saintbob40 Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 there was an interesting thread on Cork playing as a CB the other week where some of the larger "characters" on this board were quite happy to slag him off generally. I was quite happy to point out that they were clueless ****wits who knew the square root of **** all about football. Now everyone is on the Cork bandwagon apparently albeit some with a graduated climb down. As posted previously Gazzaniga is not good enough and Kelvin needs to return. We may need to buy a keeper during the next transfer window.
david in sweden Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 (edited) No it wasn't. Chaplow was good in division 2 and helped us get to the top flight, but no one ever said "Chaplow is pure class and amazing and a future legend". True, but he did come in a time when Lallana was injured and we went on a 7 game unbeaten run, when he really played some wonderful football.....and bagged two goals into the bargain. When he was injured in the defeat by Bristol City, we lost it in midfield and managed only two wins in eight games and neither Guly or De Ridder were adequate replacements. It may be ...if given the chance ...he might regain that form but nothing this season suggests he's better than the regulars we have now. Good quality facts to back up what everyone could see that his work rate, off the ball running, closing down of opponents and ridiculous number of interceptions meant we dominated teams leading to eventual wins. He's never had the touch for the Prem, but no one should underestimate the good things he did for us last season helping us to promotion.

He also scored a cracking goal against Man U in the cup a couple of seasons back....

The surgery he had done on his knee is to blame - not that it went wrong or anything but once the scalpel/arthroscopy device goes in, it is often touch and go. up and away Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 At the start of last season I did not know how good the football we were playing or Cork's contribution, The samba football continued for a good while but Corks form wavered with the work load he had to do. I said at the start of this season we would have to find that form to stand a chance of staying up. Well Cork is that missing link that gets all the other pieces to tick and elevates the team to something that can compete in the Premier. When you get a sufficient volume of players passing and moving the ball as we did, you get opposition players just looking at each other with no effective strategy. Cork cannot achieve this without the help of others but he is without doubt the catalyst for what happened. Got to be very careful to factor in how bad QPR were but at least we have a foundation now upon which we can load with hope. Stuart Pearce, how did you mess up our start to this season so easily. Take that 21 side and go compare how many will fit up your arse.
