No. I reckon he's got at least to the half-way point in the season to show a significant change in our fortunes.

How did you come to that conclusion?

If we lose on Saturday. I think we will win but ???????

No.

I think the fans, players and even Cortese are behind him. I also think he can turn things around with great support from the fans.

It's time to switch to a more traditional Saints Premier League season footing and remember we're in a survival battle. Every game is an FA Cup match from hereon in.

My gut feel is that if we lose Adkins is gone, if we draw and play well then he'll get another home game to sort things out. I've got a feeling that Hughes is screwed unless QPR win. I think Hughes' position will work in our favour.

I pray that we win. I think NA can do a job given time on the prem. maybe he needs someone like Gary Neville alongside him. I don't think Mike Phelan gets enough credit at MUFC in fact Neville could slot in well

Well I would like to think that NC, unlike some on here, is clever enough to understand its not a good idea to make a decision on the long term manager of the team based on any single result. Nigel doesnt suddenly become the wrong choice if we lose and by the same token he isnt suddenly the right choice if we win.

If we are going to be relegated this season (which i think is by no means certain), there is nobody I would rather have as our manager to get us out of the championship than Nigel Adkins.

if we get soundly beat, I can see how he can stay on

totally agree, hope and think will be ok, but agree even if we get soundly beat can see him staying for few games yet at least

im not really bothered any more i do like nigel and he plays good attractive football but its not getting results.

we spent as much as west ham but ****ed about buying championshi players and youngsters. apart from ramirez and possibly clyne our signings haven't really improved us. i know everyone likes to blame the signings on cortese but im not sure, i think if we had given redknapp 30m at the start of the season the team would probably look a lot different.

Personally I think if he was going to be fired it would have happened after the WBA game.

As it is, I'm reasonably confident that he'll still be here even if we go down.

I reckon the meeting after the WBA game was his warning and the QPR game will be his judgement day.

If you think cortese will stick with Nigel 'even if we go down' then you nutters deserve each other.

If we had of held on for 3 points Saturday I think that would have given Nigel some breathing space but with us only getting a point QPR is massive if we get beat I think Nigel will be on his way.

I like Nige & think he has done a great job however somebody is at fault for the signings we have made we have spent a lot of money 4th highest in Europe & I don't think we have bought wisely it seemed obvious we needed top quality defenders & keeper we spent 30 million & didnt strengthen where required that is a huge mistake.

Like I have said before, I think he is already a gonner.

It's starting to turn into a bit of a pipe dream for some that if we lose on Saturday we just keep NA becasue we're all behind him and the fans love him and all that.

If we lose this game people should ask themselves where do you draw the line? When is enough, enough? We are going to be relegated. If he loses this then I will go from hoping he turns it around (been saying that for 2 months) to hoping he's sacked because this clearly isn't working.

At this rate it will be March 2013 and people will be saying he will turn it around and such like when we are 12 points adrift at the bottom. Mental.

I think this fact about us spending big is a bit misleading.

We have a side that played in league 1 / championship - it needed more of a quick spend than say Sunderland did to prepare for this season. Look at the Sunderland squad and compare what ours cost to assemble.

Flectcher £14m

Wickham £12m

Johnson £10m

Cattermole £6m

Gardner £6m

Campbell £6m

Sessegnon £6m

Ji £2m

mignolet £2m

Bramble £1m

£65m worth of players and in relegation battle.

Got know what some of mid table squads cost to assemble.

plus "name" players who would have big signing on fees / wages;

Saha - prev £14m player so guess wages big

wes Brown - not cheap

O'Shea - not cheap

just checked...nothing on official site.

Its only a small minority of fans who want him out, appears NC and footballing world think he should stay at the moment

Sunderland should also be doing miles better

Nick. Why do you get hysterical when people suggest Adkins is not quite up to it

What is your reaction going to be if he is sent his marching orders

I've been slyly watching QPR recently and they look like a good team who only need a bit of luck to give someone a hammering. Bit like us really. Just hope it's not us on the receiving end at the weekend. Anyway, I hope people don't think it will be easy, just because they are below us. Just managing my expectations. I think we'll lose 2-1. Adkins will only be under pressure if they slaughter us (I hope)

Look at WBA, squad cost a tiny amount for the premier league and they are 5th. Cuts both ways.

Can we have one of these threads before each match please? It really is great - I look forward to it immensely. I especially like all the inane repetetive drivel that gets appended to each one.

Ha, Hilarious

What the "footballing world" think is irrelevant to NA position, it's NC that matters.

I am convinced he's only still here because NC doesn't know or cant get who he wants in. Hardly a vote of confidence from NC.

Do you think he's happy losing 8 of our first 11 games?

Saying NC is happy for him to stay at the moment is true of course, but I think it's a bit like saying NC decides not to sack him at the moment.

NA is still here either way but the end result remains the same.

Was Nick hysterical at any stage? As far as I could see, he's been his usual measured, sensible self, backing up his position with some reasonable debate.

I would be obliged if you would kindly point out this post where he has been hysterical, as I seem to have missed it.

Yes, he has been hysterical.

Went into a foul mouthed meltdown the other day. Not like him at all

It seems its getting to him that people think that Adkins has been a disappointment since promotion

I am confident NA will go evenually, but all managers go eventually whether it is in weeks or years is the unknown factor, hopefully he can turn it around and it is the latter not the former.

basically the loser Sat gets sacked imo..

depends on what's been done viz a viz replacements. I'd think QPR might go for Harry, don't know who we might have lined up.

With the situation critical at the losing club it's no time for any caretaker manager. Not sure that a loss for either side will result in a sacking just yet. If either were going to b sacked before January 1 then it probably would have happend by now.

I stand corrected. As you say, not like him at all.

We're all under pressure as fans after a less than convincing start, so viewpoints have become more polarised and a bit terse as a result.

3x + 1 = 16

3x = 16 - 1

3x = 15

x = 15/3

x = 5

Hang on - that can't be right.

Half way through the season would mean x = 0.5. That's a factor of 10 difference, so that must mean there's a 10-1 chance that Nigel will be given the boot. Not bad odds, but not enough to say for certain. ;)
