Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Paul Watts, the club photographer has tweeted about waiting for the subject of a late night photo shoot to arrive. Are we expecting the arrival of a free agent signing or is he starting his own sideline...?
kpturner Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 2 CBs, a LB and possibly a RW. OUT Seaborne De Ridder (sorry Steve!) Dickson Butterfield Reeves (loan) Lee (loan) Puncheon (if we get a decent offer for him - his contract's up in the summer) IN (any of) CBs Gary Caldwell - Great organiser, good leader. Experienced too. Charlie Mulgrew - Very technically capable, can play LB too. Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik - Great athlete, strong and quick. Vegard Forren - Integral part of Solskjaer's Molde team, great all-rounder and still young (24). Dejan Lovren - Unrealistic but if we're going to break the bank then I can't think of anyone better. LBs Martin Olsson - Rampaging, question marks over defensive work though. Cheikh M'Bengue - Uncompromising, great defender but can be a bit Barton-esque with his tackling sometimes. Jonathan Parr - Versatile, lots of potential. Played with Clyne last season and looks a class above the Palace team. Mostly agree - apart from Parr ()

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Damn you optimism. Your presence near me is no longer required.
Dublin Saint Posted 13 November, 2012 Posted 13 November, 2012 Gary Neville This. With a couple of defenders and a strong midfield enforcer. We also seem to need a leader on the pitch.

pimpin4rizeal Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 one i could see us going for is rhys williams from boro. we were being heavily linked with him on twitter b4 he picked up a bad injury. could hdajfu?
lordswoodsaints Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 You can forget anybody with a decent pedigree or reputation, they are just not going to sign for a club that looks doomed to relegation.....would you? Looking at our transfer policy the best you can hope for is a lower league player or some unknown foreigner.
Dangermouth Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 There you go: A defender who a lot of teams are interested in. If you take out the right number of letters from the article, you can spell "Saints are interested". HTH.

Saint Scott Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 CB's, CB's CB's!!! Someone like Granqvist from Sweden. Signed for 2m Euros last year by Genoa! I imagine we paid more for Yoshi! My wish list for CB would be (in no order): - Andreas Granqvist (27 Years old) (£2-4mil?) - Raphael Varane (19 Years old) (Loan from Real Madrid? Maybe a long shot.) - Matija Nastasic (19 Years old) (Loan from Citeh? Looks decent)
SuperMikey Posted 14 November, 2012 Posted 14 November, 2012 You can forget anybody with a decent pedigree or reputation, they are just not going to sign for a club that looks doomed to relegation.....would you? Looking at our transfer policy the best you can hope for is a lower league player or some unknown foreigner. Artur Boruc - International keeper for Poland and 1st choice for Fiorentina last 2 years. Hardly unknown. Maya Yoshida - Regular for Japan, captained them at the Olympics. Hardly unknown. Gaston Ramirez - One of the best young prospects in Europe. Played in Serie A and has made several appearances for Uruguay, World Cup semi-finalists in 2010. Hardly unknown. Paulo Gazzaniga - Probably the closest to an unknown foreigner of our signings, but forged a good reputation last season. Jay Rodriguez - Burnley's top scorer for god knows how many seasons. Future England player. Hardly unknown. Steven Davis - Made over 100 apps in the Prem before captaining Rangers and N.Ireland. Hardly unknown. Nathaniel Clyne - England youth player, scouted by all the top clubs and turned down Man U to sign for us. One of the best young players outside the Prem. Hardly unknown. Seriously, people are freaking out because we didn't sign f*cking Messi.

tajjuk Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 Utter rubbish imo Lol because it made you completely wrong? At the very least Man Utd were interested in him and he signed for us. Those are also direct quotes from him, so if the Newspaper made that up they could be sued. Don't let reality stand in the way of you being right though Artur Boruc - International keeper for Poland and 1st choice for Fiorentina last 2 years. Hardly unknown. Maya Yoshida - Regular for Japan, captained them at the Olympics. Hardly unknown. Gaston Ramirez - One of the best young prospects in Europe. Seriously, people are freaking out because we didn't sign f*cking Messi. This. Players will sign, we'll get a better quality if we are not adrift though. At worst though we will still be able to get loans in, everyone wants to play in the premiership so I'm sure quite a few players would be grateful of the opportunity if it puts them in the shop window. In fact the ideal type of signing would be a good player who's down the pecking order at a big club. Someone like Javi Garcia for example who hasn't played much for City all season, get them in on a short term loan with an a deal to sign them if we stay up.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 It would be interesting to know if we are working hard behind the scenes to identify and bring in the right players in January. I do believe Nigel has intimated that there will be some activity, but who knows - the January window is hardly the best time to find essential re-enforcements. I can see us sticking with Shaw and Fox at LB with a view to signing a CB and a midfielder perhaps. Can't see us signing more than 2 and I can't see us breaking the bank.
student Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 Saints need to be looking at some loans from the big boys this January, plenty of good talents out there that could come in and turn you around whilst you line up full time signings for next summer. United have Brady, Powell and Henriquez that could do a job for you. Frimpong from arsenal could sure you up too. Not sure Youll be able to find a good enough CB on loan but you can fill the other positions you need reinforcement.

LatvianTolix Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 There was a game vs Sweden yesterday, which I have not seen. Question about Safari, their LB and our former Anders Svensson. your thoughts, any good (more coresponding to Safari)
pingwing Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 United have Brady, Powell and Henriquez that could do a job for you. Frimpong from arsenal could sure you up too. Not sure Youll be able to find a good enough CB on loan but you can fill the other positions you need reinforcement. So loaning a bunch of United kids that get no where near the first team is a good way to bolster a team that very much was the measure of United for most of the home game earlier in the year? (for the first 60 mins till Scholes turned up) Madness. Frimpong could be good if he's not crocked but he's only worth it if he's cheap...
student Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 Henriquez is a Chilean national team player and is only in the reserves so he can get used to the english style. Powell is seen as the heir to Scholes and the fans want him to be playing, Brady is seen as a backup to the first team but would be better than most your wingers. There is nothing wrong with getting players on loan either, Wilshere, Sturridge and Cleverley went on loan and now they're england internationals. Especially considering you might go down its better for the club that you get in players on the short term so you dont lose lots of transfer fees or wages incase you get relegated. Defensively theres got to be a good youngster out there that someone will loan out, this time last year Caulker was on loan at swansea and now is an england international. Its not swallowing your pride to bring in some youngsters who could keep you in the league. I support Cheltenham Town and follow United in the league but because im based in southampton now I try and see them whenever I can.

Seriously, people are freaking out because we didn't sign f*cking Messi. Artur Boruc - Only 1st choice as Frey got a serious injury and was then sold to Genoa. Maya Yoshida - The Olympics is effectively an Under 23's competition. Not exactly high calibre. Gaston Ramirez - Agree here. Paulo Gazzaniga - In League 2. Jay Rodriguez - God knows how many seasons. 2. And Charlie Austin has nearly scored as many in the first 4 months of this season as Rodriguez did the whole of last season. 17 v 21. Steven Davis - Not unknown, but not great. Nathaniel Clyne - He didn't turn down United this Summer. He turned them down last year, and funnily enough this season the offer wasn't there.
Saint Garrett Posted 15 November, 2012 Posted 15 November, 2012 Just think it's not 'youngsters' we need though, it's old heads with experience - so bringing in someone who isn't getting a game elsewhere would be better. Also the problem with loans is generally they're not that bothered because as soon as the loan is up, they go back to their parent club rather than having to put up with relegation an everything that comes with it.

Yoshida is Japan's captain, was highly rated and was attracting good reviews for his Olympics performances. Hardly 'unknown foreigner' though. neither is Boruc, was rated as one of the top 5 keepers in the world a few years ago and he was Fiorentina's number one for two years. Frey was sold to Genoa because he couldn;t get his spot back as Boruc was better than him. Jay Rod is was one of the most hihgly rated propects in the Championship, he was trailed by a host of clubs. He was also an England U21 International. Steven Davis was Northern Ireland and Rangers captain and has played for several premiership clubs, you are right he is not 'great'. However there no 'great' players playing in the premier league. He is also hardly unknown. Clyne turned Man Utd in January, he was the best fullback in the championship for several years despite his young age and is an England U21 international. You can criticise our signings for not covering the right areas, but to criticise the quality and calling them 'unknowns' for a newly promoted team is just stupid. It didn't make me wrong. I knew that article existed before I made my original comment. I'm sure United expressed a passing interest but no way did United make a firm offer and he turned them down for us. Well maybe you should take it up with Clyne seeing as you are calling him a liar. Theres your opinion and then there are the facts, I wonder which one is "utter rubbish"? Just think it's not 'youngsters' we need though, it's old heads with experience - so bringing in someone who isn't getting a game elsewhere would be better. Also the problem with loans is generally they're not that bothered because as soon as the loan is up, they go back to their parent club rather than having to put up with relegation an everything that comes with it. I agree not youngsters, or at least not 18/19 year olds, but decent players who aren't getting that many games at the big clubs. Like my example of Javi Garcia at City, several at City that we might be able to get if they want some first team football like Scott Sinclair, Jack Rodwell, Matija Nastasić.

RE: Clyne turning down United, I remembered it from a quote in an Echo interview, but being the shining beacon of sh!t journalism that it is, it was unclear exactly when he turned them down. Regardless, the point I was making was that United wanted to sign him and that we got him eventually.

Regardless, the point I was making was that United wanted to sign him and that we got him eventually. The quotes in the above article from him says he had 'talks' with several clubs including Utd. Whilst 'talks' isn't him ebing offered a contract it would at least indicate he had an opportunity to sign for Man Utd but decided not to take it further as he wanted more first team football.
Avenue Saint Posted 17 November, 2012 Posted 17 November, 2012 Benoit Tremoulinas: Left Back. Good age at 26, fast, good positional sense and solid in tackle. Not on high wages either, playing in French leagues. Get in quickly, stock is soon to grow, just called up for French cap, replacing Clichy.

With Cork Returning, not sure our priority should be a deep sitting midfielder. Agree Biglia looks good but we need a CB and a LB as a priority IMO.

Window Cleaner Posted 19 November, 2012 Posted 19 November, 2012 Anything to do with Radhi? Obviously as it's 2 Tunisians, Abdennor is at Toulouse, Ifa was linked with them last summer. Can't understand exactly why Toulouse are playing Capoue as a central defender and leaving AA on the bench though. Doubt if either of them are premier league material really and then there's the ANC to think about.

Yeah plus Ifa is primarily a right back I believe - although we obviously one have one Prem quality RB at the club in Clyne.

Wade Garrett Posted 1 December, 2012 Posted 1 December, 2012 Either Robinson or Friedel would be a big improvement on what we already have.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 December, 2012 Posted 1 December, 2012 Unless they make an error in one of their first few games, then the nobbers will turn. Robertson out!
Lighthouse Posted 1 December, 2012 Posted 1 December, 2012 I think we will need a couple more attacking players. We're very reliant on our current front 4, behind them there is little depth. Rod and Yukka just aren't there yet.
