Come on lads, show a bit more imagination we don't want other people's misfits and journeymen we want top class young stars-in-the-making of around 22/23. Sterling for starters although one suspects Puncheon is better at the moment, oh and Walcott and I'm serious he'll be on a free soon.

So you start a post with come on guys be serious... Then suggest Sterling and Walcott ?

Would be a bit silly buying him now, if we really did want him i'd be inclined to wait until the summer to make sure he's had no re occurrence and then give him a full pre-season with us.

Does anyone think bringing brek Shea in on loan from Dallas with their season finishing would be great business? Could do with a winger and he would fit the bill as an interchangeable front four player, with height for far post headers too. Possibly buy him in the summer, but allows us to spend a bit more on a solid centre back.

I'll be ambitious and say....Benedict Tremoulinas

Window Cleaner might be able to offer more of an insight.

Benoit Tremoulinas, from Bordeaux. Good little player but there's such a difference between English football and French football it's really difficult to say whether he'd make the transition quickly enough. He's not very big and isn't great in the tackle or in the air. Probably better going forward than defensively.

If we're really looking at French "lateraux" then I'd hope it would be Serge Aurier from Toulouse, can play either side although he's better on the left. Ivory coast player, young and quick.

Broken in to French national team, so can't be that bad.

I apreciate that you feel you are in the centre of a bunch on lunatics talking crap out their arse, but to hold frimpong up as a good signing........................................................................................... oh dear.

To be fair Frimpong has been held up as a "good signing" in every Saints HCDAJFU thread since about 1926. Same old, same old.

Definately worth a punt with adz out, best player i have seen in MLS - a bit weak mentally tho.

Good player, imagine he will be on enormous wages though

Could save some dosh on the transfer fee and he was pre-qatari era when PSG weren't loaded so he can't be on massive wages. Like I said he's 31 so you would probably only give him a 2 year deal so over the term of contract with a low transfer I think it would be affordable. Kind of quality though that would give us a short term burst, good dribbler, excellent delivery and scores goals.

He was a top player at PSG though, I know he was pre the revolution, but still Id imagine he was a top earner, perhaps looking at 50k per week which to us is big dosh, I cant even see Ramirez being on that much.

Great player and would definately be an exciting signing aswell as an improvement, unless we can convince him to take a pay cut to play regularly ? But TBH if he were to move it would IMO be to a bigger clib with deeper pockets possibly playing in europe, or maybe back to brazil

Rumours are back to Brazil, but we could maybe convince him for a short spell in the premier league, but yeh wages might be too high. Only orginally signed by PSG though for 5.5 million euros. Breaks are 'young and hungry' policy but I think his quality would be worth it. Only has 6 months on his contract as well.

Surely, unless Everton get him, Lescott fits the bill for an experienced Premiership CB, even ahead of Dawson. Citeh seem prepared to let him go and might even pay some of his wages if loaned out until the end of the season. No real idea how much it'd cost to buy him though. I hope we have enquired about him. Kjaer (spelling?) if we get someone in from Europe.

Relegation battle: Southampton and Reading both want Birmingham star Davies

By Football Spy | 14 Dec 2012 22:00

Premier League relegation rivals Southampton and Reading will battle it out to sign Birmingham defender Curtis Davies during the winter window.

Former Aston Villa star Davies, 27, has been on Saints' hit-list since the summer.

Reading boss Brian McDermott also wants the centre-back, who can offer some much-needed top-flight experience to his drop-zone strugglers.

McDermott said: "We want to bring in two or three players who have played in the Premier League before."

Firmly believe Davies would thrive at Saints under Adkins, should this one come to fruition.

Good player who would improve our defence IMO. Ball-playing centre-half too.

Would also be great just to hear big Dave Merrington try and commentate when Davis, Davis and Davies are all playing!

As if he would sell Rickie in January. Lots of Shaw to Arsenal/Chelsea in the papers today, wonder what the chance of him leaving is? His family live near to Chelsea's Cobham training ground.

shaw would be retiring from football if he goes to anyone in the top 4 or so within the next couple of years

Chelsea rejected him as a kid IIRC, so they can sod off. At the end of the day we're not in a position where we have a youngster playing Championship football, and PL clubs want him.

We have a young kid who is a regular in our Premier League first 11, at this stage moving Chelsea would benift no one. He wouldn't play, there's no way he would become a regular there for a couple of years. It would be a backwards move.

If he does leave, and if he carries on as he is - he probably will, then it needs to be when he's fully established himself after a couple of seasons, and where he's in a position to go straight into that Chelsea team. At the moment he'd be killing years of his career.

Agree personally but it would be hard to turn down. Chelsea will lose Cole in the summer and Ive seen nothing much in Bertrand to suggest Shaw won't be superior to him pretty quickly.

Saints seem to be happy to wait til he is 18 in the summer to offer him a new deal but wouldnt suprise me if he didnt sign one.

why would chelsea buy a 17-18 year old to go into the first team at the back...they will spend about £20m for someone from europe..or get baines

no one in the top 6 is going to buy shaw in the next year or so to go straight into their team

why would anyone think this?

Not to go into their first team but he would get some games like AOC did last season. All I'm saying is if those clubs want him its easy for us to say no but a lot harder for him.

If he stays til the summer he will probably leave then unfortunately.

and why would a player substitute regular games, most weeks, to the odd fleeting sub appearance for a couple of years? I wouldn't. It's not like he'd be making the move to play ''PL football'' - he's already playing it, with us.

Again I agree. But look at Sinclair, Rodwell, Smalling etc. All have decided to be a squad player at a big club rather than play PL football every week. When Chelsea and Arsenal both want you its tough to say no.

Of course it would be a silly move at first but foolish to think it wont happen IMO.

Dunno if you can be bothered but this video precisely explains Chelsea buying "Southampton left back"

I like Downing. I've always thought he was a very good club level player. Not as a £20m player or on anywhere near the money he's on at Liverpool, but it's not so long ago he was outstanding at Villa and even played well in one or two England games. He scored a screamer against us on his wrong foot when playing for Boro and that left a real impression on me. Not many players hit the ball like that with their swinger.

He clearly lost his way with his off the field problems causing a loss of form and confidence, but the statistic about him not scoring or getting any assists is slightly misleading. He got to the byline and created tonnes of chances that Suarez spurned time after time. Liverpool were **** and he got all the blame.

We really need left and right midfielders to challenge our current two. He'd be be good choice at the right money if he has sorted his off the field problems out. Put an arm round him and get him up and down that line again and he would be a fine acquisition.
