dronskisaint Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Can't get much lower than his management record at Charlton though. Don't know what he does that we couldn't do without or why we persist with him. Yes his team management CV is pretty dire but surely that isn't the job he's employed to do? I read the OS and a few threads when he joined and thought that he'd fill the 'link between' job admirably...his behind the scenes and coaching CV seems (or seemed) to fit - I'm mystified as to why he's become a hate figure? Perhaps someone can enlighten me? I would be worried if I thought that he was being lined up to take over the 1st team job but (unless anyone knows...that's an important word by the way..I'll say it again - knows) different what's the issue? Genuine question?
Mowgli Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Yep, I think so too. NA appears to have convincingly made the case that if he be damned, he be damned on his own terms. You do realise that due ti injury illness, Ramirez, shaw and cork were not available for selection before the last couple of games?
ART Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Noticed yesterday Andy Crosbie was up and took over shouting on the touchline from Nigel who took a break sitting down. Maybe they are a double act, or about to come our as such. Didn't do Brian Cluff and Peter Taylor any harm working as Dual Managers. Anyone with issues with Matt Le Tiss needs to follow his son, the legend that was 13 year old Mitch Le Tissier. Matt hold's back on some issues but Mitch doesn't mince his opinions on Twitter. shurlock Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Can you prove this? Only according to the usual mongboard standards of proof. What is on the record is NA saying that he's followed Jrod's progress for a long, long time.

Genuine question? What we do know that he is very heavily involved with scouting and player recruitment. And we know he is on the transfer committee. Just how qualified or suitable for that role he is, well there's the point I guess.

Bearsy Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 This anonymous ransom note was received at St. Mary's before the Swansea game. I think it explains Cortese's apparent change of heart.

That alone wouldn't surprise me as Jrod ticks all the boxes: young, english, hardworking, intelligent- that he's looked for in players at scunny and at us. More inclined to believe that the committee's input has played a larger role in foreign signings.
Dig Dig Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Or that he has the oratorial skills to make it sound that way. I can never ever remember NA dissing a player and he's had some right jugs to deal with, like Dickson. Only time he ever sounded peeved with a player was with Punch. Don't forget Nigel made Jonnoquick sound good. Well Nigel did sign jonnoquick. Think you're clutching a little bit.

I genuinely appreciate the attempt at explanation but what is the point? I don't have the internet skills to dig out the various 'qualifications' and experience that he had on his arrival but can rememberr thinking that he was well-connected on a number of levels...team management obviously not being one of them! We've had good and bad transfer signings in his time with us....who decides who it was on the committee that mooted the names. I think that Jonno was probably the only one with a direct blood line to NA...oh and Billy Sharp? I'm guessing the rest are a combination of recommendation, good or bad scouting and being as scientific as it's possible to be as to whether they'll fit in on game, personality etc with our squad. Some (Barny and Billy Sharp spring to mind - Dickson (he had made L1 team of the year the previous season) were bought with getting us out of the division as quickly as possible and providing depth of L1/NPC squad quality - others - Ricky, Fonte, Punch, Richardson perhaps were bought on more long term thinking. This, of course, being with the benefit of hindsight...in two years time what will we be saying about the current crop of signings? Seeing Vlaar, Buttner et al reminds me that we tried to sign players for the PL...who chose them? Who knows?
St_Tel49 Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Agree Swansea were poor against us. And QPR were even worse - before playing us, they had scored only 3 goals at home all season. If our defense wanted a confidence boost, couldn't think of two softer sides. Perhaps they were that poor because we made them so - just a thought! Lord Duckhunter Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 I think you can bet your old boots that when Pardew was in charge there was no transfer committee. I bet Pardew is not in sole charge of transfer dealings at Newcastle, and he certainly wasn't at West Ham . And why did he only pick Mascherano 5 times, was there outside interference or did he just not rate him?

CB Saint Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Both backing the manager and team but Matt suggesting that Nigel wasn't picking the team, squad or transfers. Whilst the guest journalist cast doubt on this and offered some praise for Cortese. Do you think the hordes will be out for blood? Then maybe mlt should offer congratulations to NC for picking Saturdays team and getting tactics right.

The media should definitely speak to Doris as opposed to one of our greatest ever players, our most successful ever manager and one of our greatest servants of the past era. The media should definitely speak to Doris as opposed to one of our greatest ever players, our most successful ever manager and one of our greatest servants of the past era. I've heard whenever papers quote 'a saints insider' as giving the inside scoop on a story, it is in fact Doris the tea lady. I've also heard that she has an anti NC agenda though after she was bitter that Jordan Sibley is now the only one allowed to make NC his afternoon tea and crumpets so she's not to be trusted.
