ChudSaint Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 My old man was clearing his loft the other day and found a load of my old Saints shirts, wanted to share them with someone... Got a couple more from the 80s too that haven't got round to photographing yet, just felt the need to share these as they almost bought me to tears yet the wife doesn't seem interested...
bender Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 I had the Rank Xerox one it I'ld say it was that size too.
ChudSaint Posted 16 November, 2012 Author Posted 16 November, 2012 I recon that was my little brothers actually, it's smaller than the candy strips yet we all know that come first. Still hoping he'll find mine and several others that a decent father would of kept
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Turns out I follow you on Twitter then as I saw these earlier... Love the Rank Xerox kit, tis awesome.
alpine_saint Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Did the Rank Xerox kit always have the black bordering between red and white ? I dont remember it.
ChudSaint Posted 16 November, 2012 Author Posted 16 November, 2012 Couple of others we found, can see my office now being redecorated this weekend...

richie Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 What was the first kit that was avaliable for supporters to buy? Looking at my old shirts my first was 1991-93 Draper tools. Got it on xmas day 1991. Happy days
bpsaint Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Love the 1977 candy striped shirt. Did the one available to the fans not include the cup winners badge like the team had?
ChudSaint Posted 16 November, 2012 Author Posted 16 November, 2012 Can't remember the badge on the candy stripes, sure it had one on there once though. Marks on the shirt suggest that it was sewn on so recon my mum probably unstiched it and sewed it on something else when I outgrew it.. Trying to find photographic evidence to prove said point though failing at the moment...
Cricketphilly Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Rank Xerox one was the first one I bought, from New Milton Sports.

Got it on xmas day 1991. Happy days First ones I've seen that were overtly branded and sold in sports shops as "proper" replicas (in kids' sizes) were the first Patrick kits, a kid in my junior school had the Rank Xerox away kit, which is only weird when you bear in mind I went to school over 100 miles from Southampton. Newport County's amber Patrick-made replica was also for sale around the same time, so they were clearly centrally produced in a similar way to today.
Colinjb Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 (edited) Fantastic collection there. It was my understanding that replica shirts were available in the 70's/80's but that it was simply not the done thing to wear them. The culture changed when kids, who wore the shirts grew up and wanted to continue the trend into Adulthood, by which time the practice became more accepted. Edited 16 November, 2012 by Colinjb
RonManager Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 I bought one from the club shop prior to the 76 Cup Final.

Thank you for that. Suddenly I was sat in the West Stand
The9 Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 I bought one from the club shop prior to the 76 Cup Final. I think it's a matter of branding and consistency, and where you draw the line regarding what the club was selling. From my vague recall as a kid in the 70s there seem to have been quite a few "pseudo-replicas" around prior to the 1980s and what you got often depended on what the club was happy to sell as "replicas" - things like the replica not being made by the same manufacturer (whether visible on labels or on the shirt itself as you'd expect now), and whether there was a club badge on the shirt or replica all seem to be a lot less consistent prior to the 80s. There were loads of instances of mums sewing badges onto random shirts too... The candy striped shirt above being a case in point. Saints shirts had a badge on, the Admiral replicas clearly didn't -does that make them less "valid"? So having said all that, did yours have a manufacturer logo, was it the same as the shirts the players wore, and did the Saints shirts and the shirt you bought have a badge on (or were they consistent through both being unbadged) ?
theyin Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 They look straight out of the packaging. As I recall, my away Xerox had all sorts of nicks and pulls by the tIme it had it. Pure class though. Think I'd have a tear if I found this little lot. Apps, the black detailing between was on the later Patrick kits. Pretty sure Keegan never had black on the shirt apart from the collar.
ando Posted 17 November, 2012 Posted 17 November, 2012 Had the 76 cup final kit, I remember it being Admiral but don't think it had the club badge on it.
