Turkish Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 i like us being described as one of Europes heavyweights, as long as they arent talking about Boruc.
notnowcato Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Maybe "Saints watch...." would have been a more appropriate title
The Kraken Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 I love how these stories come out every now and then; as if Premier League clubs don't have a whole base of scouts who are reviewing certain targets at games every single week. But then I suppose the headline "One of Saints' scouts watches a player" isn't that great a headline.

Bensfcno1 Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 WOW! 3 goals in 10 games in Serie B? What a player he must be, might make double figures by the end of the season! What awful journalism
buctootim Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 you score 6, we'll score 5. awesome. Like
John B Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 WOW! 3 goals in 10 games in Serie B? What a player he must be, might make double figures by the end of the season! What awful journalism I dont see that the journalism is poor but I do think that you just want to criticise. The article quotes the Italian football club as saying that Southampton are monitoring the progress of an 18 year old in Serie B Surely is good that SFC are looking everywhere for young talent to develop

The article quotes the Italian football club as saying that Southampton are monitoring the progress of an 18 year old in Serie B Surely is good that SFC are looking everywhere for young talent to develop Yes but in the right positions we have ZERO need for another attacking player none so i find it hard to believe were looking at buying this dude
John B Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 Yes but in the right positions we have ZERO need for another attacking player none so i find it hard to believe were looking at buying this dude What if we sold Lambert in the window or he got injured then we would need someone it is better to see who is around and what they are like instead of panicing at the last moment. It does not say we are going to buy him just monitoring him that is what scouts do I thought
hypochondriac Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 I really hope the management understand that one of the reasons we are in this mess is because we have brought in a shed load of young players with potential for every single position. Hope we have learnt our lesson...
trousers Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 I really hope the management understand that one of the reasons we are in this mess is because we have brought in a shed load of young players with potential for every single position. Hope we have learnt our lesson... I know it's against the forum thought police rules to mention where we were 3 years ago but I wouldn't choose the word "mess" to describe where we are at the moment in time.
The Kraken Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 What if we sold Lambert in the window or he got injured then we would need someone it is better to see who is around and what they are like instead of panicing at the last moment. It does not say we are going to buy him just monitoring him that is what scouts do I thought I think you're wasting your breath, John. It seems to be common thinking on here that because we're having a look at one player we can't possibly be looking at any others at the same time. The rest of our whole scouting network is sat around twiddling its thumbs while one or two of our scouts check the progress of a cheap young foreign future prospect.
Toomer Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 Yes but in the right positions we have ZERO need for another attacking player none so i find it hard to believe were looking at buying this dude At the moment we don't need another forward but the lad is only 18, in three to four years time he could be just the player we are looking for, get him at the right price now instead of paying mega bucks in the future.
del boy Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 Maybe "Saints watch...." would have been a more appropriate title or maybe "agent claims that Saints watch Domenico Berardi"
saint-crinny Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 Bizarre reaction on here as usual - a highly rated young striker attracting attention and we are 'supposedly' one of the ones monitoring. Not sure what the problem is - why would we not want to be keeping a check on Europe's supposed superstars in the making? Yes we need some defenders, but clearly he would be a signing for the future if we did actually do anything about our interest, so what's the issue? Every club in the league is probably aware of him. In no way does this mean that we arent interested in adding to our defence as soon as possible, in January Just moaning for the sake of it as usual - would people be happy on here if the club issued a statement saying, "Due to our current defensive troubles we are not even considering tracking young talent in Europe in any other position, even if this means that we miss on players who turn out to be world beaters." I would be irritated if we werent tracking talent across Europe - there are probably hundreds of players that we are looking at that - and this fella's agent is probably just doing his job and circulating a few club's names in the media.

Exactly. If he's cheap and deemed a hot prospect, could be a good investment, if it doesnt stop us from strengthening for the now too. Worth looking at some of the youngsters Liverpool have started playing this season - all look pretty handy, and were brought in over the past few years for fairly small outlays.
Thedelldays Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 Yes but in the right positions we have ZERO need for another attacking player none so i find it hard to believe were looking at buying this dude Such short term mentality
Itchen_block4 Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 The ambition is for a front 3. That's 3 strikers or possibly very attack-minded wingers. The kids teams do it already.
scotty Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 I like his name. Buy Him. Finally, somebody talking sense on this thread. Sign him up.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 12 January, 2014 Author Posted 12 January, 2014 Just scored 4 goals in about 30 minutes. Was 2-0 to AC Milan... ..now Sassuolo 4-2 AC Milan. His 16th goal in 17 games this season. Still only 19.

Kingsland Red Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 He is on loan from Juve, so probably a slightly more complex situation than tempting Sassuolo with a large bid…..
Badger Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 He is on loan from Juve, so probably a slightly more complex situation than tempting Sassuolo with a large bid….. But we seem to like those complex deals.
Saint Charlie Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 This guy is going to be a superstar. Apparantly only started playing football a few years ago. Still, good to know our scouts are identifying good talent.

tedmaul Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 I like the fact we are "chasing" him. Les Reed as Benny Hill.
Barry Sanchez Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Liverpool and City can afford to gamble on this type of player as they have the quality already in their squad, we dont, assured quality at a higher price at this time is needed, gambles are not.
farawaysaint Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 I can't see why anyone would think this would be a bad buy? Brilliant stats for his age and we'd at least recover our investment.
Cascadia Saint Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 I really hope the management understand that one of the reasons we are in this mess is because we have brought in a shed load of young players with potential for every single position. Hope we have learnt our lesson... Mess? Behave.
Bearsy Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 poor old hypo getting mugged off for the dumb things he said 14 months ago! What is statute of limitations on saying dumb things?
Bucks Saint Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Liverpool and City can afford to gamble on this type of player as they have the quality already in their squad, we dont, assured quality at a higher price at this time is needed, gambles are not. Buying a young player with potential for future seasons, at a sensible price, is a gamble?
Barry Sanchez Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Buying a young player with potential for future seasons, at a sensible price, is a gamble? Like Ramirez? Mayuka? All players have potential, that lazy, buying one from the second tier who has scored 3 goals in 10 games is a gamble, of course it is, one the big clubs with quality squads can afford to do, you disagree?

All signings are a gamble but i did not know that we cant afford to make this one. Is our window budget limited to one signing?
Barry Sanchez Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 All signings are a gamble but i did not know that we cant afford to make this one. Is our window budget limited to one signing? Some are more assured than others, hence differing values.
farawaysaint Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 I agree! we should follow the Fulham/Stoke method and only buy proven pros in their 30s.
Bearsy Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 so just to recap, cortese wanted to sign this guy in 2012 but was persuaded not to by people on here. Juventus signed him instead + now he is tearing up Serie A scoring 16 in 17. Well done forum experts!
Wes Tender Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Like Ramirez? Mayuka? All players have potential, that lazy, buying one from the second tier who has scored 3 goals in 10 games is a gamble, of course it is, one the big clubs with quality squads can afford to do, you disagree? Are Norwich a big club? How is their star signing Wolf's Winkie doing? They were the club you held up as a shining example of the sort of signings we ought to be making before the start of the season. How are they doing?

They were the club you held up as a shining example of the sort of signings we ought to be making before the start of the season. How are they doing? Badger Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Buying a young player with potential for future seasons, at a sensible price, is a gamble? probably won't be a "sensible price" now though will it ? Already on Juventus books.
Barry Sanchez Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Are Norwich a big club? How is their star signing Wolf's Winkie doing? They were the club you held up as a shining example of the sort of signings we ought to be making before the start of the season. How are they doing? He has not worked out but Hooper has, I held them up as they were spending in my opinion wisely, they have not in the main but that can not be used as a deflector shield for our purchases or used to continue to buy Serie A/B gambles. I see what you did with the name switch there, you are a breeze Wes, an absolute breeze.
Saint Charlie Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 probably won't be a "sensible price" now though will it ? Already on Juventus books. Obviously there will be no price now as he won't be available. Original link was ages ago.
