once_bitterne Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 This definitely wouldn't have happened if there was a fan on the board. For choice a pensioner from East Anglia with too much time on his hands.
Ohio Saint Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 The seats next to him are reserved for the invisible man and Wonder Woman's invisible aeroplane. The invisible aeroplane is a huge fan, and attends every home game. Jebus, no wonder I hardly ever look at the main board.

Charlie Wayman Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 no gangway.. Evidence requires a photo from every match taken during the match at 3.15 or whatever time after ko, not a pic when the game is over and other people have left. I sit near there and there's nearly always people seated next to him
Toadhall Saint Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 You are factually wrong OP, Mr Cortese always has people next to him on his LH side whils to his RH side is a gangway!!! Poppies signify the British & Allied Armies blood spilled on the fields of Flanders in Belgium notably at the first battle of Ypres in 1915. Our Italian allies of the First World War were engaged in an equally bloody struggle against the Austrians in the foothills of the Alps in North Eastern Italy. Whilst we share and remember our common agony on 11th November at 11.00 am, the poppy has no symbolic significance to an Italian even one domiciled in the UK. I have no doubt he would have had his own solemn reflections during the two minutes silence at the match. You like others are far too keen to take a swipe at Mr Cortese for whatever narrow and bigoted reason is in your own mind. It would be far wiser for you to keep such thoughts to yourself and above all think before you write. To be honest I never agree with a word you say but on this occasion you're spot on. Saint Benali Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 The seat to his left has a plaque on it which says 'In memory of Markus Liebherr' which is a nice touch I think. Maybe he doesn't want anyone sitting there as a sort of tribute to the big man. I think this is true. Maybe he just wanted to be alone on that day. We all get like that. It only means something if you want it to mean something. Its a shame our fans have to over analyse everything these days.
kpturner Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 I have often asked myself why I think, but I can never think of an answer.
Dark Munster Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 I think he sits on his own as everyone hates him and he hates everyone. I think he didn't wear a poppy as he thinks it's good that all those soldiers died and he wishes more of them dead. I think you've nailed it. And for those who don't believe he wasn't wearing a poppy, here is photographic evidence (non-photoshopped).
david in sweden Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 1..That Cortese chooses to sit on his own, with empty seats each side and behind him? 2.. Why was he the only chairman in the PL, and probably the whoel league this weekend who chose not to wear a poppy? He is certainly eccentric:scared: Suggest ; 1) ...He doesn't want to listen to other people's opinions whilst watching the game...and who would he sit next to anyway ? 2).....He's not British...so why should he understand the significance.? I dare to suggest that there are probably a lot of British people who don't also ......(when you look at others in the street).

This Apart from the bit about the gangway, Charlie has answered the question in the most enlightened way. I don't often agree with Charlie but on this occasion his answer is almost spot on. It is alarming that so many people here in the UK have such narrow minded views about how other nations (our allies and former enemies alike) view the conflicts that we choose to remember, it is refreshing when someone actually posts something that shows some of this understanding and seeks to redress the balance with the bigots. Well done Charlie.

FFS one of them thought Puncheon was a footballer 2) Ah no. Sorry but Poppies are even sold down here and we had a UAE National came to our factory on Sunday in his National Dress who had taken the time to go to the local supermarket and buy one
Deano6 Posted 13 November, 2012 Share Posted 13 November, 2012 Well nobody in the States wears one (British expats who can source one aside), just to balance our Phil's statement.
