Draino76 Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Its quite clear Jack Cork has made all the difference acting as a defensive shield in front of our defense. Since he has been back we are not letting in 2/3/4/5/6 goals; its just the one; even with our horrific keepers. Thank god he is back, he is possibly the single most important man for Saints until the next transfer window opens. COYFR!

Smirking_Saint Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 I wouldnt say he has plugged it, its given us much more protection. It helps that we have asettled back four, Shaw looks good and yoshi certainly isnt as bad as the wrist slitters are saying. He has definately helped though, better than I remember him
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 I don't think there's much (any) doubt that we're a significantly better team when Jack Cork plays - given the job he did for us last season this is hardly a surprise. As for the keeper situation, OK we won today but I'm starting to think there may be a case for Kelvin's recall.

brightspark Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Cork has done really well in both games and has certainly contributed to those 4 points, but he has played games against Swansea and QPR, which cannot compare to some of the tougher games we had in the early stages of this season. Lets see how he goes against the big boys!

derry Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 problem is Boruc and Davis have been worse He's let in 10 in 6, Davis 14 in 4, Boruc 6 in 2. I know who I prefer. The back four looked solid as did Cork and Schneiderlin with the other four playing well. This might be the best team whilst the substitutions fitted in. Wes Tender Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Could it be that Cork and Ramirez were the players whose absence was instrumental in our poor form when they were both out injured? OK, it's only QPR, but it is a team full of players who at least on paper look half decent and Flyer has assured us that they're far better than us. This result and the last match with this team do lead me to at least hope that they will grow as a team with matches played together as a unit and could equal most of the teams around us for skill and promise and with belief, they could cause an upset or two. ART Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 I've been a hug3 fan of Jack since he returned to the club. For me. Jack is a true Saint and gives everything to his game. It's no surprise to see the defence playing much better since his return from injury. Have to say a good word for Luke Shaw who is getting better every game. Disappointed JWP isn't involved as I believe he'll link up so well with Cork and Shaw and provide the team with excellence. Think that Kelvin should get some play when Gazza shows signs of losing it. Still think Gazza is one for the long haul.

derry Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 It's all very well changing the goalkeeper but the two centre backs look much more comfortable in front of Gazzaniga. We haven't picked up a point when Davis and Boruc have played. Fonte looks nervous playing with Davis and not a lot better in front of Boruc but our best centre back in front of Gazzaniga. Gazzaniga didn't come off the line v Spurs but several times today he was caught out. Gazzaniga hasn't been beaten at his near post and at least three of the goals were deflected. Boruc was poor v WHU not particularly good v Spurs, Whilst Davis was awful.

Just back from the game and Cork, Lallana and Puncheon were excellent. Rickie did well, still not sure about Gaston. Pleased to see him put in a tackle or two, but was pushed of the ball easily a couple of times. Just one bad gaffe from Yoshida today, who nearly scored a cracker, and did ok otherwise, as did Fonte. Shaw was decent as was Clyne. Not too impressed with Gaza though. All round a decent performance and thank **** for 3 points at last

Not sure that he is a better player, I am certainly a morgan fan but if he is employed differently to how he sometimes is in a saints shirt. The way he picks a pass or sees a pass more like is at times very very good. Cork gives him the right platform to play though, box to box, full of energy and not scared to put a tackle in, thus releasing Morgan to play a more expansive passing game. Didn't Davis have to face both Manachester teams and Arsenal though even the BBC called Gazza the weak link in the team in todays match report The manager responded by sending on Jamie Mackie at the break and a sense of urgency was rewarded after 49 minutes when Hoilett flicked Taarabt's cross over Gazzaniga, who had looked the weak link in Saints' performance. for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 The thing I like about him is that he both defends really high up the pitch and also offers us protection on the edge of the box. He quite often appears alongside Rickie chasing the ball down and forcing the opposition back, and also sits right in front of the back 4 when the pressure is really on. Crazy Diamond Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 I've definitely seen signs of improvement with regards to our defence. Yoshida looks decent, I'm not noticing mistakes in Fonte and Clyne so much. Is it because Cork is back? He's certainly added a certain something, but I couldn't say our defensive improvement is down to him and him alone.

As a matter of interest Gazzaniga has been in goal in all the games we have picked up points. Correct, but argueably those games have been against the " weaker opposition " we've had to play so far. In the Villa game we were so superior and he had only 2 saves to make..but that ridiculous kick out to Yoshida in the Swansea game put it on a plate for Dye and cost us 2 points, and what was he doing coming out to Hollett in yesterday's match?. If he'd stayed on his line he'd had better chance of taking the shot. Good job we had two. The defence is better with Yoshida playing a central role and Cork in front of the back four, but excellent prospect Gazza may be, but I'd like a more experienced keeper when we meet Liverpool and Chelsea. Chez Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 It's not just Cork coming in, it's Ramirez and Shaw too, plus a tighter formation, better ball retention, less gung-ho fullbacks, a defence taking less chances in possession and weaker opponents. Cork has played well though and long may it continue.
david in sweden Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 If KD had committed the errors that Gazza has committed in the last two games he would have been slaughtered by some people not standing too far from here. Agreed, and it's easy to blame KD for the Arsenal result, but our defence was helpless that day against a rampaging Arsenal side - and our two " own goals" didn't help the scoreline either. david in sweden Posted 18 November, 2012 Share Posted 18 November, 2012 Same was said about Chaplow this time last year ....and that was true...then.. However, to be fair RC's injury in the Bristol City game really set him back and he was out for nearly 3 months. When he got back, he only looked a shadow of his former self, and he's not much better this season.
