corsacar saint Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Delighted,if we can build on this performance, with our next two home games, things could really start to look up. Perhaps is the time to take Gazza out of the firing line,on todays performance,he is definately one for the future, I just feel we need experience behind the back 4 at present. [ Unless of course the players, prefer him in goal. Special word for Punch today, for he was superb by all accounts and I am delighted to see Rickie get on the score sheet and well done to Luke Shaw as well. St Marco Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Just on the train home now and thought we were superb. In every area we were better then them including the support. They are up there with the worst fans I have seen. Zero support at all. Even when we go behind we stay behind the team. Our fans were amazing and I just wish I could afford to go to more away games this year! Puncheon was motm by far but I think Cork and Morgan deserve some praise too as they worked very hard for each other and tried to stop them playing. Defence wise we looked a lot better but Yoshi got caught out a few times which is a bit worrying. I think in January if he has not improved his concentration then he will be the one to be making way for a new defender. When Rickie went to the ground after scoring his goal I thought he was badly injured as don't see him go stay on the ground often. Thank feck he was alright as that was a scary moment. If we lost him then we really would be up against him. Also I noticed that 4 of the next 5 games are at home so we should hopefully start picking up the points needed to get away from the bottom three. Well done Saints and well done Nige for not doing some odd tactics after we were winning again. I think he is finally learning!

jawillwill Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 There's a video of Adkins interview on Saints Player now. The first 10-15 seconds of the video show the crowd celebrating (which I think is at the end of the match). It shows Gazza high fiving loads of Saints fans....the win clearly meant a lot to him, which despie his misrtake for the goal, is nice to see. Suomi Saint Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Puncheon was MOM....just superb. Saints played with a high intensity, which was pleasing to see at last. Cork and Shaw have made a big difference. Davis for Ramirez was an inspired substitution by Adkins. At that point we were starting to struggle, but as soon as Davis came on we penned them in their half. Gazza....oh dear. We need a new keeper pronto. The lad might be okay in a couple of years, but he isn't up to it yet. It's so frustrating how we pepper the opposition's goal and still give silly goals away. A 3-1 away win is excellent, especially as Saints dominated the game from start to finish. The January window will decide our PL fate. I hope that we are looking for a player who is on the same wavelength as Ramirez - we will score a hatful if we can find someone.

Flyer Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Well done on the win, I was hoping youd score 2 or 3 more to help get Hughes out. For those that go on about Adkins tactics, bringing on a sub and going to 5 in midfield turned the game when Saints were losing control. Hughes is clueless so Im hoping that this is the final straw. Only 3 players tried for us today, Nelsen, Taarabt and Mackie.

supersonic Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 Everyone on played well today, special mention to the defence, they've clearly worked very hard and it paid off today. Shaw looked excellent. Puncheon gets my vote for MOTM just about. He was all over the place today, and yeah, his finishing was a bit off but he got so many opportunities because QPR couldn't deal with him. Cork has come on leaps and bounds since last season. Lallana is a credit to our club, his energy, work rate, passion... outstanding. I hope he's here for a long time to come. eelpie Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 The result is a great tribute to all the players who grafted out a deserved win when at times we were actually looking quite insecure. That is the reality. It was by no means as easy a win as the BBC report suggests, but this is no time for sourgrapes because we surely deserved an away win on merit at last and we were by far the better footballing side. First, weaknesses. Saints players looked nervous and timid for much of the match. QPR outjumped us and tackled, intercepted and blocked better. (This must be the only reason that BBC stats gave QPR 53% possession). Their passing was less erratic than Saints in midfield, and they frequently so easily cut though our candyfloss defence via the wings time and time again. In attack only Puncheon and Lallana were positive upfront. Only Puncheon's shooting looked dangerous. Too much negative interpassing when there were good opportunities to shoot. Lambo did not look fit, he was so slow. And at the back once again there was too much backtracking, relinquishing ground when there were opportunities to tackle. We were not always on top and a better side would have capitalised on our mistakes. We will not benefit from such leniency v Newcastle. From my viewpoint on the stands I did not expect us to hold on to our lead because we were giving the ball away too frequently in dangerous positions. That we did owes everything to Puncheon's determination and Cork's steel in midfield. But fair play to the team as we really are learning to fight to win back the ball. After the third goal, and for the last ten minutes, everyone relaxed and showed the world what a good footballing side we can be. Well done guys! But pleeeeese get those frailties sorted by tomorrow week!

From what I can tell of the match reports our first goal seems to have been exactly the same time that the fat German next to me decided to spill his Bloody Mary into my lap. Still. IF I have to do this routine everyweek now, the matchday thread can add "The Lucky Wipe off by a Hostie" to it's list of lucky fag breaks/bathroom trips/Nuns etc. Got the final score on the BBC feed on the plane as we came into to land (Could tell Eric had finished work - we came straight in no going round in endless circles) Seems I woke a few people up with the WOO HOO Onwards and upwards

pingwing Posted 17 November, 2012 Share Posted 17 November, 2012 (edited) Took the gf for her first game of real football (being an Irish gaa fan she needed to be shown real football) and what a great match to show what is so special about watching Southampton. We dominated and all they had was SHEAR PACE as an attack, kept having to explain to her (and the shouty bloke in front) that where we killed the pace out of the game was giving us everything as they couldn't play slowly, string a decent set of passes together or inject pace into their play. Outstanding performance overall. For me MOTM was Lambert and Cork, between them they showed up how clueless Hughes is. They had 3 guys on him and couldn't touch Lambert for 90 mins, that was amazing to watch. Cork is the messiah, he's winning the ball in front of the back 4, he's getting it in the middle and he's pushing it forward. If Cork smashed that shot in he would have been the hottest property in England after that performance. Thought Gazza had an alright game, wasn't sure how their goal happened but his general performance was nice and assured, put himself behind the ball, made some good catches and made some essential touches to keep us in the dominant position. No way Kelvin would have done that and Boruc seems to be out of favour so stick behind him. No idea how people think Punch was MOTM though, first 40 mins he was TERRIBLE, lost the ball, was in the wrong places and couldn't be bothered to run about. When he scored though it all came good. Sometimes people are too impressed by chances and not by overall performance. Gaston was good, but still isn't really match fit. Davis coming on for him was a master stroke, taking the deeplying defensive duties from Davis and giving him the forward going midfield duties makes him into an excellent player that I always thought he was. Can't praise his second half performance enough pushing QPR hard. Other notable mentions to Shaw and Clyne who were both quick, decisive and generally good at the back. Shaw isn't 90 mins ready yet but will be there soon enough and it seems cruel not being able to give Clyne a rest sometimes as he was the only counter to Hoillets SHEAR PACE. Overall for us, every player gets an 8/10, with Lambert getting a 10 and Cork getting 10 for just being so important to us. For everything to make sense in football Hughes has to be sacked tomorrow as QPR were awful, no tactics, no plan, lots of disjointed hoof and a lot of utter failure. Their best player was Cesar who kept the score line respectable (Green in goal would have made it 6-7) and Hoillet would have been a nice alternative to Punch, but not an upgrade. They have to go down though. Can't stop smiling Finally the Adkins support was great to be a part of, from the off all our fans were really singing for him and the team which was brilliant. Exactly the thing that needs to keep going for him, just looking at the booing of Hughes made me smile that at very least we see the sensible thing to do for the best manager we can get at the moment. Can't see who could turn QPR around or keep them up when our Nige is our Nige and should remain so. Edited 17 November, 2012 by pingwing

Even Adkins stated it was his best game in a saints shirt, watching online he was instrumental in the first half, retaining the ball, linking play and distributing well going forward as well as pulling their full back all over the place. He seems to be striking up a great rapport with Clyne and alongside Cork was our most impotant player today for me. Aside from Gazza everyone played brilliantly today mind. Nice place to be where we can debate who did the best for us in a 3-1 win!
