alpine_saint Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 FFS, nightwaatchmen NEVER work. Why do England persist in using them ???
trousers Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Cue a list of high scoring night watchmen...
alpine_saint Posted 16 November, 2012 Author Posted 16 November, 2012 3 down. F**king useless Watch Pietersen smack a 4 then throw his wicket away tonight.
Sour Mash Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 This was an absolutely massive toss to win. Opportunity for the team batting first, rack up a huge total and see the side backing second struggle under pressure and a deteriorating pitch.
Lets B Avenue Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 This was an absolutely massive toss to win. Opportunity for the team batting first, rack up a huge total and see the side backing second struggle under pressure and a deteriorating pitch. Especially, if they are facing 2 front-line spinners. Not 1 plus a couple of makeshifts.
dinger Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 FFS, nightwaatchmen NEVER work. Why do England persist in using them ??? I've never understood the point of them either. Why, when batting gets really tricky, do you bring a bowler in to do it? I can understand you wouldn't want to lose another top order batsman in a hurry, but by bringing in a tail-ender you're inviting the loss of another wicket, at which point you'll have to bring in the top order anyway. I think it's a relic of the last century that'll fade away; with the rise of T20 it's getting harder to find genuine, patient, time-serving batsmen at the top of the order, let alone expecting blockers amongst the tail.

Who then also loses his wicket, meaning another top-order batsman. Its f**king ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as Englands inability to play spin. Really surpsied that Pietersen didnt throw his wicket away. Has his exclusion from the T20 tournament somehow made him grow up ?
Sour Mash Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Especially, if they are facing 2 front-line spinners. Not 1 plus a couple of makeshifts. Would you have had Panesar in? I'm not a massive fan of his, but guess he's all we've got to fall back on in terms of a recognised 2nd spinner.
krissyboy31 Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Night watchmen are my pet hate in cricket. Batsman are paid to bat, so f'ing get out there and grow some balls!!
Danny R Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 Wow! who could have predicted this????? Oh....everyone.

As he's been selected for the tour party and we are not exactly blessed with high class test standard spinners. Yes. What the feck was Bresnan doing out there? Even if he gets a hundred tomorrow (and we may need it:scared: ) it was a daft selection.
dinger Posted 16 November, 2012 Posted 16 November, 2012 What England have missed recently is Paul Collingwood. Not so much for his place in the the batting line-up, although the frequency of middle order collapses has increased alarmingly without his obdurate stickability, but more for the way he kept the whole team honest. The hallmark of the ascendant England team of 2010-11 was how they were absolutely on it for every delivery, with bat or ball. They never let the opposition settle. I don't think they have that any more. Teams are allowed to get in their own groove, England are sloppy in the field and give up too easily.

We bat a long way down anyway, with the likes of Swann and Broad regularly contributing with runs regularly.

Definitely sloppier in the field of late, could well be due to the departure of Collingwood.

Trader Posted 17 November, 2012 Posted 17 November, 2012 What's Pietersen doing there? He lives in Chelsea FFS!
CB Saint Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 What's Pietersen doing there? He lives in Chelsea FFS! Playing like a t0sser
saints_is_the_south Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Didn't see this fight back coming tbh. Need to bat through until after lunch tomorrow to get a draw.
krissyboy31 Posted 18 November, 2012 Posted 18 November, 2012 Just goes to show what a joke the original selection was. No second (specialist) spinner and Prior at No 7 because they don't have confidence in him at 6. Patel is not good enough to play 6 either and not good enough as second spinner.
dinger Posted 23 November, 2012 Posted 23 November, 2012 Well this is a considerably better start to a test. And the reversal of that baffling decision to play Bresnan in preference to Monty pays big dividends straight away. This Pujara fella is awesome though, looks like a genuine star in the making. I wonder if any of the England top order can bat as carefully and as unflappably on this wicket? It's the sort of situation where you really want Cook to step up and dictate the tone and pace of the innings.

It's the sort of situation where you really want Cook to step up and dictate the tone and pace of the innings. Up to a point I agree and certainly the moronic decision to omit Monty has been reversed. India are still well on top after Anderson and Broad have criminally wasted the 2nd new ball. At least Jimmy bowled decently with the first one but I'd still like to see him bowling nearer 85mph. Broad has been terrible, he must be big mates with Cook and Flower to still be in the side. Even Cook gave him some foul looks after yet another slow-medium 77mph long hop got cut for 4. His batting has gone totally as well. Best to cruel to be kind and say he won't feature v NZ away/home and Ashes home, needs a full season with Notts to get the spite back in his bowling and some time at the crease. If he has a good summer, he could be considered for the Aussie Tour. Will be glad to see Finn fit again and Meaker get a few Tests to see if he is ready for the Aussies. Onions would do better than Broad or Bresnan. Well done Monty and Swann (again). 300+ for India is a big score on that surface with our depleted batting line up and the surface really starting to turn. Pujara looks a superb prospect and Ashwin has batted well too, should love bowling on that pitch too.
Thedelldays Posted 5 December, 2012 Posted 5 December, 2012 I see panesar is tearing into them yet again...great player. seems even more daft to have left him out first test..but they have kept him in....
dinger Posted 6 December, 2012 Posted 6 December, 2012 Cook Another fantastic knock. There was never really any doubt in my mind that he would become one of the greats, but I think we can safely say he's now there. I maybe terribly old fashioned, but there's nothing I enjoy more in sport than watching Cook and Trott accumulate. They've got that perfect test approach of playing every delivery on its merits while retaining an awareness of the context of the match.
skintsaint Posted 7 December, 2012 Posted 7 December, 2012 Funniest and easiest dropped catch I've seen in a while!
Hatch Posted 7 December, 2012 Posted 7 December, 2012 509/6 at close. Lead of nearly 200. Looking in a good position.
Sour Mash Posted 8 December, 2012 Posted 8 December, 2012 Brilliant effort and performance from England, such a tough place to tour and get wins.
Hatch Posted 14 December, 2012 Posted 14 December, 2012 4th test latest Eng 330 all out India 72 / 4 Tendulkar out for just 2. Could this be the beginning of the end for Sachin?
Turkish Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 Another century for Trott I see and England looking good for a series win. Massive achievement given our dodgy summer.
PhilippineSaint Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 As they are now 278 ahead should put the Indians in and try to bowl them out in the last session.
dubai_phil Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 Keep batting. Refuse to finish early. Grind them into the dust. Sit back and watch the infighting afterwards in India with a well deserved tinnie

Sit back and watch the infighting afterwards in India with a well deserved tinnie This has it's merits but in the spirit of fair play ( Obviously I'm not a Skate) I would have liked to see the Indians have a go at a target. They would have gone for it as a 20/20 game and been out for 120.

Why on earth would England have wanted to offer India a chance to win?
Frank's cousin Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 Batting out and ensuring no chmace of an India win is fair and right IMHO. Diiferent if say a day or two lost to rain etc..
Appy Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 Do all of England's historic series win start off with a negative post by Alpine?
dinger Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 Do all of England's historic series win start off with a negative post by Alpine? To be fair, he made a good point. And at least there was no claim that England had 'thrown the series away' this time...
Appy Posted 17 December, 2012 Posted 17 December, 2012 To be fair, he made a good point. And at least there was no claim that England had 'thrown the series away' this time... No that's true, I did stay away from saying he predicted all doom and gloom, all his points were valid.
PhilippineSaint Posted 5 January, 2013 Posted 5 January, 2013 When do the England team fly back down for the remainder of the series?

krissyboy31 Posted 11 January, 2013 Posted 11 January, 2013 Shocking bowling from Dernbach. Can't for the life of me see how he's an international bowler. Think I fancy scoring off him and I haven't picked up a bat in 15 years.
krissyboy31 Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 The pie thrower is back on. Our one day bits and pieces bowling attack is truly woeful! Play your best team FFS!!!
Window Cleaner Posted 23 January, 2013 Posted 23 January, 2013 see Bresnan has just gifted India the match then, barring a miracle that is..14 off an over FFS.
