Substitutes and half time routine ...

Not a dig at our manager but a general observation...

I noticed on Saturday at half time that all the Saints substitutes were on the pitch kicking balls about and generally chatting to each other - whereas as only 2 of the Swansea lads were on the pitch.

This got me to thinking that the remainder of the Swansea subs were in the changing rooms listening to the team talk and tactics ?

Just wondered what is the best system ?

a) Listen to the gaffers team talk & tactics

b) Kick a ball about

Must admit I favour the first option....

Subs should be listening to every detail discussed at half time. Every piece of information is vital to winning a game.....

The idea of bringing a sub on (unless to replace an injured player) is to change the game somewhat, often tactically. So previous tactics kind of go out of the window; the manager and coaches will have more than enough time to relay to the player coming on what is expected of him once he is introduced.

Would rather they were loosened up and ready to play.

Besides from what you hear there isn't a huge amount of tactical chat that happens at HT and certainly nothing the Manager can't tell the player before he comes on.

.....and probably a good thing they don't get to hear the bo**ocking that the team is getting in the dressing room.

This came from a s****horpe player who said it was every game without exception, but no idea if he still does it downhere for half times;

First five minutes - Total silence and reflection on the first 45 mins

Second five minutes - Players have their say, on the game, what has / hasn't worked well

Thrid five mins - All Nige
