Lawro predicts 2-1 to Saints...

Southampton v Newcastle

All of a sudden it seems Newcastle cannot win a game and their manager Alan Pardew keeps getting fresh injuries to deal with too - the latest one being another key player in Yohan Cabaye.

So Pardew has a lot to contend with as he goes back to St Mary's and one of his former clubs - Southampton sacked him after they had beaten Bristol Rovers 4-0 in August 2010, when they were a League One club.

He would obviously love to go back and win but I don't see it happening.

I was really impressed by Saints in their win over QPR last week - they were really clever in that they heaped the pressure on Rangers and dominated the game in all areas. They were good to watch, too.

Saints handled the pressure of the whole day so well, and they were probably sat in the dressing room afterwards saying: "You know what, we can win games in this league."

Sometimes, teams have turning points in seasons. I just wonder if that might have been one for them.

I am not sure about Southampton keeper Paulo Gazzaniga, though. He got away with a couple of mistakes at Loftus Road and time will tell whether he is up to the standard required for the Premier League.

So 10 injuries AND Collocini suspended, AND they will be knackered from playing on only two days before AND they are in poor form AND we are at home.

Pretty much set up for a spectacular fail on our part then

Serious questions though if we can't beat a Newcastle side missing Cisse, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Collocini and Gutierrez, pretty much half their first choice line up. Imagine our team without Lambert, Lallana, Morgan, Gaston & Fonte :scared:

I reckon they will likely line up - Krul, Santon, Simpson, Williamson, Taylor, Tiote, Anita, Bigirama, Marveux, Ba, Sa Ameobi.

All except Tiote and Williamson played last night as well.

Of course it is sad that a very depleted magpies side will travel down on Sunday.. ha,ha,ha... he,he,he... ho,ho,ho. If we give Pards a huge south coast welcome that might knock his concentration as well so what's not to like?

The weather will probably mean a wash-out 'though, the SMS pitch as close as it is to the river will be very prone to flooding especially if the tide is in during the match. To be frank, it may not be worth going up at all as we'll all get drowned on the way even before the game is called-off - according to the BBC.

That's an important point....most teams struggle in the weekend games, if it's the same as the European squad. But most teams would have the ability to tweak it around so it isn't too problematic in the league game...but Newcastle can't do it at all. They will be without all their key players down the spine of their team, and they will be exhausted (and the European game was away...)

I would agree with everyone else s view, there is never a better time to play them. If we can't beat them with this lineup then we'll never beat them.

Stranger things have happened though, but with our new found confidence and their poor form, it's kind of pointing in the right direction...

They were at home so no travelling for them, however they couldn't really rotate, even Ba had to be pressed into action because of the Cisse injury and they struggled to a draw against Maritomo team that "yet to take a point or score a goal away from home in the competition." so we certainly should be fresher, we need to be right at them from the off to take advantage of any sluggishness they might have.

Newcastle played at home last night. take your point though, we could ask for better time to play them. Just hope we dont become complacent as they still have decent players upfront.

No actually that bit was quite serious. According to the BBC we will be 'dumped' on big time this weekend, torrentail rain, gale force winds and flooding.

Met Office app is saying heavy rain on Saturday, but Sunday will be dry and bright. Nothing to see here.

Yep agree with that. Any injury is a blow but we can survive without Lambert or ramirez certainly.

We only have one point this season without Ramirez. Agree though any defender would be a loss apart from Shaw arguably. Central mid we can handle I think, and have some decent players to come in there compared to other areas.

Gazza, Shaw or Puncheon would harm us least IMO.

In fact whilst not dissing Lambert it might be good to see what JRod could do without having the extra pressure of replacing a dropped Lambert. Lallana you can shuffle the midfield around a bit and Ramirez hasn't played enough games to be unreplaceable although a system change might be required again..

Cork or Stephens, take your pick. I'd go Stephens myself leaving Corky in midfield

I think it may be a case of wishful thinking re; Stephens considering Adkins wouldn't even play him in the League Cup, Adkins preferred Butterfield in those games.

Butterfield at RB in the Premier League is a chilling prospect.

We put out our jokest side at Leeds, we had no interest in winning whatsoever, probably some sort of contractual thing.
