sure what the purpose of the chant is. As someone who likes to see the good in everyone until proven otherwise I would like to think they were singing 'you know what you are' as praise for his bravery in him standing up to the racist thug that is John Terry. Others seem to be hoping there is a more sinister explanation.

Why are you being personal just because I have pointed out you are clearly a judgemental type quick to leap to conclusions. It's not my problem, it's yours to deal with. You misjudge benjii. I always like to look for the best in people until proven otherwise, and it's entirely possible he was calling you a valued poster and snappy dresser. Try not to leap to conclusions.

I always like to look for the best in people until proven otherwise, and it's entirely possible he was calling you a valued poster and snappy dresser. Try not to leap to conclusions. Good point. I apologise for being a mongboard chameleon and changing my colours to fit in with the posters around me. I shall stick to type in future.
Bearsy Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 That's a thinker. Oh, is that what you was doing? You was lampooning the hypocrisy of posters who are usually so quick to defend every aspect of Southampton no matter how pedantic, suddenly switching sides and hating on Southampton for this one? Sorry bro, missed that. Too subtle!
Lazlo78 Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Yes, the chanters in question clearly pinpoint Anton's fine display of self-knowledge as an object of praise. Only when Anton knows himself can he truly reach self-actualization, that highest goal of the late-modern human. Pretty straightforward. The real question is why 20 rogue psychologists went to the QPR away and decided to share their philosophical offerings with the masses...

If you can't work it out then maybe you are not as clever as you think you are.
Turkish Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Look whose popped up to stroke his mates c##k. If you can't work it out then maybe you are not as clever as you think you are. Another bitter posters lashing out personal insults and abuse to anyone who dare to question anything. It's people like you that are ruining this forum!
shurlock Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 But they could have meant, 'you know what you are' by singing that to mean he is a brave and moral chap. Couldn't they? When was the last time fans sung anything positive to an opposing player? Take your time, you'll need it. Don't know what's worse: a WUM or a WUM who hasn't got the brains to pull it off.

Quite a few Saints fans sang the Nathan Dyer song last week, you see Saints fans are different, we are above personal abuse.

This Charming Man Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 I was singing 'there's only one John Terry' for most of the game on Saturday. I shall also be chanting 'racist, racist' at him when we play Chelsea. I'm not racist, I'm just fickle.
